Hey! The portos have been in pretty good shape for a couple of years. (Though there was one year -- 09 maybe? -- where they changed companies to disappointing effect.)

My experience with bonnaroo this year is those same physical elements which keep people away serve to make those who do attend a higher quality fan. All of my interactions with people were overwhelmingly positive. The outright passion for live music shone through in all my conversations. I loved it.

With the past 4 years i would say last yr was weak sauce just cuz Bonnaroo X was so nuts for the anniversary, The Phish reunion of 09 brought alot of people. I believe 2010 had the lunar stage which kept the party goin...nd last yr we had no EDM sept for aawful skrillex, Phish again! Nd a lackluster chili peppers Radiohead nd Big Freeda saved the weeknd. That said i have high hopes this year

Lazor and lotus were great but only an hr nd 15 each i believe Gigantics two shows nd umphreys were amazing weaksauce i was refering to headlines moreso RhCP really let me down nd i cant do Phish...i need the lunar stage back in my life, at least the arcade back again. Undercard of last year was best in awilebit unfortunatly tickets sell pending the top tier names. Phish reunion brought a nation of hippys, Em/jayz brought the college crowd, radiohead brought the roo faithful that woulda been there anyway sept we were all extremely excited...
This year was my first year at the farm so I have nothing to compare it to but Roo did not let me down. I don't think Roo will ever have the EDM like other big festi's but I'm ok with that. I will becoming back to Roo for the vibes & the people, the music is a added plus (a BIG added plus)!
As for Roo still being part of the Big 3? I say uhh... DUHHH! IMO Chella is in a class by its self. Although I've never been I have friends that go every year, and they seem to have great lineups every year, the best stages (as far as sound & visuals ), and the weather is always great. Plus you cant beat the SoCal sluts & they have camping. But I don't think you can compare Bonnaroo to Lolla or ACL. Just for the simple fact that you don't have LN, and there is no community aspect at Lolla or ACL. Its like comparing Apples to Oranges. I'm clearly bias towards Bonnaroo but its the 2nd best fest behind Coachella IMO. Why else would I drive 14hrs to camp in the heat, dehydrate myself, & smell like rotten eggs after showering Its what makes Bonnaroo, Bonnaroooooooooooooo
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.
I spilled my heart out and put forth a lot of thought into my post about why Roo is a top 3 festival. And all that everyone got out of it was "Plus you cant beat the SoCal sluts & they have camping."......... My work here is done

I went to both Roo and Coachella last year, and the main difference is that Bonnaroo is a lot tamer, but is a lot more about the community and music. If you are going to a festival solely for the music and people, then Roo is by far the top choice. If you are going just to party then I would say Coachella wins in that regard.
The issue in recent years has been the lack of EDM, safety in the campground, and weather.
IMO, none of these are issues.
- lack of EDM is a personal preference. This complaint changes every year, 'There isn't enough Jam/Rap/Hip-Hop/Indie/Etc on the lineup.'
- For a festival of its size, Safety at roo will always be a concern. But I believe the roo staff does an excellent job with this. And how is safety in the campground an issue unique to recent years?
- Weather. Seriously? If you can't take the heat, stay at home.
I got blasted on here months ago saying an Outkast reunion at Bonnaroo would bring much needed publicity to the festival. I wasn't stating Bonnaroo was struggling. All you have to do is look at the crowds and see it is not.
I believe the reason 2012 was less crowded than 2011 is because of the lineup. Starting around 2010, music festivals starting becoming more and more popular in the southeast. This, combined with Bonnaroo's 'mainstream' heavy lineup in 2010 and 2011 is what I believe caused the festival to be so crowded. When the lineup returned to cater more to the original Bonnaroo crowd in 2012, the first timers in 2010 and '11 lost enough interest to feel the need to return.
Having a big group reunite, like RATM at Coachella in 2007, would cause interests in potential festival-goers to peak again, and crowds would rise. Moreover, Bonnaroo would secure its somewhat loose foothold in the 'Big 3' and possibly increase its credibility to sign multiple big names.
I don't think Bonnaroo will ever sell out in a matter of hours like Coachella is able to do. I think Coachella can do that mainly because of the location close to a large population. AC should decide if they want to start catering to this new crowd of festival-goers or do like 2012 and push the lineup more towards the roots of Bonnaroo (or do both).
