Oh God, not the Rothbury VS Bonnaroo debate. Cause that never gets old.
not at all. way to different of a festival to even begin to compare.
actually maybe i could see a debate between ROTHBURY and Roo, but Rothbury has become Electric Forest which is VERY different then Roo. Did the first Roth in 08 and revisited the grounds this year for the first time as Electric Forest this year.
I haven't been since 09 but the Rothbury forest is basically a bunch of trees with lots of flashy lights and colorful things hanging from the trees. Ya it's cool, I'm sure its great if you are on stuff. I'll take real music over that all day

Roth/eff is my favorite fest and the art (interactive art too) is amazing. Nothing outside of burning man compares really, but I'm not sure why you would bring it up in this thread.
Burning man should be a top fest though. No booked musicians but tons of amazing acts play there each year. Sells out quick and nothing else is like it (except regional burns).

More so just bringing up that if you're talking about eye candy burning man trumps everything. Roth/eff is too small to ever be in the top tier of fests, which I think burning man belongs in although it's not just about music.
Ultra gets the same acts every year. Like, how many times can those people handle seeing Tiesto and David Guetta?
I'd say the Big 5 are Coachella, Lollapalooza, ACL, Bonnaroo, and Outside Lands (that one's a maybe).
Bonnaroo still has consistently one of the best lineups (just look at last year) and still gets some of the rare and best acts (first to have Stevie, Metallica & Phish, only one to have Bruce).
Plus it easily has the best overall experience other than Coachella because of camping. City festivals are fun, but don't provide that same awesomeness.

A huge reason bonnaroo seemed dramatically less crowded in the camping areas was because of the new system of parking cars in the pre sprayed lines. People got a lot less space this year than past years, where cars were all over the place.

i think with Coachella, and ACL both doing multiple weekends, and Lolla getting bigger every year, Roo is out of the big 3. It's easily the best big fest I've done, Having said that, at times it seems like they get a bit lazy with choices of bands. I mean, does Girl Talk need to play every time an album is out. and is Widespread Panic really enough of a draw to have played over 5 times?

what??
I can confirm that he is indeed correct on the new system of actually laying out the parking grids this year, but I can't confirm if that led to more room. We never used to do this, because it's a ton of work on top of roping off each section. Plus, the grass grows pretty fast down there so you can't spray lines too early.
Also, we sometimes did this for RVs before, but this year we literally layed out EVERYTHING.
The lines were drawn at to the same dimensions (I believe, I was mostly involved in toll booth this year) as you were supposed to have in previous years, so I can't see it making that much of a difference.
I said it before, but the only empty spaces I really saw in the camping were near specialized camping areas, like the already-pitched tents and the group camping. That large group camping area was a freakin' ghost town.
