I think you guys are over reacting a little. Kanye is a great get, but then the lineup drops off to bands that play everything all the time and club level bands. I mean, they're great bands, but the lineup is totally apple-bottomed.

You can't just let people be happy/excited about something?
I know for myself and probably Flanzo this is huge news because NY/NYC doesn't usually get great festivals so this lineup being in my backdoor as opposed to flying out of state is awesome.

Some of us are likely not going to be attending multiple festivals or have time/money for multiple big shows (I am basically an indentured servant for 2013). This gives people like that the chance to see multiple great bands in a short time period.
I mean, I might not even get to go to Roo this year, so the fact that this lineup is strong is enough to get me excited.

And the conflicts are gonna be stupid.
Whats the curfew for the fesitval?
So the lineup isnt as awesome as we make it out to be or the lineup is so good there will be so many conflicts?

Exactly what I like about it.
I hate Kanye, but really really like almost every other band on that lineup.
So what if they are bands that tour clubs all the time? Nice to see them all in one place!
I feel like it's a pretty comprehensive collection of this year's "festival" bands. You know, the ones that appear on LOTS of lineups, inbetween the bigger "gets?" Few to no exclusives or rarities, I think this is a lineup composed almost entirely of Who's Playing Festivals This Summer.
Perfectly said, but I am a-ok with that. It'll be a GREAT few days and will help with conflicts the following weekend.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Yep. The best word for this lineup is "solid." I feel like it's a pretty comprehensive collection of this year's "festival" bands. I just appreciate it for being a good lineup. I've never been one to weigh exclusive shows that heavily. Keep in mind this was essentially a small two-day festival that is trying to make itself into one of the big boys. This was a great first step, IMO.
I'm a little bummed about the conflicts too.. I really liked how in the past few years their weren't any conflicts at all.. Really made this fest stand out to me... But did you look at that lineup? Randalls Island aint that big either, if you really want to you can catch everything you intend on seeing.

Yeah, I mean Electric Zoo has 4 stages (3 tents and the main stage). Gov's Ball only used 2 previously. I never had an issue bouncing from tent to tent at E-Zoo, and I can't imagine I will at this, either.
Will you miss a couple acts you really wanted to see? Sure, but that's not the end of the world, either.
Who took a sh*t on your waffles this morning, champ?
Conflicts? Yeah, let's cancel any festival that has conflicts...........
The "curfew" is 11pm, I believe. Any other questions you little ray of sunshine, you?
Simmer down. All I said was the conflicts were gonna suck. I didn't say the festival should be cancelled. I think the lineup is great. I should have edited "And" out of my post.
I'm hoping this is a good indicator of the Bonnaroo undercard seeing as this is the week before. That whole red section is glorious.
That's why I was SO bummed when I thought Hob's post was accurate about the days. "What?! All the best are on Saturday and I'll miss it?!?!"
So I checked the website to find info about single day tickets and saw this:
Single day tickets may or may not become available at a future date. To ensure you are able to get into the festival, we advise that you purchase a 3-day ticket now!
So I guess I'll just get my full ticket and just not go Saturday...

I don't think anyone was saying this is the best festival lineup this summer or that it puts it in competition with other big ones. But for a small festival in NYC this is a pretty awesome lineup IMO.

Yeah, let's keep in mind that the headliners last year were Beck & Passion Pit and the pre-headliners were Modest Mouse and Duck Sauce.
They now went to Kanye/KOL/Mystery Band with a really solid Tier 2.
Personally, my excitement is about where this festival is going in the future more than what it will be this year. Yes, I'm pumped for the lineup, but the fact they're not nickel and dime-ing while trying to make it into the next level of music festival is encouraging.
Oh, I have zero problems with this lineup. I just don't get why people are losing their minds. It's a nice fest, full of bands that we'll all likely be sick of by the end of festival announcement season. I might try and make it, and if they end up doing single day tickets then I'll definitely do at least one day.
The big reason I'm excited is that the Northeast rarely gets a festival THIS solid. Mountain Jam and GOTV are both Jam oriented, and Camp Bisco is almost all oontz. I'm not going to include Newport or Solid Sound because those are completely different animals.
It'll just be nice to not drive for 17hrs for once to see a quality lineup with many different genres represented.

I'm freaking out because its Death From Above 1979 first show announced this year and it's a week before Roo. They played every other big fest except Roo last go around so maybe this is kind of exclusive. Also loaded undercard means good things for every other fest this year.
NYC hasn't had a fest like this since All Points West packed it in... And if you ask me GBall is run better then APW ever was.. Really glad to see their continued expansion.. Hard to believe this is the same scarcely attended fest with Pretty Lights, Girl Talk, and Big Boi just two years ago

I really wish I had the money and vacation time to go to this. That red section, for me, is absolutely stacked with a bunch of great acts! I hope some of them are headed 'roo's way.
Can this just be the Bonnaroo lineup? You can add in Sir Paul and Bjork and get rid of Kanye and KoL. Its a fantastic lineup for my tastes: Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Kendrick Lamar, the xx, Beach House, and on and on and on.. I personally think its a great sign that these bands are performing the week before Bonnaroo because I think it gives us a shot at getting a lot of them

I still call it All Points Wet. I never thought Governers Ball would get this much traction, but clearly they are seeing that a lot of metro area people would like to attend a close festival too.
