It makes the most sense... Strokes won't at Roo (they were just there two years ago), so Gball can go ahead and say they booked Strokes in their only major festival appearance in their hometown.. I kind of get the feeling the same will be said about Kanye and KoL as well (not making any other fest appearances this year that is).
I'd love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and would rather get them. And granted they are from NY too. But they are booked for Coachella so wouldn't exactly be considered a "get."
Hope I'm wrong.

Are they that wrapped up in "gets" or do they just want to put on a great festival? YYY resonate WAY more with the demographic GB is geared towards, I would think (tween-to-late-20's music elitists in NYC), but the Strokes would get them a lot more casual fans, I think.

Who knows. Hoping for YYYs, or an EDM headliner (Gball caters to EDM, Hip Hop, and alternative.. already got two out of the three in headliner spots so why not complete the trifecta? But with who?!), or the long shooooot of Atoms for Peace (very much unlikely).
You left out C) fans who don't get to go to any festivals this year, live in NYC, and want to see a lot of bands that aren't coming to the city otherwise.

This is not a "gets" type of festival. It's probably going to wind up the most generic festival lineup of the summer. There isn't an act on here that you can't catch pretty much anywhere. It's just an extremely solid top to bottom, ideal for people who either a) go to lots of festivals and want to use this to eliminate conflicts elsewhere, or b) are more casual music fans.
Remember, they did this "mystery headliner" thing last year and it was...Kid Cudi. I think YYY are a very solid guess that fits this lineup to a T.
Last year they got Beck in his only major festival appearance.. They absolutely are a "gets" festival.
Well with the new album announcement I think Strokes are just as if not more likely then Yeah Yeah Yeahs or Mumford... More so because they are from the city and like I said probably won't be at any other major festivals.
By the way I don't expect to see Kanye or KoL on any other major fests this summer either... On this coast anyway.
One of the guys I met who works for Founders Entertainment messaged me this morning to let me know that Governors Ball started a message board... I'd like it not to suck so it would be awesome if some inforooers would join up
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
Gball just said on facebook that the 3rd headliner is going to be announced "Soon...like, real soon.."
I still think Strokes and Yeah Yeah Yeahs are the two most likely.. But just throwing it out there maybe Beyonce? She just announced a Barclays date maybe they didnt wanna announce her for this till that sells out? Just thinking out loud.
Mumford is announcing dates tomorrow. That fits "soon."
I don't think that's related. Mumford is announcing 5 Stopover dates tomorrow night, not a full tour. I don't see Governor's Ball and them having to coordinate that.

I don't know....Sasquatch announces tonight, Hangout probably drops tomorrow, and Governor's is promising an addition shortly. I'm betting they show up on 2/3 of those lineups. It kind of makes sense that they would announce their Gentleman of the Road stops in conjunction with a run of festival dates.

We are thrilled to announce the addition of Guns N’ Roses as the 3rd headliner of Gov Ball 2013! The Rock N’ Roll Hall of Famers will perform what is sure to be a set filled with many of their classic hits. #yolo
^^ That is their actual announcement. They really said "#yolo" at the end of that announcement. Haha!
Would love to see GNR even though it's a nostalgia act now.
I think it's awesome! My early drunken years has a soundtrack of 80s hair bands because I was always getting drunk with my sister and her friends and they, obviously, wore bandanas and loved 80s hair bands.

$70 to see them? Dude, that Tabernacle show was a fuckking HUNDO to get in at GA. It might have been $120! I remember thinking "not a chance!"
BONZAI- I totally know what you mean. I grew up on GNR! I got Appetite for Destruction on cassette for my bday from my Dad in '89! My mom was so pissed.
I'm firmly in the "no way would I pay an outrageous sum of mony to see Fat Axl and his band of idiots play GNF songs" camp, but if they were part of a festival bill I'd totally rock out to it. My hope is that they sell single day tickets, and that Kings of Leon headline Friday. That way, I could go Saturday/Sunday and see Mssr. West and GNR and everything else. Hell, I might just buy a three day pass and if I have to miss a day, it happens.
When I saw them 5-6 years ago, they were pretty decent. They had three guys in the band to take the place of Slash, but they made up for it with pyrotechnics.
