They won't start announcing the lineup for a few more weeks, but they have a Holiday Sale right now where 3-day passes are only $95 ($106 w/ fees). Jump on that shiz if you want to go.
This year's Pitchfork Music Festival will take place July 19-21 in Chicago's Union Park. Today, we're excited to confirm that this year's headliners will be R. Kelly, Björk, and Belle and Sebastian. The full lineup, which will consist of over 40 artists, will be announced in the coming weeks.
Well, I've never been to Pitchfork. Its something that I've always wanted to do, but tickets sell out very quickly, and I've never remembered. I have however been to union park for North Coast, and thought it was a great venue. Small and easy to to maneuver, but the stages were set up in a way that really eliminated sound bleed from stages with simultaneous acts. I would imagine that Pitchfork is set up very similar. I answered like that because Lolla is a way bigger beast than Pitchfork, and thought of it as an odd comparison.

I've heard they use the same set up for Pitchfork. I hear Pitchfork gets very crowded though. Plus it's in the middle of no where.
Comparing Lolla and Pitchfork is like comparing apples and hamburgers.
Didn't you go last year glenn? What's it like compared to Lolla?
The park itself isn't great or anything, but the setup is pretty nice. Just two similar sized stages facing each other (sort of, I guess they're kind of angled but if you stand in the middle of the field you can see both fine) that alternate acts, plus a smaller stage that's not even a five minute walk away. They have a great record sale and a bunch of other vendors, some sweet poster vendors, etc. The best part is you can walk up five minutes before any act that's not a headliner or "pre-headliner" and get a really good spot without being a d*ck. The crowd skews a little bit younger, but felt like a geriatric community compared to this year's Lolla crowd. Even without the Holiday Sale, $120 is a pretty great deal provided the lineup doesn't suck.

Pitchfork is super small. It's actually a really manageable festival, although it does get crowded. But the year I went at least tere were no more than two bands on at time so you could see a lot without much stress. Pavement was awesome.
Ugh, 2010 right? I had plans to go that year but they fell through for whatever reason. Crazy to think a fest that had LCD Soundsystem, Modest Mouse and Pavement headline one year regressed to Feist, Godspeed and Vampire Weekend (who I all like to varying degrees) just two years later.

I bet it does get crowded considering how fast it sells out. Although it's not downtown and in the middle of all the action, it is right off the green line. Most people will have to make a transfer, but still easy access.
Hey guys, remember that summer all the kids were into Pavement?
I never really understood why that was such a big deal. I mean sure, the records were superb. Hard to ever touch those. Live though, woah, talk about boring. Codeine blew them outta the water.
So should I be thinking about Grizzly Bear as a headliner or are they too small?
I think this is the first thread I've ever created. Is it possible to bar people from posting in it?
The true spirit of a Pitchfork reader/poster.
Not to rehash the whole stupid argument from months ago but I feel like I at least have a legitimate reason to not be the biggest fan of caddyshaq.
But to respond to his point sincerely, the crowd is fine. The whole "Arms folded too cool for school" thing is just as unfair as "Everyone at Coachella is just there to be seen!" or "Everyone at Bonnaroo is a f*cked up wook only there to sell illicit drugs and rummage through your tent," etc. Even if all the stereotypes were true, I'd rather have boring/disinterested people because drunk obnoxious people shoving past you during shows are the worst.
And Grizzly Bear seems like the most obvious name for headliner at this point, but I thought the same about M83 last year before Lolla snatched 'em up.
