So, I probably can't afford a plane ticket...nor do I have a car. But I can pop an addy and drive/chauffeur for 10 hours overnight if anyone wants to road trip. Bonz, you're from around NYC aren't you?
A road trip would depend on how much cheaper the road trip would be vs. a plane ticket <cue research when sober> and taking time and such into consideration. Certainly a possibility. I'm 2 hours north of NYC. Where do you live?
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

Cost sounds decent, but I do NOT work well on low sleep. I would have to take some extra time off. Which is a possibility, but I cannot drive alone from midnight- 5 am. My body hates those hours. We'll talk outside of this thread to see if it's a possibility

My car thankfully gets anywhere from 30-40 which allows me to travel a lot for very little. I hope that thing doesn't blow up on me this year haha. I'm in Minneapolis and have never done Pitchfork so there's a fairly good possibility I'll be there. I most likely won't know until summer though. I've had tickets to it before but unfortunately it ended up not working for me to go. Hopefully this year pans out different. If it does I'll see y'all there!
Gossip Wolf rumors round 1: TICKETS TO THIS year's Pitchfork Music Festival went on sale earlier than usual—in fact, you could buy discounted three-day passes as of 12/21. The three-day event will be held the weekend of Fri 7/19 in Union Park, and though the lineup hasn't been announced, this Wolf has a few guesses about who might play: noise-rap provocateurs Death Grips, British R&B singer Jessie Ware, Florida postpunks Merchandise, foodie MC Action Bronson, Toronto grunge trio Metz, downer R&B group the XX, San Francisco metal band Deafheaven, and local singer-songwriter Angel Olsen.

Yeah, this was the best that I could find with four girls.
I was half thinking that maybe I should wait for the lineup to make more solid plans... I'm more of a hippie than a hipster, and I am kind of afraid that the lineup won't do that much for me... (but I might say screw it and go anyway)

All of those make a lot of sense. They love emerging hometown acts, so Olsen is a good bet. They always go after bands that blew up in the past year, so Ware, Merchandise, Metz, and Bronson fit the mold. Especially Bronson, they seem to land every hip hop act they push on the website. And at this point I'd be fucking shocked if Death Grips doesn't play.

Pallbearer would be perfect for the token metal slot (or two). That was the only metal album in their Top 50 of '12, right? I'd be very happy with that. You should have seen them at Hopscotch.

Just an FYI, but this was Gossip Wolf last year:
This Wolf got wind of two acts scheduled to play this year's Pitchfork Music Festival—Cloud Nothings and local XL signee Willis Earl Beal. Other acts Gossip Wolf expects to see onstage at Union Park: Bon Iver (front man Justin Vernon cocurated Pitchfork's inaugural Paris festival in October), Best Coast, electro it-girl Grimes, the reunited Chavez, and noncontroversial Odd Future crooner Frank Ocean. Speculation is rife about whether the freshly re-formed At the Drive-In will appear, but industry birdies tell this Wolf that Lolla is more likely since that fest has more cash to throw around.
They only hit on 2/5 of their actual guesses, so I'd take what they said this year with a grain of salt since they didn't say they had any sources or anything.

That's a good point about Gossip Wolf, but he did successfully call TVOTR, Superchunk, Dismemberment Plan, Shabazz Palaces, Odd Future, and Gang Gang Dance in 2011.
I agree, gron. They do a lot of educated guesses. It the same thing that anyone can figure out but because it's in the Chicago Reader, it's rumored. It still gets me excited.
The XX are huge but still only playing 1k/1.5k capacity venues near me. I kinda agree with Pale Horse. I'd love to see them there, just not in a HL role.

Was there any overlap between Tomorrow Never Knows and Pitchfork last year? A lot of the artists you're discussing are TNK artists this year.
And I dont know if this will influence anything, but Merchandise couldnt even sell out Schubas last week. Maybe they did in the end, but they offered a $5 discount on tickets the day before. So they were only $10.
EDIT: I just glanced through the lineups and I think Chromatics was the only overlap.

Still such a new band. If they played it would be early, early. Like first band or two on the second stage, imo.

You could totally be right. I'm just going off how big Schuba's is. I mean what it has a capacity of 300 people in the venue part? It looks like on their website the whole place holds 400.

They would definitely be an early band, probably on the 3rd stage. I don't think Pitchfork cares about draw when it comes to the bottom of the undercard. They've had Julianna Barwick and CAVE in early slots, and they definitely don't pull 300+ people to club shows.
"The lineup has yet to be revealed, but Pitchfork promises to begin revealing the roster later this month. Rap-rock agitators Death Grips are a shoo-in, and there are pretty good odds that U.K. breakouts AlunaGeorge and Jessie Ware will be there. I'm gonna go ahead and take a wild guess that the Breeders will headline, seeing as they're gearing up to celebrate a forthcoming deluxe reissue of their 1993 benchmark, Last Splash, which they'll perform in full at a Deerhunter-curated installment of All Tomorrow's Parties one month prior to the PMF"
I was just getting ready to say this before I got to the end of your post. No way they are known well enough with the current Pitchfork demographic that they'd headline. My two best guesses are still Grizzly Bear and My Bloody Valentine. Still trying to come up with names big enough that are obvious but I can't really think of too many.
I can see them there but they were never that big. Even the ATP show they are playing second fiddle to Deerhunter. MVB makes so much more sense but I'll be honest. You guys have yet to witness a hammered GL singing along to "Do You Love Me Now?". Seriously, if that were to happen, that's worth ticket price alone.
It just makes me long for the "Don't Look Back" ATP series at P4K. I can't look at 2007 without wanting to toss my computer through a window.

Honestly, I think The xx could be a headliner. No Chicago date in the latest announcement, so either P4K or Lolla grabbed them. And they're easily as big as Feist or Animal Collective, right? They definitely draw better than GY!BE. All 3 of those have headlined. It's also possible Cut Copy returns in a headlining spot. They probably drew the biggest crowd in '11, headliners included.

Personally I don't think The xx are that close to where Animal Collective was in 2011, but the Coachella poster could give us a good indication as to whether I'm right or not. AnCo preheadlined Coachella the year they headlined Pitchfork, so we'll see where The xx is on there this year.
