Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Yeah I'm bowing out of this. It's a good idea, and not nearly as serious as it's been made out to be. I would greatly enjoy the updated feature and would personally use it for innocent reasons, as I have faith many others will do as well.
I don't really feel discussing unintended consequences is that contentious, also if it is implemented this discussion will be good for coming up with a code of conduct as well so maybe we can avoid these issues before they come up.
Code of conduct? Jesus why is this becoming harder than a Roo Clue?
Code of conduct: don't create groups solely to bad mouth another member, no sharing private thread talk on public threads, don't cry if you're not allowed into a thread.
We are adults on a music message board, stop turning it into something more than that. And the fact that you've been gone for months and now decide we must heed your advice is obnoxious. When I came back from a layoff I just shut up and wrote a drunken post about Levon Helm dying and about how i missed this board. You aren't back 24 hours before giving me even more conviction about making these private threads happen. If I can have a discussion without you antagonizing people in it than thats a huge Pro for me.

Actually I came back to help a friend of my childrens who has had a rough time of it, not just to give out my opinion on this matter, thanks for playing though.

So 1 mention out of your 60 something posts, in less then 24 hours, is the reason you came back? Alright, sounds legit to me.
I'm glad your back and all but you have to realize how silly that sounds.

I'll never rag on someone for trying to do some good, but sorry if the fact that you've posted 25 times in this thread and 8 times in that one lead to think it wasn't your primary focus for being here.
I've read through this whole thing while at the Doctors office and on the way home.
I really hate to see all the hurt feelings that are due to this thread. I'm discussing with the other mods about locking this thread for awhile. We are looking at a really good solution for this whole thing, that will make everyone happy. And it could be coming soon. But we need to Beta test it.
Can you guys all calm the quack down and give us some time to take it out for a test drive?

Guys...this thread was doing so well for a while. Please let's try to get it back to the civil discussion as opposed to just back and forth bickering. The back and forth helps nobody and distracts from the topic.

Really? You actually think you know me well enough to know what my motives were? We have never even met dude, and honestly if you think I just came back here to cause trouble put me on ignore, and I can certainly do the same for you.
I was going to remain silent in this thread for two reasons. 1/I don't have anything to say that hasn't already been said and 2/I don't think I've been around long enough to have earned a right to comment on what is clearly a very touchy topic and seems to cut to the heart of the community. However, my name was brought into this (thanks for the compliment, Fuzzy) so I thought I should respond.
I lurked here for months to get info before my first Bonnaroo then I sort of forgot about it, came back watched for a long time and started to fall in love with two things: 1/the real sense of community and 2/the music knowledge and discussion I could not find elsewhere.
What does this mean for the topic at hand? Well I understand both sides and will say that if I were invited to a private thread that involved deep music discussion, I would accept and participate. However, I would not reduce my participation in any public threads here. I would just enjoy both. I don't know what that says about me but I'm just being honest.
I really didn't start posting much until this past year. What brought me out of lurk mode was when I realized the depth of musical knowledge that can be found on this board. It would be extremely liberating to discuss music on a deeper level with some of the posters in a private forum.
Regarding the Artist Direct Confirmation thread...Recently, I received an email from a band's agent implying they would be playing at Bonnaroo. They also stated in the email that somebody recently posted their reply on the Coachella board for the "whole world to see" and were clearly annoyed and reluctant to give me the information. I wanted to share the good news with the board about my finding, but was uncomfortable with posting the evidence in public. What I came up with, was to post it for a short period, with hopes that some credible inforooers would see it and vouch for it, and then delete it. Of course somebody quoted me before I deleted (although the poster did delete it, too). It would have been nice to post the evidence in a private forum. And I know hindsight is 20/20, but if it was posted in a private forum, their could have been some discussion about how we need to stop hasseling the agents before we cross the line.
I'm not sure if private forum really would be quite the Utopia many hope it be. Look at the Which Stage. It is comprised mainly of top/regular posters and has minimal trolling, but doesn't really get a lot of traffic. However, I think the option should still be available. Perhaps, it would fair to have a vote amongst posters above a certain post count to decide whether there should be private forums.
I don't really think high post count is the same as wealth. I also don't think it is a good a idea for someone who has only been around a week with 15 posts decide on a new direction for the board.

Yeah I was just joking around. Don't believe it's the same either. I don't think it's going to a vote though.

There are good reasons for both sides of this. I don't really see the relevance of wanting to create private threads to discuss certain artist or shows or whatever when the Which Stage and Other Tent sub-forums exists and are, typically, only frequented by regular posters with minimal trolling. But at the same time I definitely understand how other types of threads (networking, personal healing, etc) deserve to be private.
I don't have a solution, but I trust our mods to come up with something fair that will suffice.
