I thought that might be the case. I never really go to that board, but why come here where you're welcome and suggest we be jerks and pick who we think is worthy enough to discuss the potential lineup. The group thing does sound like it has potential to be a good thing.
Level of irony that the main headliner thread has been mostly neglected today because of this thread (and the direct confirmations thread): 7 out of 10.
As someone else said, there's IRC chat for any core groups of people who want to talk about whatever without awful posters like badpunz and others.
I think having a totally private exclusive section of this site is going to stunt the overall conversation on some level. I do, However, think there should be a troll free area. Here is an idea: open a section for veteran posters. Say, minimum 500 posts. Now, if some awful troll starts posting, some of the posters can complain and the mods can lock said troll out regardless of post count.
I also think anyone should be able to READ what is written, but keep it as troll free as possible with more hard handed stricter moderation.
I am totally against an elite/exclusionary area mostly because of the possible negative effects it could have. Ripple effects.

Inforoo being a public community is part of what makes it special. I feel that if many of the current posters we all enjoy input from where excluded when they first joined they would not have stuck around and be with us today. Karosko made the point earlier that it is not hard to scroll past something and ignore it or totally ignore a certain user. Take someone like Tom, who has not been around long and I consider to be a highly contributing poster. Would he still be here if he was stuck in a thread where he was not privy to the same conversation as members who had 500 plus posts.

I do wonder if I would ever post in the public TML if there were a private one that only contained everyone I like. I like Flanz's previously mentioned living room vs. bar metaphor, but I'm not sure it would hold up practically.
On the other hand though, I have already (mostly) avoided posting in the Headliner speculation thread since mid-December because it is such a headache. Having a private, coherent thread would encourage me (and I'm sure others) engage in discussions more regularly.
Take someone like Tom, who has not been around long and I consider to be a highly contributing poster. Would he still be here if he was stuck in a thread where he was not privy to the same conversation as members who had 500 plus posts.
This isn't a terrible point. What does encourage someone to become a regular poster here? Is it their inherent love of all things Bonnaroo, or is it the strong sense of community/humor/interest/etc. that we all share with each other?
