I was over there a few weeks ago and totally agree re: the smallish-looking size. Not to mention zero shade/trees. The lower area where the 2 smaller stages will be is NOT big.

According to this article, 20K/day:

Wow. If there are 20K fans there, it could be packed. And when I drove by around 6 pm that smaller area was all shade because of the buildings, so people might flock there in the afternoon for relief. The sun will set somewhat behind the two main stages, so that could make viewing during late afternoon rough with the sun beating down. (Or make for some cool sunset pics.)
The good thing with an in-town fest like this is a lot of locals with 3-day passes will pick and choose their times and days they attend, so that 20K could be less at times.
The move is primarily based on the fact that I wanted to grow, but not become a 50,000- to 60,000-people-per-day festival overnight. The Old Fourth Ward Park was a great place to do it [last year]. It could just only hold up to 9,000 [people] a day, and now I'm going to Atlantic Station, where you're looking at 15,000 to 20,000 a day, and that was a natural progression. And I still want to always be in Atlanta. I don't want to expand outside of 285. And it's a fairly viable, workable space. Everyone knows where it is and how to get to it. Plus, there's a 5,000-space parking lot, it's right off the highway, there's easy access, so some of those elements [factored in] as well.
Does the move present any challenges to your stated goal of making Shaky Knees an intimate experience?
No, and I would encourage people to go the website and look at the map, because it's almost more intimate than last year. I've set up the festival, from a physical standpoint, very old-school. There's basically two main stages that literally sit next to each other, where they go back and forth, and just around the corner is the same setup: two stages that go back and forth. You don't have to walk three or four football fields away to get to the next band. If you want to, you can sit in front of one stage the whole day.
I told Mayo, but I guess I'll tell everyone else that I've had to bail on going. It is with great regret most certainly. I was looking forward to the kick-@ss lineup but more importantly was looking forward to getting to know you crazy kooks on a more personal basis. But it'll have to wait. A year of unemployment and having to move have taken it's toll and I just couldn't, in good conscious, spend the money needed to get down there and back. It'll have to wait. Lock'n looks like the next major festival I'll be heading to, other than Roots Picnic and XPoNential(local), so maybe I'll see some of you there.

I have 2 tickets for the Deer Tick late night show that I am not using. PM me if you are interested. We can figure out a place to meet at the fest on Friday.

UGH I wonder if I should even bring a blanket to sit on? Are there any grassy areas? I can't be standing the whole damn time, I'm too old for that shit!!

They're all about that same size.
I stopped by yesterday to pick up my media pass and snapped a few pictures they're on our instagram YouOughtToHearThis I took another panoramic one but didn't post it there and it's not letting me post it on mobile.
It's a lot of asphalt. I think itll be good but all I can think about is how I roasted at the one asphalt lot at Lolla two years ago.
The stages are paired up but won't have simultaneous acts going on
Weather.com says a high of 85 on Friday. Then a high of 75 and 80 on Saturday and Sunday respectively with chance of thunderstorms around 40%. So hopefully we won't be doing too much roasting.
I don't know what time the girls and I will get there tomorrow. I hope I can find y'all. Look for the 2 beautiful redheads and the old woman lol. Im trying to talk Maggie into wearing her graduation cap

I'm worried about this too. Can I bring a chair or a blanket? Of course asphalt is going to be mighty hot under a blanket

The FAQ says you cannot bring chairs but nothing about blankets.

Haven't looked at the FAQ, the schedule, the complete lineup or much of anything. I know where it is and that's pretty much it. I don't think I've ever been less prepared for an event...
I got too much going on this weekend to make it to the fest. The only thing I can maybe work out is the Spoon late night. I hope its awesome for y'all.
the National and Foals were the highlights of my Friday. By the end of the evening, though, my feet and back were killing me from being on asphalt all evening. Granted, I'm a bit older than a lot of peeps in here, but stay fairly active - I'm just not really sure what kind of shoe is up to that challenge. I'm just going to have to pace myself and go a few hours today and tomorrow. There is absolutely nowhere to sit. The Blanket that I brought was useless on the wet asphalt.
Also, the food truck lines were REALLY long. the fare looked good, but we didn't want to wait in line that long and miss anything. Honestly, if I drive in again today, I may put a couple of drinks and a sandwich or two in a cooler in my car, and just go back to the parking deck. Certainly seems doable since the line to get in wasn't long at all.
Mayo messaged me this morning and said that her group was cancelling going. They probably didn't think to post on Inforoo and I didn't either. I'm sorry. I'm not sure who else was to be going outside of Inforoosters. We have a private FB group so if you will message me, I'll try to get you added.
I plan to be there later this afternoon and hope to be able to meet with everyone.
