Megabus goes from Columbus to Atlanta. Could save you a good bit on travel cost. They're not booking into May yet though.
I just checked this for the furthest away date I could (the last weekend in March) and if the prices stay the same I could do a round trip to Atlanta for $20.... That's less than a tank of gas..
SilentEyedStorm, if it stays around this price I'm going to have to do this..

Oh, I meant the Megabus price. But knowing the tickets do go up in price a little is probably helpful for her too. lol.
Wait, if the area is nice how is the Red Roof Inn considered so shitty? I wasn't concerned about safety stuff until I read all of this... Should I be nervous? Because you guys are making me feel like I should be nervous.
The way you're making it sound is like every hotel within walking distance is going to be sketchy..
sorry no need to be nervous I actually live in the old fourth ward and trust me its a really cool up and coming neighborhood with good restaurants and bars. There are still pockets in the area that can be rough, you will be fine especially with the amount of ppl in the area for SK. Just be smart and dont be walking around boulevard or parkway drunk by yourself at 2am and you should have zero problems.
I had to drive to the airport this a.m., so I did some recon on the way back. So, I think ya'll will be fine, as far as safety walking to and from, at the Red Roof. It's super close, and there will be enough people....It won't be a terrible walk to a cool area of Ponce and North Ave, but I wouldn't want my daughter doing it....Personally, I wouldn't stay there. I can't imagine coming to Atlanta and that be the place you would choose. There is some positive revitalization going on around there, but the festival site and the Red Roof are in a bad pocket. And do not stay at the Savannah Suites. That place and area is straight sketch.
My Rec would be the Georgian Terrace or somewhere north of there on Peachtree or W.Peachtree...or go east towards the Highlands. In the immediate vacinity of the Red Roof, there is fast food and bums.
Also, the park looked really small to me...tennis and basketball courts...I'm not sure how they're going to make it work, but I'll assume they have it figured out...maybe some streets are going to be closed off....I'm sure it's a lot cheaper than Centennial, but...you'll see.
...not trying to be a downer, I just hate for people to come to the ATL and this little area be their impression.

Dang, I just checked the route from Christiansburg to Atlanta and it was $65.
I also didn't realize that I was less than 6 hours away from Atlanta. If I could find somebody to make the trip with then I may do this. Depends on where my finances are at.

This is kind what I was trying to say a few pages back but I kept wording it wrong. I completely forgot about the tennis and basketball courts. Now I'm really interested in what they do for setup. Also, it'll be a logistical nightmare for the city to close some roads around there off.

Basically....if you're coming in from out of town...and want to be reasonably close to the festival...don't stay past North Avenue and Peachtree unless it's on the other side of the Interstate like in Downtown or Midtown. If you search hotels in Atlanta, you're fine at anything "downtown" on Courtland or Peachtree or Peachtree Center (Hilton, Marriott, Hyatt, Hyatt Place, Westin, Best Western at the Peachtrees, Twelve, Aloft, W, Sheraton, Crown, Doubletree, Anything by Centennial Park/CNN etc) but DO NOT STAY AT SAVANNAH SUITES (I don't know how they are ranked so high on hotels.com. If you're in Midtown, you're fine. Except for Red Roof. Calling that Midtown is a stretch.

How about the Motel 6 Atlanta Downtown - is that a fine/safe option?
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
This lineup is great. It's going to be interesting to see Counterpoints lineup tomorrow. This lineup has no Hip Hop or Edm really while Counterpoint is mostly Edm and hip hop.
Such an in-depth analysis.
Wasn't meant to be, but man was I wrong! No Hip Hop.. wow

It turns out Monie was talking about the bus anyway, not the fest ticket. But the best part is, it doesn't even go up $25 bucks, it only goes up to $215. Shaky Knees is a serious deal, especially if you split the cost of the hotel and gas with friends.
Is there this level of safety concern for all city festivals or just Atlanta?
Well, pretty much every major city that would host a music festival has bad parts in the city: Buku in New Orleans, Lolla in Chicago, Made in America in NYC, etc. i used to live in Atlanta and go there at least a couple times a year and I'm here to tell you that altanta can get sketchy quick if you aren't paying attention and don't know where you're going.

I've only done a few city fests (Louisville, Chicago, Austin- I won't count Columbus because I live here) and I never considered the safety factor. And I didn't for this until reading these comments. I'm not sure if that makes me naive or if it makes ATL sketchy.
The Strokes Death From Above 1979 TV On The Radio Panda Bear Mastodon Ryan Adams Built To Spill Spiritualized The Pixies James Blake
Many others I'd love to see, as well.
I assume you know them, but I just wanna make sure you checkout Soiritualized because they're truly amazing and they are an extremely hard act to catch in the US (this one of the only two dates he has scheduled in the US this year)

It's this thread. Atlanta is no more dangerous than any other big city. The fest is in a new location that would appear to be more sketchy than the old location so seem people are worried about it. It will be totally fine especially in a big festival crowd.
Have they done single day tickets in the past? I'm afraid I'm only going to be able to go Saturday... Will they announce the schedule before they put single day tickets up for sale?

Ok, I just want to be clear, this is what I was trying to portray in my response as well. Atlanta has sketchy parts, just like all major cities. I haven't looked at the new location though, so I'm not sure if it's considered a bad part of town or not.

This new location is way better. I'd rather get my teeth pulled then go to Atlantic Station.

I love Atlanta, only been there a few times but every time I've gone I've experienced nothing but great things. It's my #1 choice to move to after college
