With all of these concerns about the festival being held in a sketchy location, Shaky Knees seems like a totally appropriate name. Like someone said above, the huge festival crowd should lighten fears if there were any.
It's this thread. Atlanta is no more dangerous than any other big city. The fest is in a new location that would appear to be more sketchy than the old location so seem people are worried about it. It will be totally fine especially in a big festival crowd.
Ok, I just want to be clear, this is what I was trying to portray in my response as well. Atlanta has sketchy parts, just like all major cities. I haven't looked at the new location though, so I'm not sure if it's considered a bad part of town or not.
I knew what you were talking about. The trepidation comes from it being in the Old Fourth Ward. Years ago O4W was a really dangerous area. But the last 10 years or so of gentrification/general improvement has really brought the place around. There is a homeless shelter near by which I guess could scare some people but seriously, it's fine.
I hope you guys realize this fest was held in the 4th ward a couple years ago and everybody was fine. It's a different park, but pretty much the same neighborhood.

This new location is way better. I'd rather get my teeth pulled then go to Atlantic Station.
Couldn't agree more. AS sucks when there's not an event there and it's a pain when you want to do shit inside of it. Central Park all the way with it's sweet, cushy grass.

There was actually greater reason to worry because the Masquerade is haunted.
I love Atlanta, only been there a few times but every time I've gone I've experienced nothing but great things. It's my #1 choice to move to after college
Come on down dude. As you can probably tell from my posts I love Atlanta. It's a great city with good potential and growing opportunity. Plus the mayor's office is taking investment in infrastructure seriously for once so it's going to get a lot nicer in the coming decade. Cost of living is still fairly cheap and we get plenty of great bands/art stuff. And what might be nicest is there seems to be a lot of other people that love living in Atlanta.

Ohhh, seem I lived there in the late 90's so if I heard 4th ward, I would've called it sketchy, haha. It's great to hear they really cleaned it up. I personally love atlanta, especially for all the haunted houses around Halloween. Holy shit, wait, I know this really unrelated, but have any of the Atlanta locals been to the heavy metal club that puts on a really raunchy haunted house during October?! Like, you have to sign a waiver and shit to get in and the actual club is fucking insane too

Let me be clear as well...i live in atlanta and love this city. I'm going to the fest and will not at all be worried about security.....my wife will go a day or two as well...i'm just saying it's not an area you want to hang outside the fest, so why not stay somewhere you can walk around and have shops, eats, bars etc. ....and by 'area' i mean about 1/3 mile in any direction around the park....the red roof is fine for leaving the fest and going to your room, but if you want to do anything at night or morning, relocate.
hehehe....I think the reactions to the location from out of towners are pretty funny. And not entirely off base. Less than a mile southwest of the venue is probably the largest cluster of homeless that I can think of in the city. They're definitely better than the dope boys, you shouldn't see them in this area. Expect to get pan handled though.
' Also, there's a grocery store a few blocks north east of the venue that has been eloquently dubbed "murder kroger".
But they're trying to fancy up Murder Kroger now! It's called Beltline Kroger
Who are we kidding? It'll always be Murder Kroger.
Looks like my "Ghetto" Kroger just became the new Murder Kroger:

That all sounds great honestly. It seems like Atlanta always gets all of the shows I'd love to see. Plus Atlanta seems like a great place for the career I'm pursuing. I also love the concept of living in a big city.
Most importantly though, I need to get the fuck out of Florida

You live in Florida?!? I had no idea. You hide it so well.

Shoot me a PM if you have any questions about how amazing Atlanta is.

The old fourth ward is awesome I live there and love it. Was just trying to give a heads up to out of towners staying in the red roof inn that the immediate area can get sketchy not like you're gonna get shot sketchy just like drug dealers and homeless people sketchy lol. Was not trying to scare anyone because it is far from being the worst area of Atlanta and really cleaning up. just wanted you guys to know before ya got there. Its really just because of the Bedford pine apartments which is a a very large section 8 apartment with buildings lining parkway and boulevard. Nothing to be scared of, just be smart at night
1. Built to Spill 2. Pixies 3. Neutral Milk Hotel 4. Wilco 5. The Strokes 6. Spiritualized 7. Real Estate 8. Mac Demarco 9. TV on the Radio 10. Kaiser Chiefs
