Well, since the by-day lineup dropped, I started thinking I'd probably just go Friday... after the add of Ride, I really would consider a full weekend pass. That is an absolutely fantastic addition, and easy top 5 act of the whole weekend for me.
Friday: The Strokes Death From Above 1979 TV On The Radio Mastodon James Blake
Saturday: Built To Spill Wilco Interpol Real Estate Neutral Milk Hotel
Sunday: Ride Panda Bear Ryan Adams Spiritualized Tame Impala
Friday Brand New James Blake Pixies Mac DeMarco TV on the Radio
Saturday Avetts Wilco Noel Gallagher Neutral Milk Hotel FIDLAR
Sunday Tame Impala Ryan Adams Old Crow Panda Bear Spiritualized
I thought everybody on here hated Avetts.
Have you seen them live? They have a few songs I enjoy.
No one really hates Avetts, it's just that most people have seen them at least once and it is almost guaranteed that their will be a late night show that is far more appealing to get a good spot at than Avetts.

I think the group is pretty mixed on The Avetts. They were my favorite band for a couple of years and I've seen them about 20 times. It's not the same for me personally now because they've rounded out the edges to be more appealing to a larger audience, and the rough edges were why I liked them in the first place. Their early records were like bluegrass meets punk, where as they are currently doing folksy ballads. I'm more of a casual fan now. I wouldn't go out of my way to see them, but since they play at an infinity number of festivals every year I don't really have to. If you've only listened to their music since "I and Love and You" came out in 2009 it's largely a different band. I recommend "Talk on Indolence" and "Pretty Girl from Chile" if you want to give them/their older stuff a try.

One the most miserable concert experiences I ever had was suffering through the Avetts while in the Radiohead pit line. I can't stand them. All of my real life friends hate them, too. Everybody single person in my Shaky Knees group is planning on skipping them for late night.

And here this guy comes to piss all over whatever sparks of positivity there were brewing in the thread.
I just started listening to Spiritualized when the lineup came out. They have grown on me fast.
Late night possibility?
It's possible, but I would say very unlikely since they are playing Levitation in Austin, TX late on friday night. So they could a play Sat. night in ATL, but Austin to Atlanta is like a 14 hour drive, so it'd be a pretty tall task.
Sounds like my perception of everybody about Avetts were off.
Is it do-able to catch a taxi after a headliner to go to a late show? Looks like all the venues are 2.5 - 3.5 miles out from Central Park.
Taxis can be inconsistent in Atlanta. It's not that you couldn't catch one around there but they're not super reliable like in larger cities. Use Uber.

Perfect summation. I think for me it's a combination of their sound changing plus just personally growing out of the Avetts after wearing them out for a few years. I doubt I will ever pay money for an Avetts concert again, and I would pick an endless number of bands over them in a festival conflict situation. However, if there is literally nothing better to see at Shaky Knees and I'm not ready to call it a night and leave the festival, I will see them and probably enjoy 45% of the show.

Sorry. I was getting worried that I would mistakenly get lumped in with the Avett fans.

Everybody person reading this thread needs to be aware of this. "Use Uber" should be in the Subject line.

The Masquerade is less than a mile away from Central Park, so that's walkable. They should have a couple of shows there. But after a headliner isn't a good idea. You could skip out on Avetts and THEN get a taxi but when everybody's walking around, you'd have to walk away from all the foot traffic and get a taxi from there.
Does Shaky Knees usually announce after shows or something? I'm kind of new to this concept. Do venues close to the festival grounds have shows after the SK headliner is done?

Shaky Knees said on facebook that the late nights will be announced in March. The music venues around the city will have shows in conjunction with Shaky Knees after the headliners. I believe they offer tickets for discounted price if you have a Shaky Knees ticket, but the shows are open to the public. I've only ever gone to the late nights and not the actual festival, so somebody else may be better at explaining how to purchase late night tickets with a Shaky Knees wristband.

I have a different opinion than a lot of people on here I think. My two best friends have loved Avetts for many years now. They've been trying to drag me to shows since around 2008ish? Maybe 2009? I just never really liked them enough to pay for a ticket to see just them. I also didn't start going to larger festivals that that'd play until the last two years. This means I've only seen them once, last May. They were FANTASTIC live. It made me understand why my friends have seen them like 6 times since 08-09ish and still continue to see them. I never disliked them, even when I saw them I knew most of the songs. I just never understood the hype. Now I love them. Their live show really sparked my interest in them.
And yea, my favorite song by them is Pretty Girl from Chile. So I'm glad I'm apparently doing something right there. Lol.

Not necessarily close to the festival, but several venues around Atlanta will have shows on Fri. and Sat. that start about 11:30pm. I think there were 6-7 late night shows each night last year, and the tickets to those shows were around $15-20.
