So who's going to apply for volunteering this year? I think I'm going to try to get in on pre-fest this year. I had such a great experience last year! I actually have the money for a ticket, but I think I prefer the volunteer experience to the general admission one.
I'll definately be going back for volunteering. I had a great time. Well it was really awesome until all the during fest people got there. Then it was one big crap storm. Still fun, but one big crap storm. Actually I think the only thing that pissed me off was when I came back from my really long shift to find all these during fest people that JUST got there were taking showers and using up the hot water. So by the time I got into the shower it was ice cold. HELLO, I've been dirty for days and they've been dirty for a few hours. That was the pits.
But I can't wait to go back. I hope I see all of the lovely people again this year. Camille and Bryce were the greatest neighbors ever. Levi was the most fun to work with.
If we are camped in the same spot I call the tree again this year.

If anybody is interested in food service for the volunteering, Bearly Edible and Feel Good Foods is looking for approximately 50 people. We do the catering for Clean Vibes and also operate a couple vegetarian concession booths. If you are interested drop me a line at fgfasheville@gmail.com
It was the best spot on the lot. There was never a time when I couldn't be in my tent. This year I think I'll bring a couple of buckets of frozen margaritas for the first night.

yeah that shower thing really sucked, ESPECIALLY since i had just worked TWELVE hours repairing the post office.
And then when we were on our 2nd or 3rd day of working, a gang of during fest people dropped by the post office to help out because of the novelty of actually getting dirty/literally slinging mud onto the post office walls. maybe their intentions were nice, but i remember how much they got in the way and how much harder it made our job cleaning up after them after they left a mess.
one thing I hope they get straightened out is the equal hours for most people. The 7 or 8 of us who worked on the post office had three 12 hour shifts, like we'd signed up for. I dont think i ran into anyone else who had that many hours. The guy i camped with had two 6 or 8 shifts, i don't remember which. But I would have appreciated a better dispersion of hours between all the pre-fest volunteers.
I highly doubt I'll be back in 2010 for that reason, but also because I'll be in class and won't have access to internet to work on summer classes, and pre-fest ate up all my vacation time for the year. But regardless, it was fun.

I sent an email to M&M Parking a few days ago to try to get a job with them. If I don't get that, I'll be volunteering again, maybe with Clean Vibes or the catering company mentioned above. Check-in was a nightmare last year. But everything after that was ok with me. I was apparently luckier than some others though. I volunteer at a few fests a year, and last year at Roo was probably the easiest gig I've had, and only one 12 hour shift, because of the over-staffing, was sweet.

I heard back from M&M Parking, and I got what I think is the identical response from last year, saying that all positions are filled. I also heard back from the catering company. They want 1/4 of a $250 deposit not long from now.
I decided to apply for a paid job, post-fest with Clean Vibes. I just got through filling out what I think was the most detailed job application I've ever done, other than the fact that I don't think it asks anything about education, just a lot of essay questions about experience, and why you want to work for Clean Vibes, what you can contribute, etc. They ask for two job refs and one personal. A lot of trouble for a job measured in hours, but I may want to work with them at some other fests in the future, so it may be worth the trouble in the long run. It'll be nice to not only get into Roo, but get paid as well. Esp. since Roo 2010 is apparently going to be the worst music festival in the history of the world.
I was wondering what all the perks to volunteering are, what all do you do?
I would like to get pre-fest volunteering, what do you think are the chances?
1 - Perks include one meal per shift, camping in the volunteer camping area, which is completely secure, (unless someone were to come in by means other than the one entrance with security) with showers with lines so long I never used them last year.
2 - There're are a lot of different things you could wind up doing, I'll leave that for others to answer.
3 - Chances of getting pre-fest will be improved by getting your application in as soon as they start taking them.
your job will be semi related to the info you put down on the application.
I work at a hotel in customer service, so i was involved in checking in all during fest volunteers.
whatever you do, dont put down that you are good at manual labor/lifting things. because they will put you to work, but most shifts were 6-8 hrs and easy as hell
Which leads to my next question. If I wanted could I set up in tent only instead of Volunteer Camp? As in not even move put initially setup in TO
No, because you have to check in for "during fest" volunteering on Tuesday and pre-fest check-in is Sunday. Tent Only doesn't open until Thursday morning. (Unless you wanna sleep in your vehicle until then).
Well I guess I could always walk over to TO thursday morning.
I hope I get pre-fest
Keep checking the bonnaroo website and get your application and deposit in as soon as you can for the best chance. You'll get instructions on making the $250 deposit, by Paypal, after you're accepted.

^^^ That's good to know. I think I'm gonna bring an extra tent this year and try to get one set up Wednesday afternoon in tent only. I'd still leave most of my stuff in Vol Camp, but it'd be nice to have a beer stash and place to crash late-night (and maybe during certain HL sets) when I don't feel like walking back to camp.
