First post here, been lurking for a while, a lot of good advice in this thread, got a couple questions. People who have volunteered before: Are the volunteer showers free or are they just pay showers exclusively for volunteers?
Also has anyone who put down tollbooth as their 1st preference get an email yet?
Hey gabians, glad to have you on board! As far as the showers go, they are completely free for volunteers. However, I'm not sure if volunteers are allowed separate showers from general admission.

The showers are in the volunteer campground, so they are exclusively for the volunteers. When I went in 2009, it was a shower trailer thing that had 6 showers. They were pretty decent for being in the middle of nowhere.
Greetings Darrell, You've been selected to work the Toll Booths at Bonnaroo this year! One of the best things about working Toll Booths is that you will be done with your WET obligation on or before Friday night, and get to enjoy the rest of the weekend without having to work and miss any music!!!
Check In is between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM on Tuesday June 7th.
Please plan your travels now as you MUST arrive on time. Directions to the WET check in will be emailed next week.
Toll Booth volunteers are required to camp at the West Toll Booth location for the duration of your work days (up until your last shift is done, no later than Friday, June 10th), after which you may move to camp with the general Bonnaroo patrons (however, your car will need to stay parked in this lot). You will be working more than 18 hours, but will be done with all of your work before Friday night. A boxed meal will be provided for you during your shifts and there will be a volunteer BBQ on Tuesday night!
-the Work Exchange Team
Spread the word, if you know anyone interested in volunteering at Bonnaroo this year, it's not too late! Spots are open and the application is live. We will close the application as soon as all spots have been filled.
I just got tollbooth, but my friends didn't. Anyone know how the camping/parking would work out? Can they camp with me, can I move to regular volunteer camping, can we all go to tent-only??
toll booth said to stay in the specific toll booth camping area until your last shift is done then you move... i dont know how picky they'll be but i think they'll be adament about having only toll booth volunteers there and that depending on who's parking the car, someone might have to haul stuff to their camping area. they can move to tent only and leave you space and then you can join on friday whenever your shifts are done. you may be able to get away with moving on friday to regular volunteer camping too. just gotta figure out what you'd do before meeting them... bring a small tent and deal with it, find other volunteers to share a tent with, find another ride with a toll booth volunteer...etc
Does anyone know of any cheap hotels in the area, as close as possible?
I'm staying about 30-40 minutes out in McMinnville. AAA discount at America's Best Value Inn for $55.07 total. This wasnt even the absolute cheapest choice but I figured the cheapest is probably even worse quality and whatnot and this is down the street from the McMinnville Walmart where I'll probably do my shopping before check-in
So as we're getting closer to being onsite, I'm really starting to worry about what my schedule will be. I'm during fest with my b/f, and we volunteered in 2009 together. We did not work together and it sucked...bad. Honestly, if this happens again, I might start yelling out of pure frustration! For those that worked during fest last year, were you scheduled with who you wanted to be with? I wouldn't really worry about it but we're not going with any other ppl.
I heard WET does a real good job of trying hard to get people to work together and there's also the Tues night bbq you can maybe swap shifts with other volunteers at...

Thanks! Do you know if there are any that are closer? I'm having such a struggle looking these things up. My friend just has to drop me off and then stay at the hotel, so I want it to be as easy for her as possible.

Hey guys. I've lurked this thread for a while, but have some questions of my own. Let me start by saying I'm officially a Tollbooth Volunteer. I'm very excited about this. However I don't want to be stuck at the tollbooth campground all weekend. I know they say you're free to move after your shifts are finished, but what if I want to move early. not my car, just my tent. Do you think it would be possible to set my tent up at the tent only camping before the grounds even open? Thats my plan but I'm worried and in need of advice. On a side note, if you need a ride along Interstate 65, south of Louisville KY, let me know. I have plenty of room.
Thanks so much, and its nice to actually meet all of you!

The closer you get, the harder it is. Murfreesboro or McMinnville or something. Things fill up way ahead of time and are expensive for Roo weekend.
searching hotels near manchester TN is what I'm doing right now... For prices, I just stuck in Tues night. not sure if they wanted to stay just tues night or the whole fest or what. that might make availability more tricky if longer.
That's pretty much what I can find online with availability for Tues June 7th... double the price of my hotel. And the cheapest there was $36 but I think that one might be too cheap. (Scottish Inn in McMinnville)
Someone asked about cabs to the site? I'd suggest looking into craigslist or something similar... Last year there were folks living along the road where we waited in line who offered a ride to Wal-Mart for $15, you might find someone on craigslist willing to drive you around for a lot less than a cab driver.
How crowded is the main volunteer campground? Do they pack cars in as tight as in the regular campgrounds?
Yes. Prior to W.E.T. taking over the volunteer operations, you could pick a spot anywhere in the volunteer campground. This was nice perk for the pre-fest vols as they could grab spots along the fence or where there was shade. Last year, they lined up everyone into lanes like the regular camps and which did not provide much room at all. My tent was touching the ones to the right and left. Not a big deal... but just be prepared to live in somewhat close quarters.

Hi, I would also like to know this. Are there any of you who worked Tollbooth in the past? What did you do?

Hey everyone! It's my first time volunteering! I asked to work post fest, so that's what I am hoping they let me do. I have like 5 days off work after Roo, so don't wanna miss any bands since I have so much time off.
Do post-fest volunteers still get access to free showers during the weekend??

Hi, I would also like to know this. Are there any of you who worked Tollbooth in the past? What did you do?
yeah, i worked tollbooth last year. wednesday night, we were supposed to be helping park cars that were entering the farm, but with the thunderstorms, they quit letting people in. i had an overnight shift (10 pm-7 am), but actually got to sleep some while there was nothing going on. this was the only night i "worked". thursday night, there was nothing for us to do as they had to many volunteers (i guess), so we had to wait a couple of hours to see if anything came up. nothing did, so we were free to go for the rest of the fest. some people i worked with wed night had to turn right back around and work thurs afternoon after just getting done with their shift at 7 am. it wasn't too bad, and i was done by thurs night. i would have done it again this year, but my wife is coming for the first time and she didn't want me to be working while she was there.
the campground was around POD 6, so be prepared for a hike if you're not planning on moving to someone else's camp. it was seriously about a 40 min walk. they were nazis about the campsites when we first got there. they were parking us just like GA, but once the staff left, i moved across the "street" and got a huge vacant site. i could still see my vehicle, so it was all good. i wouldn't have had room to set up my tent, much less my 10X10 canopy, in the first spot they gave me.

40 minutes from pod 6??? That doesn't seem right - I was camped in hansel last year, just south of the pod, and my walk couldn't have been more than 10 or 15 minutes to the ferris wheel entrance

yeah, it was a hike...it was real close to the silo you see when you come in on bushy branch road
For anyone still looking to volunteer, just fyi, two of us just applied, were instantly accepted, and dropped our deposits down, all in under an hour.
This was for during-fest volunteering (work prohibits doing pre or post). This will be our fourth 'roo but first time as a volunteer. Look forward to seeing folks there! No idea, of course, what our assignments will be. Missed last year and am so glad to be able to make it this year!
