it was close to a pod, so a taxi will drop you off there...
yeah, shifts were spread out. one guy i worked with the first night had to work again at like 4 or 5 that afternoon until midnight. you prob won't work as much as they tell you, but be prepared to. i have worked the past 2 years and haven't had to work the amount of hours they told volunteers on the application...
tollbooth camping (if its in the same place) is a LONG walk into centeroo. i dont think there is anywhere on the farm where the walk could be longer...
This was in an email from WET on WHY YOU WANT TO BE A TOLLBOOTH VOLUNTEER-[glow=red,2,300]Great Camping - get to camp in the West Busy Branch camping area which located close to Centeroo! [/glow]
You would think that if they are camping volunteers in the same place as last year, they wouldn't rub salt in the wound by blatantly lying AND emailing about it a Pro to try and attract volunteers.
Either one of two things then-either it really IS in a different, closer location this year, or I'm going to be pissed.
D
P.S.-I probably won't be TOO pissed because I'M GOING TO BONNAROO!!! ;D
So I asked when toll booth would be notified on WET's facebook, and they just said it'd be released "soon". Well, how soon is soon?? lol...Hopefully tomorrow

Yeah, I think you and I are the most anxious about toll booth. I'd just like to know so I can set my schedule up for the weekend!
I would also like to know what my work schedule. Cant wait for the BBq on the 7th looking forward to the meet and greet.
I'm looking forward to the BBQ myself. Hope to see you there. But I don't think the actual work schedules are given out until we get there on Tuesday. Supposedly, if you get toll booth, you're finished by no later than Friday night. That would be sweet!
I read that people can switch shifts by meeting the other volunteers at the bbq, so that should be nice. I like that I have less food to pack with that tues night bbq. I just still wonder how early vendors will open for us to get food if we want to avoid cooking. I'm probably gonna do food shopping right before I check-in in McMinnville (I might steal some ice from the hotel too to add to our own homemade ice blocks and frozen waters, *if* they have ice machines, lol)

I'm pretty sure you'll get an email from WET. What did you apply for?
they'll be sending more info over the next several weeks, it seems. we all at least need final confirmation of what shift we got (pre, post, tollbooth, or during fest) and from that, they'll be sure to notify us of check in times and location, I'm sure.
i haven't done this through WET before, so someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.... but check in will be at walmart more or less... they set up a few tents on the corner there and u wait in line for like 2 hours... no exaggeration, so come prepared....they check u in, give u shirt, meal tokens, schedules and specific assignments if you are during fest, and directions to get in and a volunteer parking pass so the gatekeepers will let you in....then u follow the map, park, and there is an orientation at one of the tents that afternoon ( maybe the BBQ is the orientation this year? )....if you are POD they will stick around after the orientation and get their schedules then.....
EDIT - also if you are a POD volunteer... at least before WET... you dont have to wait in the long line to check in, just go around to the right and tell someone over there you are a POD volunteer and they will take care of you...
sure would be nice to get a Tollbooth confirmation email today though.....
oh. interesting. i thought we'd check in on site. i guess that works. i wonder then if itd be more convenient to just go to the Manchester Walmart to shop or go nearby the hotel and shop before headin down from McMinnville... hmm...
ugh. yeah. really hopin ill get the email by the time im done with my hospital volunteering shift tonight at 8pm (eastern). if not, then id be surprised if we dont get it tomorrow. still crossin my fingers for tonight.
im always afraid to shop at that walmart because there will already be a caravan of people in that parking lot when you check in....waiting for the gates to open, or meeting people to get in line with, or just burnt and forgot what day it starts... anyway im always afraid they would be out of something i need... and they have no dry ice.. another must have for me.. especially if i have to be there tuesday

Wow-that is interesting. I just KNEW that by vounteering, I would just zip up to the gate, tell them I'm volunteering, and get right in! I'm sure that won't be the only thing I'm wrong about on my first trip to the farm.
You think they'll be working during the weekend at WET-I mean the corporate side? My money says they don't. Sure would be nice to hear if we got toll booth today or tomorrow though.

i think if we dont have anything by tonight, we wont get anything until monday.. but that is just a guess...
and after check in u do zip right into the farm... it is just that part before the farm that is a pain...
one more thing... bushy branch is still a road ( when u get real close and it seems like ur there, that road will be shut off once it starts...) but you can get pulled over for not wearing your seabelt on that road... as i found out the hard way a few years ago..
last year the check in was not at walmart, they had it in some old empty warehouse building, I drove right past it and had to turn around before finding it, and that was only a pre-check in. we had to check in again after parking, which took over an hour while it was storming like crazy so the orientation never happened -at least I didn't see it-everybody ran back to their vehicles to escape the rain. also they were checking vehicles at the gate after leaving the first check in. we waited in line a good hour before they said eff it and waved everybody in.
question about PODs again-I haven't heard if I was accepted for pods but according to the site POD check in is a little later in the day. I'm thinking I would be told in advance so I don't hustle up there too early?
I read some pages back but couldn't find an answer.
Are the volunteer slots filled up? Should I still apply for a spot or is it super spotty right now? Any help would be legit! <3 you guys.
Go ahead and sign up right away. If you are seeking Pre-Fest, still make that first choice even though we are so close. You never know if a slot may have opened up with a last minute cancellation. A During Fest position should be still easy to get given how many more vols are needed. Good Luck!
I applied and was accepted to be a volunteer. But I just found out that my grandmother is really sick and I'm going to be visiting her with the rest of my family during the festival dates. I HATE the thought that I'm flaking out after I said that I would be there but I'd also really hate to lose all of the money I put down, especially on my starving college student budget. Is there anything I can do at this point? Could I still try to sell my wristband or something?
I dont think you get your wristband until you get there, so maybe you can get in touch asap with them and they can maybe be understanding? hmm... that's really unfortunate

Probably the only thing you can do at this point is find someone to take your place or call WET and explain the situation and hope they show some compassion. This is not from experience-this will be my first time there or volunteering.
I read somewhere they need 1500 to 2000 volunteers for Bonnaroo and don't have all the spots filled. I don't know if that'll figure into their decision to help you or not. Good luck.
Clean Vibes gives their volunteers sleeping arrangements? I had no idea... i've been giving people advice on Ask Gary to plan to bring gear. crap!
hmm... i was gonna go and look for the threads i wrote on but dont see them. oh well... i guess its better to overpack then under... and they might want more than they give them anyway.
update: it was a facebook post on WET's site. so unless they dont realize CV and WET are separate, I gave the right advice after all... phew!
edit: do paid volunteers get a place to sleep and whatnot or just paid?
My girlfriend and I are volunteering at the Roo and are flying in from California. We just found a great price on a flight that gets us in to BNA at 10am, tuesday morning, which leaves us 4 hours to get to Manchester if we have to work tollbooth and more if we are assigned to another post.
We're trying to figure out how to get down to the site without renting a car, since it seems kind of pointless if we're at the festival all weekend.
I was wondering if anyone had any guestimates on how much a cab would be, its only an hours drive, albeit out of the way but I was wondering if anyone had any experience with trying to get a cab to drive you down there.
We've flown in wednesday night and caught a ride with other people we met at the airport before but I doubt theres going to be many people heading that way tuesday morning.
Anyone else volunteering that will be in that area around the same time?
First post here, been lurking for a while, a lot of good advice in this thread, got a couple questions. People who have volunteered before: Are the volunteer showers free or are they just pay showers exclusively for volunteers?
Also has anyone who put down tollbooth as their 1st preference get an email yet?
