Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Alright. I'm back and updated and emails are sent. Let me know if anything needs changing and keep on messaging me to access the doc (I need your emails for that!)
If you're doing pre-fest, you should bring some work gloves. Even if you don't end up needing them, it's likely one of your neighbors will.
Agreed. I think this is especially true if on Support or Visual Design and Decor. travelinbeat has said the same thing and he did pre-fest for several years.

Here's my Bonnaroo packing list on Google Doc if anyone's interested in seeing what camping gear and clothing I take. It can certainly get cold at night, even in mid-June.
There are threads in the That Tent board that cover what to take.
One thing for pre-festers to keep in mind is you will likely not be able to buy ice until Wednesday (possibly Thursday morning) when the ice vendor finally gets around to setting up shop. I stopped packing perishables a few years ago and it really makes things a lot easier. Consider using dry ice if you insist on packing meat. In years past, some pre-fest volunteers have been able to drive off the farm for a quick trip to Wal-Mart or take the shuttle but I would not count on those options being available this year. If they are running the shuttle, it's a 15 min walk to the pick-up spot.
As far as a Facebook group, not yet. I suppose we could start 1 with all the people that have given their Facebook info, but we also dont want too much goin on all over the place versus having everyone talk together in 1 place.

Hey everyone! This is my second time at the roo, first time volunteering. I've just been put into during-show Access, not really sure what it's about but I was hoping maybe to find someone here who's either done it/is doing it this year. Hopefully I'll run into a few of you on the farm!

Oh dear! I'm totally overwhelmed with these camping lists! I haven't been camping since I was 8 years old and don't own a thing! I can't really afford to invest in too much, what are the most essential items? I'm thinkin' I'll be eating spaghetti-os and drinking warm water all weekend So, people bring tents and a canopy to put over their tent? I was going to camp next to a friend from Ohio but now that I'm volunteering I won't have her to depend on to swap supplies and help with the tent. Don't giggle when you see me trying to pitch my tent. I've never done it before, I'm sure it'll be interesting!

I'm sure those around you will be willing to help. Since the tents can get real hot real fast and really early in the morning...it helps a lot to have a canopy over your tent and have a sheet or tarp on the side that the sun will rise, at the least, to allow more shade in the morning. Make sure you tie everything down well so any strong winds dont make your stuff fly away and whatnot. (it's happened. search youtube for bonnaroo tornado, lol) Make sure you have all the poles, enough good stakes, rope, etc before packing it.
sunscreen is a must. apply frequently. get plenty of water, but there are some filtered water stations around the grounds. Camelbak helps but some people are just fine lugging around water bottles or a gallon jug or something. battery operated fans are very helpful at camp and even a good minifan to walk around with (or misting fans/bottles to help stay cool). comfortable shoes (make sure you have closed-toe shoes for volunteering!), comfortable light clothes...but also bring some longer, warmer clothes if the night gets chilly.
really, if you roam around the site you should find lots of good advice on what to pack. "That Tent" (http://inforoo.com/board/14/tent) on here lists all kinds of threads about advice from fashion to shoes to tents, etc. Lots of threads linked in this thread to help: inforoo.com/thread/24585/useful-threads-first-timers
Good luck and dont hesitate to ask a question, even if you think it sounds silly. We're here to help.

Thanks for sharing your extensive list! I'm definitely bringing supplies for s'mores. Some fellow volunteers were gracious to share some with me last year and it tasted so good.
Amber, don't be too concerned about not bringing a shade tent as you'll be able to hang out with other volunteers to stay out of the sun. I usually partner with my neighboring campers to set up shade tents side by side so there's plenty of space to hang out.
I should have mentioned there's a general store near Centeroo that offers a lot of camping supplies. It's a good place to hit up in case you need an extra canister for the stove or another poncho.

When you say "camelbak" are you referring to the 50oz backpack? Do those get heavy? Any reason why closed-toe shoes are required for artist hospitality positions? I will definitely have to invest in some, I can't remember the last time I bought closed-toe shoes that weren't heels for work! I love sandals. I'm gonna go check out that discount thread!

One of the volunteer coordinators told me that during show access was always his favorite when he volunteered because you get to be at one of the stages helping handicapped people into the handicap area at that stage.....he said its cool because even though you may miss some bands you want to see while working, you get to discover some new bands while you're there at their set working.

A couple pages back on the discount thread this popular Camelbak, the Daystar, was posted in there: www.sunnysports.com/Prod/CMLDS.html I have it and prefer it to the smaller 1 I had. Much easier to pack a jacket, blanket to sit on, poncho, etc.
I dont think it matters what C'roo you're on, but in the past they've required it. Dont want anyone slowed down by losing a flip flop, stepping on something painful, etc. Safety measure. I just bring an older pair of sneakers I don't care much about but that still fit, and I'm good. They havent given us these details yet though, I think. Just thought I'd give warning about it being a possibility though. Plus, it's nice to have a change of shoes to give your feet a break. Be careful for blisters or sunburned feet after long walks in the same shoes.

Hey everyone! I've seen a few Catering and Hospitality volunteers. I was wondering what the aspects of hospitality this deals in. I am currently in the hospitality field and would love to further my experience. Anyone do this job before? A little about me. My names Dylan and I'm 18 from South Florida. First Roo attending and volunteering. I'm so excited for Roo. My number should be added to the Spreadsheet. Would love to reach to my fellow Croo members. Especially the ones I'll be working with
First time at roo and volunteering! Looking forward to a great time and meeting all you folks. My name is Austin and me and a buddy of mine will be driving up from Florida to do during show Clean Vibes clean up.

See, I was nervous about the whole setting up camp until I realized there were so many of us. I'm willing to help anybody set up and I'm hoping we can do the neighboring shade thing. I can't imagine enjoying Roo & have a miserable neighbor too worn out by the heat or lack of hydration.
We got an email update a few hours ago. just in case some of you didn't see it, this is what it said:
"A lot of you are asking so I thought I'd put this in perspective. The PRE-Show C'roos are absolutely full and it is extremely unlikely that we will add anymore positions. We had over 1,000 people apply on Monday the 18th alone. We also opened it up early to returning volunteers. It's one of the perks that will continue next year for all of you should you come back and we hope you will.
Now many of the During-Show C'roos are starting to fill up. If you haven't gotten your deposit in yet, please do it as soon as possible. We are holding a spot for you to get it in until May 17th but the sooner you get it in the better chances you have of getting in to one of the C'roos that you wanted.
So when do you get your schedules? Not for a while...we're still focused on getting all of the spots filled, then we will build the schedules. Don't worry about your availability or being added to teams, those are features of Shiftboard that we are not using. We will schedule you around the bands that you listed and our needs for the festival as much as we can.
Check-in times. We will be sending those out in the coming weeks too. It will be based on your last name and C'roo. We will send them out as preferred times but will be open to you showing up at other times throughout the two check-in days.
Training. We are currently in the process of producing a training video that you will all have to watch and take a short quiz on before you check-in on site in June. As soon as it is ready we will send it out to all of those that are assigned to a C'roo.
Finally GuRoos. Those of you who marked on your applications that you were interested in being GuRoos will be hearing from us on Monday. That will be the first step for you to become a GuRoo."
Also, found a friend's photo from our volunteer camp last year. It's definitely nice having several EZ Ups and tarps (though a friend unfortunately had to leave a big silver tarp or 2 behind due to 5 people from this group squeeeezing in 1 car to head back home (1 car had to go to Georgia vs DC area right after Roo, and some of them had friends bail for rides back north...so it was definitely tight in there. poor things)
We came with 3 cars with 9 people total and our "tent city" campsite had 4 canopies and 6 tents total. Thought maybe you guys'd like to see it. Don't be afraid to meet up with some others in the same camp at check-in or make friends ahead of time, if possible. It definitely made our experience more fun (I didn't know some of these people until we left for Bonnaroo. Thanks to a carpool I helped organize with people I never met before in 2011...I got to know my current bf (Zac)! )
I am on my way back home to Chattanooga from Nashville and couldn't help pulling off the interstate to view the 700 site that is Bonnaroo for the first time. Hundreds of empty grass fields, hundreds of porta-potties sitting stored away, the tower, Centeroo arch (I guess that's what the arch is, right?), the barn, and the stages.... And it's fun imagining 80,000 people inside these fences covering all of this.
Will be my first at the ripe old age of 53, but this could be fun! LOL

Ooo, thanks for the insight! I was thinking it might be something along those lines. I remember last year talking to a volunteer who just had to let people into the What Stage access section. He got a pretty nice view for Bon Iver and worked off his hours while doing it.
I haven't been assigned a 'croo yet but definitely need a lift on getting there first. Toronto to Bonnaroo, anyone? Will totally pitch for gas, of course! Looking forward to meeting everyone then!

So, I was thinking this weekend that we should organize some sort of official volunteer get-together. . . actually, in my mind it was a "drinking olympics" style game of flippy cup. . . but the idea wasn't concrete.
Watchin' a stretch of road, miles of light explode. Driftin' off a thing I'd never done before. Watchin' a crowd roll in. Out go the lights it begins. A feelin' in my bones I've never felt before...

Have you checked out Zimride? Post yourself on there (and maybe Craigslist) and see what happens, you still have some time so you may very well find a ride. I know there are some other sites too but I've never tried them.

I actually got her in here from there, hehe. the more volunteers we can get in here, the more we can find near each other and to just meet some other volunteers. I know there's 1 other person here from Toronto, but flying in. (Edit: Oh...and I just realized he's doing pre-fest which is full now. leona, any chance you could fly down to Nashville and just get a ride from there?)
There may be some people on rickyrides.com too, but I feel like Zimride is easier and has a lot more people going to Roo. I guess it gets trickier when a volunteer cause you gotta be there earlier than many posting. I've been looking around for those that are volunteers on there and trying to encourage them to come over here. Hopefully we can still find more people to join us in here and help people find rides. *crosses fingers*

The way I see it, we may need to wait and see what the check-in times are and if there is going to be a BBQ for us again Tuesday evening. From there, we can probably find it easiest to work something out for Tuesday since people shouldn't have any shifts then. 1 meetup at tollbooth/parking camp and another, bigger group at the main camp. Main camp might not even have much going on for Wednesday, so that could probably work out too. Tollbooth/parking will start shifts on Wednesday. Pre-fest could have their own meetup too, if interested, or join in on the main camp's during fest meetup if they aren't on shift. It'd definitely be nice to meet you all and hang out, but I know we'll all be checking in at different times and then some of us are camping separately... Though, heck...I've walked around Centeroo before, so we could maybe even meet in there before they close it off.
Also, for any of you not working Friday morning. I encourage you to meet the awesome people of Inforoo in Tent Only (near entrances to Centeroo) for the Inforoo Brunch Friday morning of Bonnaroo. More info here:inforoo.com/thread/30420/2013-brunch-thread-get
On a different note, make sure you've uploaded a passport-like photo on Shiftboard (no hats, animals, etc), once you have login info. I'm guessing if they approve of the picture, then you can get your ID made more quickly and given to you promptly at check-in. Previous years they had the option of uploading a pic as well, but sometimes still wanted a better pic and had a webcam at check-in to do so. If you'd rather not have your pic taken at check-in, try to get a good pic uploaded beforehand, and this should help speed things up a wee bit at check-in. You can also set up text alerts (read the text on the home page).

My friends and I are totally down for a meet up! I was thinking Tuesday night, by then MOST the volunteers have gotten there and set up camp. But who knows what they will have planned for us as far BBQ or not, but we can work around that, and still do something fun!
Last year on tuesday night a group of us went exploring in centeroo we climbed on the main stage and everything it was so cool to see everything being set up. Oh and that view from the what stage, was incredible!

What? Are you kidding me? Absolutely, Tuesday night I will have to live my unrealistic dream of performing on the What stage in front of an audience lol
Yeah. I'm thinking we could meet by the arch or fountain inside Centeroo where it's easy to find. If timing works out, we could try to meet before the BBQ/orientation if we all get there early enough and set up camp in time. I'm not sure when the orientations are gonna be and whatnot, but we can try to meet up Tuesday evening or just have our separate meetups at our campgrounds if that just ends up easier. I always take time to explore Centeroo each year and post pictures for non-volunteers on Inforoo/Facebook to see. See the new fountain and any new decor and whatnot. I think we usually set up camp and explore Tuesday afternoon before we're asked to be at the BBQ. I think maybe even Wednesday works too since our shift last year didnt start until 2ish when I did toll booths. I forget when they close it off. Might be noon-ish Wednesday and definitely on Thursday since public will already be there.
We'll have to keep these meetups in mind when we get more info about schedules and check-in, for sure. Sounds like at least several of you are interested in meeting up.
