first tube is such a devastating way to open a show.
setlist looks pretty song-y but i'm always super jealous of any show that gets The Lizards.
i don't love that setlist but im still gonna give it a listen
fwiw, the second set of the final night of deer creek is hands down the best set of this tour so far, and honestly one of the best/most interesting ive ever heard them play

yeah 2nd set deer creek was wild. some fans on reddit upset there wasn't a bunch of jamming but i would've been thrilled to be there. considering all the intertwining songs and teases show notes must have been tricky, but phish.net did their best:
Sneakin' Sally contained a Ghost quote and a Waves tease. Makisupa referenced Sally. The second Twist contained a Twenty Years Later quote from Trey. The second Makisupa included a Bathtub Gin tease and quotes, Ghost and Martian Monster quotes, and Sally references. Trey teased Martian Monster in Most Events Aren't Planned. The set ending Bathtub Gin contained a Ghost quote with a Sally reference. This was the rescheduled date from the show that had been postponed due to the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak in 2020

honestly, sometimes the endless jams on a single song wear me out. I much prefer a bunch of nice segues and returns. This set was just super fun and inventive, also great song selection.

I had to work early and wanted to save cash so I skipped night 3 of Deer Creek and boy does that setlist look fascinating. Would have loved to have been there

So I was in the lawn for all of the Deer Creek run and the whole weekend was such a blast! For me, each show was awesome and different in its own right.
N1 tore my mind apart and then put it back together lol Blaze On and Simple were highlights. N2 was just good ole fashioned fun! I'm not sure ive had as much fun as I did during Possum ever! N3 felt like a send off show. The cherry on top for the weekend. I think N3 was my favorite overall show but the Possum on N2 was my favorite moment of the weekend.
getting some fascinating lectures about the truth behind the Covid-19 virus in the comments of Phish's latest instagram post
yeah there certainly libertarian-ish "just askin' questions" types in phish internet communities.
a 20 year old girl was ranting about the good old days when nobody could ask you about your political views or medical information
been told a couple times that thousands of fully vaccinated people are dying weekly from covid and that the vaccine is false, but also curiously that the survival rate for covid is 99.9% and nobody is actually getting sick and dying

random phish memory. listening to "exile on main street" this morning, and it made me remember Halloween 2009 when Phish covered it.
that was a wild year to be Phish fan. it was their comeback year after breaking up in 2004. i went to the first show back at Hampton, the Alpine Valley shows. it was great to have Phish back even if they weren't playing particularly well, in fact there weren't any really notable moments up until that point other than the Fluffhead opener 3/6/2009.
in fact i was never really comfortable that year that this was a real thing and that Phish was really back, and that they weren't just going to play a few shows this year then split up again. or pull a string cheese incident and just play like 6 shows a year for a check. that is i felt that way until the horns came in during "Rocks Off". i don't know what it was about that but i knew in that moment that phish was really back and they weren't going anywhere until one of them dies, and that feeling hasn't left me since.
I never saw any phish before 2009. they broke up when I was getting into them. when they got back in 09 I did a knoxville-bonnaroo-st. louis run. they played on campus in the basketball arena in Knoxville and it felt like a gameday (but a lot more wooks and nitrous tanks). Runaway jim opened and everyone went nuts. A mix of pre-bonnaroo excitement, being in my college town, and first time seeing phish may have biased me but I love that show.
it was my wife's first phish show too and she has an entirely different takeaway ("go see phish and leave me at home")

PHISH, TUESDAY 08/31/2021 SHORELINE AMPHITHEATRE Mountain View, CA Soundcheck: My Soul, The Final Hurrah (this soundcheck possibly incomplete)
SET 1: Glide, Colonel Forbin's Ascent > Fly Famous Mockingbird, Wolfman's Brother, If I Could, I Never Needed You Like This Before, Stash, Weigh, Bouncing Around the Room, Gotta Jibboo, Moonage Daydream
SET 2: Soul Planet -> The Final Hurrah > Theme From the Bottom, Axilla (Part II), Tela > Harry Hood
ENCORE: Fee[1], Wilson
[1] Trey on megaphone.
Forbin's and Mockingbird were performed for the first time since July 30, 2017 (113 shows). Trey teased In Memory of Elizabeth Reed in Stash. Axilla (Part II) was performed for the first time since December 31, 1995 (855 shows). Fish mentioned Lee "Scratch" Perry (who had recently passed away) in the Hood Intro. Fee featured Trey on megaphone. This was the rescheduled date from the show that had been postponed due to the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak in 2020. The new date was originally supposed to occur at Lake Tahoe Outdoor Arena at Harveys in Stateline, NV but was changed due to wildfires in the area.
glide, forbins > mockingbird to open wow.
and that soul planet is 47 minutes long lol.
so glad fans at this show got a real heater after having to change venues etc.
Flying to Denver tomorrow. My first time flying since pre-pandemic. Hope I remember what to do and don't make an ass of myself in the security line.
Still sad about Bonnaroo but three nights of phish in the chillest venue in America is a great consolation prize.
Have the best frickin time, brother. You deserve it.
Wish we were able to pull something together too - weather is just brutal here on the east coast so can't see us getting anywhere so we will hold out for MMJ at Merriweather on Tuesday.

dicks run was good. vax check and will call were a total shit show on friday, just getting my tickets and my vax wristband took around two hours total, didn't get into the venue until about 5 minutes before phish took the stage. rookie move on my part, i should've gotten to the lot early to handle all that. but it all worked out.
i think shoreline got people's expectations way to high for this run. none of the shows hit those crazy highs.
dicks is a great venue. love a general admission show and it was easy to get a spot with great sound and great people. i had stands all three nights, did wish I had floors just so I could have that option. back of the floor looked great and had plenty of space. i know it's silly to paint with a broad brush regarding differences between fans in different venues but i will anyway: southern fans are my favorite. southern crowds generally get louder and are friendlier, and surprisingly less chompy and more focused on the show. while the crowd at dicks got loud at times I found myself missing the crazy crowd roars i got at oak mountain and alpharetta (and always get at those venues on tours going back to 2010). MSG/NY crowds are always great as well.
PHISH, FRIDAY 09/03/2021 DICK'S SPORTING GOODS PARK Commerce City, CO Soundcheck: Water in the Sky, She Thinks I Still Care, Funky Bitch, work on A Life Beyond the Dream
SET 1: 46 Days, Party Time, Steam, Timber (Jerry the Mule), Yarmouth Road, Foam, Vultures, Pebbles and Marbles, Carini
SET 2: Rise/Come Together > A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing > Chalk Dust Torture > Beneath a Sea of Stars Part 1 > Light -> Plasma -> Chalk Dust Torture, Runaway Jim, Slave to the Traffic Light
ENCORE: Cavern > Waste > Good Times Bad Times
Trey teased Fire (Ohio Players) in 46 Days and Party Time. No Men In No Man's Land was teased by Trey in Party Time as well. Plasma contained Party Time quotes and 46 Days teases. The second Chalk Dust Torture included Plasma and A Song I Heard the Ocean Sing quotes. This was the rescheduled date from the show that had been postponed due to the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak in 2020.
friday: first set took a bit to get moving, but included a timber which closed a nice gap for me. vultures, pebbles and marbles, carini to close. carini was notable since it went back into carini after the jam, unusual and a nice way to close the set. second set was enjoyable. the ASOIHTOS had a nice jam going that got rip corded into CDT. really enjoyed the Ghosts of the Forest "beneath a sea of stars part 1" tune. plasma > chalkdust and runaway jim was nice. best part was a well executed Slave to the Traffic Light. to me it made up for the mediocre Slave I caught at the tour opener in Arkansas last month.
PHISH, SATURDAY 09/04/2021 DICK'S SPORTING GOODS PARK Commerce City, CO Soundcheck: We Are Come To Outlive Our Brains
SET 1: Alumni Blues > Letter to Jimmy Page > Alumni Blues, Turtle in the Clouds, Blaze On, Cool It Down > Ghost > Ya Mar, Undermind, Tube > David Bowie
SET 2: Everything's Right > Fuego > Farmhouse > Mercury -> Seven Below > Drift While You're Sleeping, You Enjoy Myself
ENCORE: Bold As Love
The lyrics in Blaze On were changed to reference Dick's. Trey teased Fire (Ohio Players) in Drift While You're Sleeping. Trey teased Tweezer and Carini in the soundcheck after We Are Come To Outlive Our Brains. This was the rescheduled date from the show that had been postponed due to the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak in 2020.
saturday: alumni blues > letter to jimmy page > alumni blues is always a treat, again been a while since i've got that. the second set had a well played Mercury and what sounded like an accidental Seven Below, but overall the set was slow and it was a rare time when i felt bored at a Phish show and kept checking my watch for the set to end. YEM to close the set was fun though. been wanting another "Bold As Love" for a while so I was pleased with the encore.
PHISH, SUNDAY 09/05/2021 DICK'S SPORTING GOODS PARK Commerce City, CO Soundcheck: Jam (with improvised lyrics)
SET 1: The Moma Dance, McGrupp and the Watchful Hosemasters, Sand > Sigma Oasis > All of These Dreams, Reba, Bathtub Gin
SET 2: Set Your Soul Free > Lonely Trip > Simple -> Catapult -> Jam > Meatstick > Ruby Waves > Bliss > Billy Breathes, Most Events Aren't Planned > Harry Hood
ENCORE: More > Say It To Me S.A.N.T.O.S.
Sand was unfinished. Reba did not contain the whistling ending. Trey teased No Men In No Man's Land in Bathtub Gin. The jam after Catapult contained Cool Amber and Mercury and Catapult quotes. Meatstick included Catapult and Lonely Trip quotes. This was the rescheduled date from the show that had been postponed due to the coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak in 2020.
sunday: best show of the run. mcgrupp LTP 99 shows ago, 44 show gap closed for me. great type 2 out of sigma oasis, and I have a soft spot for All of These Dreams. Well played Reba and Gin to close. Good Set Your Soul Free jam to open set two, some complaints that Lonely Trip killed the energy but I was in a relaxed mind set so I enjoyed it. Simple -> Catapult -> Jam was awesome. I'd never gotten a Catapult before and to be honest had no idea what it was and had to check reddit. Very cool robo synthy psychedelic jamming throughout into a fantastic and joyous Meatstick. Ruby Waves was lyrically welcome for me and the first time I've seen it live. I still don't know what Bliss is but it was 2 minutes long and my first time hearing it. Billy Breathes was unexpected and wonderful, then another synth heavy number in Most Events Aren't Planned into a fantastic Hood complete with long Trey sustain. People aren't talking enough about how Phish is finally properly hitting the Hood peak this tour. standard rocking out encore but it felt good.
overall i think denver is great. had to work some while i was out there but also got out and about and had some good ice cream (salted oreo) at Little Mans, caught lunch with some friends at Milk Market, went to the REI Flagship Store which was neat and drove through the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Preserve and saw some bison and deer. temps were wonderful, in fact i got downright chilly on friday night, which is why I went to REI the next day to buy a lightweight hoodie.
for the encore each night i stood close to an exit and bolted as soon as trey set his guitar down. as such i had minimal traffic getting out of dicks each night which was very satisfying.
