I got to enjoy the King Gizz Forrest Hills Marathon news for a solid 20 minutes before Phish went ahead and announced fest for the same weekend. We really do live a tortured existence...

i booked the Holiday Inn in Middleton, like 30-40 minute drive, for the dates of the fest. not super committed to going though. obligatory statement that phish festivals are the best way to see phish, everybody should experience it, etc., but flying and renting a car and driving in and out everyday with the possibility, albeit small, of weather or other issues being a problem doesn't make me feel easy and stress-free. and i've already been to every single 3.0 festival + coventry. also it's 4 nights, whew. maybe i'm good?
long way out though. interested to see the rest of summer tour. assuming no atlanta dates since they played this past summer, which is usually my best bet for drivable shows. rumors keep popping up about Vegas Sphere shows in April but I have no idea if there is any credence to that. i'd be much more inclined to try and make those over the festival. i think i'm more interested these days in seeing city shows? like so i can go to a place where i want to go anyway and do fun things and also see phish. like i know MSG is old hat to a lot of fans but i love seeing phish there and love NYC. and all things considered it's a pretty easy trip, numerous flights, don't have to rent a car, plenty of hotels, etc. obvious downside is cost, but i'm happier seeing 4 nights at MSG than 8 nights in like Charlotte or Raleigh or whatever.
edit: also pretty committed to going to bonnaroo again, which ticks the box for my annual big crowded exhausting hot festival experience. love that i can drive there and hang out with a bunch of cool people.
Carolina slander cannot be tolerated round these parts sir.
Vegas would be fun, especially the new venue. I’m a 3.0 newby so festival would be really cool for me. Also curious to see if they tour Nc or sc heavy that would easily deter me from going or I’d just do a lot of Phish next year. It looks like the fest would be 7 and a half hour drive. So not the best and not the worst.

ha don't get me wrong NC rocks and i love seeing shows there, just pulled them as an example of random sheds. these days i'd rather see fewer shows in a destination city than maximize quantity of shows driving or flying all around the country.
if you can pull off the festival you definitely should, especially if you are good with camping. being totally immersed in the phish world across multiple days is a unique and rare experience. and it sounds funny but part of the appeal of a phish festival is it's only phish and there are no other bands to see. so during the day you are just hanging out or wandering around seeing random shit. like at magnaball they had a tent setup where they had a phish trivia game show going on. at superball ix i layed in a field at 2pm and watched Jaws with a dozen other people. i think at superball also they had people riding around on unicycles and old timey bikes.
plus the not-so-secret secret sets are always a treat.
seven hours is my bonnaroo drive, ez peezy lemon squeezy.
Oh I’ll def probably go, I have a buddy who will want to go so that’ll be a blast. Also 4 days of Phish is bad ass. Can’t beat that. I’ll have a full report in 11 months lol
It’d be hard not to go to Vegas for the first time and see them in that venue. CK5 would be worth every dollar spent
yeah and i've never seen phish in vegas. favorite band and one of my favorite cities. halloween is tough to take off from work, so april shows + sphere would make a great excuse to fly out. stay at the Wynn and mosey over to the venue ever night, would be wonderful.

Your passion for Vegas has made Vegas go from a place I was never interested in visiting to one I’d love to find an excuse to make our first trip out there.

Yeah, the Wynn is nice and chill and right across the street. Last time I stayed there I was on the 58th floor so it was a nice window view of the city.
What does a 4 day Phish festival look like? Do they book anyone else to play?? I'm being serious.
They arrange for other minor amusements during the day but it almost certainly will just be extended shows each day. Phish will be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine. When Phish isn’t playing, all the attendees will ask each other “when’s Phish gonna play?”
yeah it's just phish. at one of their festivals in the 90s they did have other bands, but nobody came to see them so they didn't do it again. fishman said in an interview something like "at least i got to see Del McCoury in a field with 20 other people".
this is their first 4 day festival, the others have been two or three days, so not sure how they'll structure set times. the last fest was Magnaball in 2015, Friday was two sets + encore, Saturday three sets + encore (first set at 3pm with a longer set break before the second set) then a late night "secret set", with the secret set being pure jamming for roughly an hour. then Sunday two sets + encore. the sets are typically longer than a regular phish show, more like 1.5 hours as opposed to 1.25 hours.
during the day you just hang out or wander around seeing what's what. it's a lot of fun. great sense of community.

As much as I'd love to check Phish out (never seen them), going to a 4 day festival to see one band I'm kinda meh on would seem to be a roll of the dice lmao.

also this might have been obvious but someone on the internet pointed out that "Dover Festival" = "Do-Over Festival". i wouldn't put it past phish to choose a festival location based on a word joke.

If firefly isn't happening, there's a decent chance Ill be here since so many of the same ppl will be going. Hell, there's a non zero chance I'd go to both.
