If MSG is a bucket list venue, I genuinely cannot think of a better way to cross it off than Phish NYE.
It’s so much fun!
I’ve seen a knicks game there as a kid around thanksgiving. That’s my only experience at the moment. One day I’ll make it up there for NYE Phish but idk when lol

This suggestion made me your biggest Phan . 2019 lineup releases and never listened to Phish. This pod was incredible. I should relisten to it now as a fan. This shit is bad ass , might have to snag one. Did we just become Shirt Brothers?
Get ready to get your ass beat at the Ferris Wheel in our matching shirts <333 love and light

lmao what up shirt brother.
analyze phish is super fun to relisten to, i think you'll find it even funnier now that you are deeper in. it's low key one of the best introductions to phish, and also a good way for a phish fan to keep themselves grounded. you can let scott aukerman drive you crazy because he's so obstinate, or you can admit he has a lot of really good points about how ridiculous phish is to new ears.
like i have a deep love for the song "ghost", obviously, but when wittels plays it for aukerman, and the opening line "i feel i've never told you the story of the ghost / that i once knew and talked to / of whom i'd never boast", and aukerman busts out laughing at it, at first it hurt my feelings, and then i was like "actually those are terrible lyrics wow".
of course then you can follow that up with they are terrible on purpose because trey and tom marshall are a couple of knuckleheads. but the point is the podcast helped me understand why phish is so repellant to so many people, which paradoxically further solidified my own fandom.

the best kind of phish fans are the ones who can admit to themselves that lots and lots of things about this band are tremendously stupid and silly

That’s funny I always think of the Ghost convo when I’m laughing at a show. Like during Santos, this is what space smells like. They are goobers. Meatstick, Meat, so many great silly songs. The podcast def made the transition into the wild world of Phish. I’ll add the pod back to my library.

back in the summer of '99 when they first introduced Meatstick and tried to get everyone to do the dance so that they could get a Guinness record at Oswego, there were a lot of people who took themselves too seriously to engage in such nonsense and they were absolutely the worst kind of people you'd ever meet at a show

It’s sounds like those people need a shock to the brain. Lindsey and I will break out into singing Meatstick occasionally and it’s always a good moment. Wish I was there for that dance along. Only gotten Meatstick once but dang that one will stick with ya lol

Would yall want to do a Phish setlist draft like we've done with Radiohead, [redacted], Beatles, Floyd and Gizz? Only worth doing if some of the true Phans on the board are interested.

That depends. Do “The Horse” and “Silent in the Morning” count as two selections or one?
I'm gonna need you guys' help with that stuff lol
i'm sure we could help hammer out some rules.
i think all songs should be separate. "Silent in the Morning" is frequently played without "The Horse". there are some situations that would be fucked up, like somebody drafting "The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday" but then somebody else drafting "Avenu Malkenu" out from under them. would be a dick move but hey it's a draft.

Ah, but “The Horse” has never been intentionally played without “Silent in the Morning”.

What does this mean
The only two times “The Horse” has not been followed by “Silent in the Morning” were 1) when it was interrupted by a fire alarm and b) when Trey hit some sour notes and just abandoned it. Every other time, if “The Horse” is played, it segues into “Silent in the Morning” as the good lord intended.

Yeah my main criteria for combining stuff is if it's basically always played together. That sounds like an example. Is Tweezer and Reprise always that way also, I'm guessing?

phish doesn’t really have suites like gizz does.
Reprise might get played before tweezer and then they might play reprise again because why not.
Then there’s Harpua. WHY DO I KNOW THIS I DONT EVEN LISTEN TO THIS BAND OUTSIDE OF GOING TO A COUPLE SHOWS A YEAR!
