I wouldn't call it idiotic, that's pretty harsh but it is apples and oranges. Mainly because of the amount of festivals that have popped up between then and now and the type of crowd that the lineup brought vs the current lineup style.
There is one thing that is making me reconsider buying extras. It's how sure everyone was last year that it would sell out due to Radiohead and Phish, and ticket sales ended up being soft.
Just as some of you were "sure" last year, I am "sure" this year. Hmmm.
I'm pretty sure 2004 sold out pretty quickly, too.
It did. I keep forgetting about '04. I got tickets early on and never really looked back. If I remember right that was the year of 100k+. That shit was cray.
This year it won't go till late April, me thinks. No record breaking time.
Will the website be difficult? I'm so damn worried I can't freaking sleep. Seeing Paul Mccartney is a bucket list item for me. I'm worried pushing "buy" on the ticket site is going to be as fucked up difficult as it is for coachella. What do you guys think? You seem to know a lot about this fest. I have never been before.
Musictoday is one of the worst sites to buy tickets ever. I hate buying from them. (re: last years ticket fiasco where they had to take tickets off-sale for a week to fix the site).
That said, I wouldn't worry. You'll get tickets, it's just the matter of how much.
Oh and don't forget folks, the USPS delivery option gets it to you faster than UPS.
Well I'm going for the VIP pair. I have like 10 computers ready to be on this at the stroke of noon est. We had to help two friends get coachella tix cus they didn't buy in the presale and it took us almost 2 hours, meanwhile everyone is freaking out. With Paul at stake I don't think my little heart can take that.
Thanks for easing this girl's mind! Good karma to you. Hey so someone else said something about making an account, I don't see where I can do that. I'm thinking I have to do it when the tix go on sale.
Thanks for answring all my questions, you are kind.

I'm actually looking myself. Maybe Druid remembers. I honestly can't find my account.

I can't find a way to log in either. I was getting worried when I saw Druid's post because I got shut out of the pre sale and thought that might have had something to do with it. I'm still getting email updates from the site so I guess I am good to go in about three hours.

If I recall correctly you log in after tickets go on sale. You click buy tickets, or the equivalent button, and on the next screen you enter your email address.

Since the early tiers are sold out, im waiting and keeping my $ til may like the rest of the general population. Maybe theyll get nervous and throw in some nice adds to sweeten the pot
They never release figures but I suspect that Tier Four accounts for more than half of their ticket inventory. Tiers I-III are usually gone the first day, I believe.

That's what I suspected. The way I see it, the first three tiers are to lure people in, more or less. But they're still gonna make most of their ticket sales outta Tier 4.

Got my ticket Saturday at tier 2 woooop! I wouldn't be surprised if it sold out a couple weeks into May. Calling it: May 15th. You guys aren't giving this line up enough credit, have heard more of my friends say they're going this year than I've heard in quite some time.
Given the over-saturation of festivals nowadays and attendance the past few years, I have a hard time seeing it truly selling out
Im pretty sure 2011 sold out in May and this lineup is way better, as well as commercially accessable. And the saturation of festivals with this kind of lineup will draw more than it will spread IMO. IOW last year when the lineup, esp headliners, were quite polarizing, the oversaturation caused ticket sales to be soft. This year, this lineup is not polarizing at all. Pretty much the top 5 lines are mostly made up of universally loved, or highly commercially successful artists.
When comparing to Coachella (I know, I know) they sell out lightning fast, and most of it is indie or great artist that only music fanatics know about - and pulling them all together is what brings the masses of music lovers. If Bonnaroo put a lineup together like Coachella, sales would be dismal IMO. They would lose the casual fan to a fest closer to their home. Like Firefly or Governor's Ball, etc.
THIS year, however, has people coming out of the woodworks to get to Bonnaroo. People who have *thought* about it in the past, and maybe even committed only to back out because they "ran out of money" (misappropriated is more like it) or couldn't make the dates work when it got closer (deprioritized is more like it). This won't happen this year because even the most casual of music fans knows that this lineup is stunning. Truly gaudy in its blatent gluttony for great acts.
AC could have stopped at Macca and thrown down a bunch of slop with a few good ones in there and they could have sold a ton of tickets. However, on top of Macca you have Mumford and Petty. Widely recognized and loved artists. I don't have to go through the whole lineup, but other than the hardcore rockers (who won't come unless there is a headliner and several hard rock acts) and the serious jam fans (who bought tickets last year just to see phish and Umphrey's) there truly is a lot for everyone.
I stick to my prediction of selling out on or before April 25th. I will take up to 6 beer bets on this.
