Oh man Dillinger coming back would be nice. Not too big to add, either. I've been wanting to see them again since option paralysis came out, those would be great songs to hear live. Along those same lines I'm still hoping for a Deftones addition. I just found out their Nashville show is sold out so ill have to miss them. Although playing in Nashville in March is a good indicator that they won't be there.
i'm flattered!Wow! please keep in mind i attacked no fans of said bands, or any member of this thread personally. i am...truly flattered! that said, i'd like to at least state my case concerning Phil Lesh and members of The Dead never playing here again, especially since some folks were interested. In '08, Phil was moved due to Kayne's demands, from late night slot to evening slot. Have a look at the result for yourself! 2002-Phil Lesh and Friends w/Bob Weir 2003-The Dead 2004-The Dead 2005-Bob Weir & Rat Dog 2006-Phil Lesh & Friends 2007-Bob Weir & Rat Dog 2008-(Wickipedia)"Kanye West's Saturday night set, originally scheduled for the which stage, was moved to the main stage at his insistence. Mr. West was then two hours late to take the stage, despite forcing Pearl Jam to cut their legendary headlining set short by several songs, and upsetting many by cutting off Phil Lesh & Friends scheduled 4 hour set reducing the set in half."-This forced Phil to trade to a set time slot, instead of open ended late night set with no limitations. 2009-Present not a single member of the Dead. NOT ONE. i certainly don't expect everyone to care, but this was a major turning point in festival's direction.Still the best festival around? I say yes. But it is sad...in my opinion. perfect summertime festival music! that said- additions i'd like to see. Mike Patton- any lineup. Faith No More,Mondo Cane, Tomohawk, Fantomas, anything with Patton-plus he'd get on with Bjork!!- Portishead- Deftones- Chris Robinson Brotherhood/Black Crowes- Black Flag-Smashing Pumpkins-Die Antwoord- Brian Jones Town Massacre (it's a dream but hey)-Adrian Belew -OFF!-Railroad Earth-War on Drugs-Alice in Chains-Comets on Fire-Melvins-Stooges- The Wailers- Dave Brubeck Quartet- Blind Melon- and many more.

I dunno, guess that's a preference and probably has to do with what you listened to growing up. Iggy is a little before my time....saw them last year at Riot Fest and wasn't impressed. I get they are pretty iconic for the genre, but I've never been able to get into that early punk type stuff.
I thought they ended Phil's set early? If I remember this rumor correctly, Kanye was supposed to be the Which stage closer on Saturday in 2008 and would have ended at 8:30 before Pearl Jam headed the main stage with Jack Johnson before Pearl Jam. Than Kanye was moved to the What stage late night so of course he wouldn't be opening for anyone. Pearl Jam than played until 1am (they were supposed to play until 12) and that's when all shiz hit the fan. And than rumor has it Phil Lesh was asked to end his set on the Which stage so Kanye could have no interference with his set, Bonnaroo indeed ended Phils 2 set show after 1 set, and than Kanye still did not play for a few hours. Whether or not this has lead to lack of Dead performance at Bonnaroo is something only they would know.
1. Kanye didn't want his set moved because he didn't want to open for anyone. He wanted his show to be when it was dark. 2. There is no proof Phil Lesh ended his set early because of Kanye.

It was more of a bad joke. I know a lot of people were disappointed over PS. It's a personal thing, for me anyways. The Stooges aren't really The Stooges anymore. I'd still love to see them regardless.

Also...if they're so upset about all this, why have various GD related projects played Outside Lands since 2008, which is also a Superfly production? Why would they be okay with helping this company profit through one event, and not through another?
Outside Lands is in San Francisco...their hometown. That's a huge difference from playing in Podunk, Tennessee. Personally, I don't think the members of the Dead care about Bonnaroo. There's plenty of other festivals where they get love, and don't have to deal with the commercialism that Bonnaroo has now. And I know about Phil Lesh playing the next day, that's called fulfilling your contract.

Coming soon: FestivalSnob confirms Capital Cities for Forecastle.
lol you're one to talk considering you spewed a bunch of incorrect "confirmations" for both coachella and bonnaroo and trying to make people believe you had "sources" while all you did was take the info someone else PM'd you and posted it.
I will never forget a few years ago when Jugs kept on bothering me via pm for some info about additions. So I finally made him promise not to tell anyone and said Massive Attack just to see what would happen. Within 15 minutes it was all over chat and the board so I decided right then not to trust him with any actual info if it needed to be kept quiet.
I don't know much about that fest, but...Quad City DJs? As in, "COME ON RIDE THE TRAIN - AND RIDE IT" fame?
Also, the picture on the front page (scroll down - the goons covered in paint) makes me hate this festival.
Based off that picture I'd hate the fest too. Thats actually only 5% of the people at the fest. Solid lineup for a small fest in a big city, since I only live about 20 minutes away from it I use it as my warmup to Roo. What better way to get prepared for the Tennessee heat than 97 degree heat and 90% humidity in Houston
You're just too young to grasp how stylin' I really was. All the boys wanted to do me when I was 5. Actually the girls did too. My haircut was confusing.

So the contention is now that the Grateful Dead merely hate the parcel of land upon which Bonnaroo is held? Wouldn't you think that if they really held this ridiculous, petty and immature grudge, they'd hold it aginst the festival organizers? You know, the ones who forced poor Phil Lesh off the stage because of mean old Kanye? And if they did hold it against the people who run the fest, why would they play other fests held by those same people? The money all goes to the same place. The rap about SF being their hometown doesn't play - it's not like Outside Lands is their only avenue for playing shows in SF. Also, did Bruce Hornsby not get the memo about the Grateful Dead family totally hating Bonnaroo now?
Again, what this comes down to is simple - either the members of the Grateful Dead are a bunch of petty, immature, hateful, foolish old men who are still upset about 75 minutes or so of lost stage time from over five years ago, or the whole thing is ridiculous.
Also, please list these festivals where members of the Dead play that lack commercialism. Alternatively, explain when, exactly, Bonnaroo gained this commercialism, and how such commercialism is evident.
Get off of your high horse. Never said anything about hate, just said don't think they care about Bonnaroo. For a lot of these bands, it's just another festival to play. Regarding San Francisco, I don't know Phil Lesh's thought process, but I imagine the average human being would prefer to play a large fest that just got started in their hometown over some festival they've already played in the middle of a field in Anytown, USA. These guys have been touring non-stop for over what, 50 years? It's just another festival now.
And commercialism at Bonnaroo, it's all over the place with the sponsorships. I'm sure it got started when 100,000 Dead fans crashed the gate.

I have to agree that if Phil held this grudge this long it does start to make him look worse than Kanye. It will have been 5 Bonnaroo's (actual unit) this summer and that's a lot of time to heal butthurt. I would like to see The Dead or Furthur at the farm (mostly selfish reason - my ride who brought me in 04 said she had had enough on sunday afternoon and we left) at least one more time before they can't do it any more. They are selling tickets for Furthur shows for rediculous prices now - so there's a feather in the primadonna cap FWIW.
Here's to hoping that they are just planning some big return in the near future with lots of the hype that they had lost by 2008. They are playing really well now and tour quite a bit and still do a few festivals but in reality they are old men and Tennessee is pretty warm in June - so maybe it's a preference thing. Perhaps they are not in love with Bonnaroo and it's just easier to set tours up without worrying about the big Roo and they figure maybe they'll just catch it again when they can.

Then your point is irrelevant to his point, which is that the Kanye situation is completely unrelated to the reason why Phil or anyone else in The Dead family (except Bruce Hornsby) has not played Bonnaroo since 2008.

Kewl. Did you just read my post to his reply and responded, or did you go back another page, where I pointed out that them playing in SF might have to do with them being from SF?
Regarding Kanye, I'm pretty sure that Phil Lesh was ticked about the situation that night, and said he's never playing Bonnaroo again, and then folded his arms and huffed . However, I'm sure nowadays it has more to do with them not really caring about Bonnaroo and don't want to go out of their way to play the festival.

Yes, The Dead are from SF. The thesis of this discussion was whether The Dead holds a grudge against Bonnaroo, which would logically be a grudge against the promoters of Bonnaroo rather than the farm itself. Your last sentence is rational.

If you listen to the archive.org stream of the show Phil was at least irritated, he did not say anything about never coming back. That being said it is pretty glaring that we are five years without a member back at this point.

reminds me of that time that I convinced that I had the lineup, sent him a list and he checked his "sources" and said it looked legit. when I had completely made it up.

All festivals have commercialism, you wouldnt be able to through a festival without commercialism. Ticket sales alone do not provide enough revenue to cover the expenses of a festival and definitely not enough to make a profit and yes, the promoters do this to make money. It's not a charity. Bonnaroo may have more commercialism than a 30k person festival but that is because it is 3x bigger so it has 3x more commercialism. I have some family friends who throw a 3k person, 2 day festival in Southern Missouri and they too have a lot of sponsors. Even with the sponsors and "commercialism", they often just break even or lose a few hundred dollars.
Turtles are, actually quite sexy, if you think about it. I’m getting an erection just thinking about turtles. No, not a stripper named turtles, that’s not funny. Actual turtles.

Except Bruce Hornsby and Warren Haynes (to an extent). The concept that Phil and The Dead have a grudge against Bonnaroo is a tired discussion that never had any actual source, and was disproven when Furthur played Outside Lands. Yes, The Dead are from San Francisco, but the alleged grudge should be against the entity that violently yanked him off the stage, breaking his hip in the process (this is how rumors start).
