It kinda bothers me with the lack of jam bands. I went to the first 5 bonnaroos and it was all about jam bands, bluegrass, classic rock. I hope they can atleast sign a few. Further, string cheese, Keller, hell ill take some rusted root at this point
This bonnaroo is going to be awesome. So much great music. Lets stay positive people; it is bonnaroo. There are lots of band we all wish were there and there are lots of pleasant surprises then we still have the additions to look forward too. I honestly believe this may be the best bonnaroo yet.
Talked to the tech guys at the YMSB show last night. They had heard nothing about playing at Roo.
Bummer love that band. I saw them the first time at the Willie Nelson picnic in 03 I was very quaked up and looked at my buddy and said man they don't have a drummer like four songs in.
Think of it this way. They add three of any of those bands and there aren't going to be a ton of people who suddenly decide to buy tickets. The people who want to see those bands already have their tickets to Waka or whatever.
Now if they add stuff that complements the current lineup it will convince some people who were on the fence to buy the tickets.
Now if the festival is selling on a really good pace and they expect it to sellout we will probably get nothing major in terms of adds.
if they add stuff that complements the current lineup, how would that convince people who are on the fence to buy tickets? if it complements the lineup, wouldn't they have to already like the lineup?
I think that since this has been addressed by Capps in an interview (he said he didn't realize the lack of jam) that the additions will feature at least two jam friendly bands or more.
I'm predicting Grace Potter, Les Claypool or Galactic. Nothing strictly jamband though.
This makes me feel a little better. Atleast they are listening to the post lineup gripes, as they should every year. It really wouldn't take much to put this lineup over the top either. Galactic would satisfy the jamband problem, and strengthen the lack of funk this year. There's quality but not much quantity compared to the last few years. Same goes for adding a bluegrass band like Yonder Mountain, Infamous Stringdusters, Devil Makes Three, etc. I'm still hoping for atleast one "jamband" that covers multiple genres ala SCI, Umphreys, or moe. Never had a bad time at any of their shows even when I'm not familar with their material.
And for the people arguing that Bonnaroo is just growing into a more musically diverse festival, you have no idea what you're talking about. Bonnaroo has always embraced all genres of music. My first year was in 2003 and they had bands like The Roots, Neil Young, STS9, The Wailers, MMJ, Mix Master Mike, Jack Johnson, Bela Fleck, Allman Brothers...is there a musical genre that isn't covered on that list? The festival has become more successful so they've been able to add more bands and grab more big names, it's that simple
Let's hope bonnaroo is a little more creative with their additions than what would be essentially the same galactic set as 2011 with cult of personality thrown in at the end

Bullshitt. That set was blistering with Trombone Shorty. You were obviously fanning yr ass at camp.

That was a great set. I was in the front row. I loved it. But I don't particularly feel the need to see it again
Also, I'm fairly sure trombone shorty wasn't there. You were obviously fanning yr ass at camp.

Trombone Shorty was in '09, cyrus neville in '10, corey glover in '11. He may be thinking of Boe Money since he's been with them the last 3 times and also plays the trombone. Regardless, you would never see the same show twice, especially at Bonnaroo. In '05 they had members of the Meters, Kermit Ruffins, Boyd Tinsley, and a bunch of others doing traditional mardi gras music. In '07 they had like 8 different rappers each do a couple songs and then they all freestyled to Kashmir at the end.
Anytime I find someone new to the festival, Galactic is the first band I recommend. This is the first time I've heard someone say they don't care to see them again
Shorty was '09. Sorry. I do feel the need to see them again again. Always a great set, never the same. Roo house band for 10 yrs. Here's hoping they stay put.
the new mastersounds, here come the mummies, and the rest of the meters would do me just fine
New mastersounds would be sick! I've never seen them live, so i've been hoping they would get booked the last couple years. Have they played Bonnaroo before? I saw the Funky Meters in '03 and that was fun, but I didn't think The Meters sounded that great when they played with Dr. John. I only heard the first few songs, so maybe I'm wrong.
A couple other funky bands I'd like to see added: Greyboy Allstars or anything with Karl Denson, Mighty Imperials, Budos Band, Dirty Dozen, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears. And if we're not getting Galactic, one of Stanton moore's side projects will do just fine. I agree with whoreshack though, they are the house band of Bonnaroo.

Those would all be great, and I would love to see Garage-a-trois added as a Stanton side project.
Does anyone have any suggestions for good jambands this year at the Roo ? I went in 05 and 2010 and both were great. Looking for bands that kill it and really can jam. I hate pretty lights and dubstep.
Any suggestions like Phish, Dead, Panic, P Groove, Black Crowes, Allmans etc just a few of my fav bands are there any at the Roo similar to this that I should check out this year I don't know a lot of the bands playing this year.
