I think there's usually a thread like this every year so I apologize if someone already started it, I just couldn't find it.
Every year (Roo or not) I allow myself to add a couple comfort items to my camping rig. In 2011, I had to replace almost everything I had (it all aged out at once, basically) so I couldn't acquire everything I wanted for Roo. So this year, I get to pick and choose a few fun/frivolous things. My additions:
The Pocket Chair:www.asseenontvus.com/pocket-chair/ BIG thanks to whomever originally suggested this on here. I have compressed discs in my back and standing all day in Centeroo ended up with me needing 6 months of physical therapy and missing a month of work after Roo '11. I couldn't sit on the ground because I was also severely allergic to the dust, and sitting on the ground when your discs are hurting doesn't doo much good anyway, so it just really sucked. This thing is gonna save my life this year.
A privvy and a Luggable Loo I can deal with the portos, honestly. But there were SO MANY times when I was chilling at camp and had to make a 15min trek out to the nearest portos just to pee. It was just a bummer, and it made me not want to chug water (which...you totally SHOULD chug water). So this is one of those unnecessary extravagances that I really look forward to.
An all-metal French Press Again, I could buy coffee, but having it RIGHT THERE in the morning sounds like heaven.
And I picked this up last year just for camping and storms, and I look forward to having it at Roo....

Big thing for us is some sort of new sleeping apparatus. Our air mattress now has a hole in it thanks to our cat and his too many claws, and since we weren't crazy about it anyway we figured it's a good time for something new. We were thinking about maybe trying a cot instead of an air mattress this time around...maybe something like this: www.amazon.com/Kamp-Rite-FC321-Double-Kwik-Cot/dp/B004M0YY0G
I'm also getting tempted to pick up a new Camelbak, so that might happen too. Even though I just bought one (non-Camelbak-brand) last year...
www.amazon.com/Alite-Monarch-Butterfly-Chair-Black/dp/B003RLA4O6 I picked it up quite a bit cheaper than this, but it's a nice and sturdy, super lightweight chair. It only has 2 legs so you gotta be just a tad bit careful not to lean back to far, but I tried it out and it was actually a challenge to fall backwards.

Where'd you find a good deal on this chair, if you don't mind sharing? I've been looking for a lower price on it.
Also wanted to share my favorite pocket chair parody. I'll probably end up buying a couple of these but this cracks me up :

So I've done Roo the past two years, Firefly last year, this will be my third Roo. Finally have a good paying job where I can afford to drop money on things that will actually be beneficial. SO FAR I have - a new tent - a new EZ up - a new camelbak - a new portable grill (most of this I found on the Discount Thread so cheers for that !!) is there anything I'm missing?? Does anyone have one thing they won't go to a fest without b/c it helps that much? Thanks for the info!

Gander Mountain Tracker Cot because I didn't realize my air mattress had holes in it until we got to 'Roo last year. Ended up sharing a queen size mattress with my flailing friend, and that barely stayed inflated because the battery pump we had was awful. Lesson learned
linana I just checked and I got it for 35 back in November from Amazon. I saw these for the first time at Forecastle last year and kept my eye out on Amazon, REI and a couple other sites til it was on sale. Seeing how the weather is starting to warm up, you may be hard pressed to find one on sale, but you never know.
The mega-tent I ordered will be nice but I think the most useful addition to my gear will be the Goal Zero Nomad 7 solar panels for my backpack
I'd be very interested in how the Nomad works out for you! I've heard some mixed reviews but man, that seems like it would come in super handy at Roo. I was torn between that and a power inverter in 2011 and ended up having decision fatigue and got neither.
I bought a Coleman battery charger last year from amazon and was very popular at camp. It runs on D batteries and charged phones and ipods throughout the weekend.

From what I've heard, the biggest complaint is that the iPhone won't recognize the power source without a converter (which I already own).
Also, I'm in the market for a new car and the first thing I consider is the ride down to roo and how much camping gear it can hold. I can't decide if that's awesome or a little sad. Right now the new Honda Fit is the front runner.

This looks pretty sweet. Does it charge your phone all the way? I feel like battery chargers I have tried in the past only get about halfway or two thirds charged.

To be honest I don't remember if I bothered charging all the way or not because there was a line with camp mates and neighbors using it. At one point I threw it in my backpack and charged my phone during an afternoon show.

Oh cool, carrying it around with you is a really good idea.

Brilliant! And BOGO! Would it work to put two of these next to each other for a more balanced squat?

I feel like I might be adding that Coleman battery charger to my list now...and I'm also very intrigued by the butterfly chair, although I cannot for the life of me envision how I am supposed to stay upright in something with only two legs! Is there like...some trick to it that I'm missing?
They fold up into a small laptop-bag-like method with a strap.
I haven't tried it, but I have this Coleman one on my wish list. It turns into a poncho too. I just haven't decided if it's something I want to lug around all day (it is small, but not quite as small and easy to carry as a pocket chair or butterfly chair)

As someone who drained the car battery charging a phone in the past it was a no brainer. Keep in mind it runs on D batteries which are heavy if weight is a consideration when you are packing.
First time poster here, but this is going to be my third roo... This is kind of the opposite of new additions, but I go more minimalist each time... I just don't want to bother with all that... my first year I had a tent and an easy up, grill, tables, etc... second year, didn't bother with the grill or tables, just used the cooler as a table. this year I'm going in a group of three- none of us are bringing tents. We're going to basically hang 3 hammocks from 2 well anchored sawhorses, set under a large canopy. Tested and works great. For sleeping and privacy, we're hanging tapestries. Just keep everything else in the car. The way I see it, why bother trying to sleep in a tent that's hot enough to cook you at 8 in the morning. Anybody else ever used or seen a similar setup?

Pics? Very interested in saw horse and hammock setup. It seems the saw horse wouldn't suspend my hammock far enough above the ground.

I can vouch for the butterfly chair, I've used it the past two Bonnaroos. I am a big guy (6-4, 250) and it works even for me. It can be a tad tricky when first sitting down in it but it's amazing how comfortable it is for about the size of a giant burrito. I've tried pocket chairs, small foldups etc and it's by far the best of them all.
I was excited about the Coleman Battery charger since I've been trying to find a way to charge my phone in Tent Only but the reviews are less than inspiring. Last year I had several single chargers that didn't work at all. I have had little results with solar chargers as well since you have to leave them out where they can get stolen or they power up all day only to charge your phone halfway.

Ya I'd love pics as well, been trying to figure out how to setup a hammock under my shade but so far no go.

For the past 2 Roos, and Voodoo, and Midtown, and various other fests, I've used this: My Favorite Concert Blankie and it has been WONDEROUS. A bit of a tip for Roo though - it gets filthy throughout the weekend. So as you go, gotta get used to giving it a good shake after each sit session, and then back at camp. It's a bit water resistant too, so if the grass in the WHAT field is damp, it keeps your butt dry. It's SO GREAT. I highly recommend. AND if you get the ones at BB&B, you can use a mailer coup and get it for $15. And they come in other colors/designs too.

Thanks for the rec! This one is pretty. How small does it fold up? Like, would it fit in a backpack (camelbak daystar) or do you just carry it?
Boom! UPS delivered a monstrous Amazon box today...
EDIT: yes... that's a pocket chair
I invested in that Coleman tent fan last year and it's pretty worthless. The light is a neat addition to have, but seriously the fan barely moved air right in front of it never mind through out the entire tent. ... And are you planning to share your tent with anyone? That's massive.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
