I have to admit, I was unfamiliar with many of the likely "Thursday" artists this year, but now that my ticket is bought I've begun my prep work. All I can say is wow! Already confirmed: Allen Stone, Alt-J , Death Grips, Father John Misty, Frank Turner, Futurebirds, Haim, Japandroids, Lee Fields & The Expressions, Sea Wolf, Trixie Whitley, and Twenty|One|Pilots. I think Django Django, Purity Ring, and Milo Greene are also likely to be Thursday sets.
If this holds up I think this is the best Thursday lineup ever. Oh the conflicts! Hopefully we'll see many of them on the Sonic Stage as well.
I duno 2008 will be hard to beat for me. battles mgmt vampire weekend dark star and lez zepp. it was also my first roo so im sure that played a part in the awesomeness.

Last year was the Thursday I saw the most bands which was 8. Rubblebucket, Mariachi el Bronx, Orgone, Moon Taxi, White Denim, SOJA, Alabama Shakes, and Big Gigantic.
It's got to be the National in 2007 or Passion Pit in 2009. I think the National show following R & G gets the nod, especially because that was the only good day of weather for the entire 2007 festival.
I'm gonna go ahead and cast a vote for 2007, my first Roo.
The Black Angels, Mute Math, Clutch, The National and Rodrigo Y Gabriela. Pretty solid.
That Rod y Gab show was what got me into them, and I wasn't even there. Got in late, and it's all people were talking about that night. Their last two Roo shows were two of my favorites, but my friends say I missed the best one.
Last year was my best Thursday: Cave Singers, Orgone, Moon Taxi, Kendrick Lamar, Alabama Shakes. Funny how Kendrick was the only show all weekend I didn't enjoy, and he's blown up bigger than any other artist from last year
Alt-J and Japandroids are two of the bands I am most excited about for Roo this year (especially droids). I hope they don't conflict. I also want to see Death Grips, but I don't care if I am close to the stage for that one, as I don't want to die.

FYI a good number of those bands likely won't actually play Thursday. A lot of them just use Thursday as a placeholder for the fest's dates. Futurebirds and Japandroids are two bands I'm fairly certain won't play Thursday. Would bet at least one or two others from that list will end up on other days as well

Yeah I also don't think there is any way Lee Fields plays Thursday.
This year is definitely shaping up to be one of the best. For me, 2011 was chaotic in the best kind of way. I went from Wavves to Best Coast, caught half of The Drums and half of Band of Skulls, watched most of Twin Shadow, a couple songs by Sleigh Bells, and the tail end of The Walkmen. Then I did everything I could to stay awake for Deerhunter, but after about three songs all the driving and lack of sleep caught up to me and I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer. Also, I believe Childish Gambino was on one of the other stages that I missed.
Last year, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. into White Denim into Phantogram was pretty awesome. So was Here We Go Magic into Miike Snow into The Dodos in 2010.
That Here We Go Magic show was phenomenal. What a way to start the fest. I followed it up with Local Natives and was completely overwhelmed with amazingness. That back-to-back is one of my all time favorite Bonnaroo memories.

Thursday nights have become the most packed moments at Bonnaroo and I expect this year to be no different! Two years ago, The Knux were steller on Thursday and last year, Alabama Shakes were on point as well.

That Lez Zep show was something. Not good, but something. Slop City.
2010 ranks highest fer me, then '11 followed by last year. I'm gonna have to listen to some of these acts this year to get an idea of who to catch. Eh, maybe I'll just wander around and see what strikes my fancy.

I just wished thursdays were not so crowded (Hint open up other stages hint)
This is my biggest problem with Bonnaroo. Which is actually a great thing that this is the worst part, but I digress.
I know they are trying to avoid having the festival grow into a week long affair but I feel like if they had some kind of act on the Which stage that was opposed just like everything else on Thursday. You could incorporate participation by having people vote (on Facebook or their own site or something) on which acts, who are already scheduled for thursday (this would be hard if the window from schedule announcement-> festival was short) to play on it.
This way you avoid having any kind of headliner discussion, and people who can't be there on Thursday aren't going to miss anything they wouldn't miss already. Additionally you don't have to worry about the logistics of opening up the What section of Centeroo and you can still keep it closed off.
Cost of operating the stage is the only legitimate reason I see that they don't do something about the crowds Thursday.
I think the easiest thing to do to cut down on the crowding is open up the What stage field. Don't have any bands play, just let people into that part of the grounds.
This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.

That Sleigh Bells show was the biggest and craziest Thursday night show I have ever been at. I don't think anyone expected that many people to crowd in on what I think is the smallest of the tents. I had never even heard of them but we stayed just because of all of the people showing up.
Part of the problem is that bonnaroo insists on scheduling thursdays with blovks of 15-30 minutes where there is NO music happening. This draws everyone to the stage the next biggest hyped acg is playing. Phantogram was just as packex. I was hanging from the support beams for the sides of the tent, for fesr of being crushed sgainst them.
