It would appear that 'Roo has made a pretty interesting change to their wristband policy for 2013. This year, they are asking that everyone have their wristband on by the time they reach the tollbooth. This will be my first year on the farm, but from what I've already heard/read, this seems to be the exact opposite of the previous wristband policy. They are also requiring all attendees to register their wristbands online this year. I found all of this info by clicking on the 'Register Wristband' button on the Bonnaroo iPhone app.
For 2013 we ask that all Bonnaroovians apply their wristbands before arriving to the festival tollbooths. Please check out our instructional video here.
Each festival-goer is required to register his or her wristband. Do not register someone else's wristband, but love them enough to remind them to register.
For any questions or problems regarding the registration process, please email us at bonnaroo@intellifestival.com

I am with you nthingtolose, though I imagine apply means to put on in this case. It could be more clear by saying put on your wristband. I sent them an email to the email provided to ask for clarification.
As a toll booth volunteer last year, we were definitely asked to put on their wristbands for everyone so they wouldnt be too loose. I think they were registered to the buyer by default so sometimes we had several wristbands whose names were different than the person actually wearing them. When we scan them, we can see the name though...so I guess if you're linked with Facebook and whatnot, we'd make sure the proper person had the right wristband on, when possible. If their clasp was broken or there was any hint they mighta been sneaking in/stolen/etc, we'd get the supervisor for help and often they'd have to pull over and wait in line to talk to people in charge in the trailer (I assume get a replacement or buy a new 1). Sometimes this line could get pretty long.
If registration really is required, I assume they'll make it very clear and send the info with wristbands and announce it better online (Facebook near shipment date maybe). We'll see.

This is how they did it at Coachella last year (my only year at Coachella). It was nice because I got to put it on my wrist looser than the staff usually does.
I don't see how this will really speed things up OR slow things down, they are still going to have to inspect them when you get there, sooo......
Look/tug on it to make sure it's secure as opposed to putting it on from scratch definitely saves a little bit of time. Some of the volunteers were not good at putting them on.
I am 95% sure that registration was required last year. Applying the wristbands before the festival is new though.
This. But there is no reason why the toolbooth workers should have to do that each time someone rolls up. Also I bet you anyone who was a dummy and didn't register will be able to fix it at the office they have. But it will suck for you, you'll def. have to wait much longer on the line, and you might get separated from your group

How about just NOT sendin wristbands and giving us cool ass tickets like we used to get...(Man I sound like the old guy saying "Get off my lawn")
QFT
I get that no tickets helps make things "greener", but I'll donate another $10 to the greening initiative if it means I can have a ticket! To Bonnaroo's credit though, they did offer the "Souvenir Ticket" for purchase at the merch store for a nominal fee, maybe $10? I picked one up last year to satiate my need for a ticket collection. So I guess disregard my complaint as long as they offer the souvenir tickets for purchase
I worked toll booth last year and after putting on 300 + wristbands ... My thumbs were so numb ! And so many wristbands fell apart, which we had to reassemble. I think it's a little strange you MUST register your wristband. That may allow to keep ticket scalpers at bay, but Bonnaroo never has big issues selling out and scalpers charging insane prices. Most eBay tix around the end of May go to normal price. Or those with extra tix getting rid of them along side of the highway / entrance roads.

All the people that put their wristbands on before they got their probably inspired this to happen. Fix that problem, but create a new one....more people wearing theirs early will result in more lost wristbands i would guess.
