Pharrell stopped singing and sulked for a while. Dre never quit.
Pharrell sulked? He never stopped performing. Even when his voice was completely gone, he still stayed actively engaged with the audience.
I've watched it twice. He quit singing on more than one occasion. He had a backing track. The only difference was Pharrell acknowledged his problems a lot more. Dre only said once during one of the Love Below songs that he had blew his voice earlier.

I'm ok with the part where he lost his voice because of a dust storm. It's also 2014 and I don't mind the backing track.
What I do appreciate is an artist who goes out there and gives it everything he's got - from start to finish.

I'm not hating on Pharrell at all, that was still a great show. Maybe he handled it a little better than Dre did, but I still think you're being way too harsh on him.
Edit: It's really hard for me to not spam the world with my love for this set, esp. cuz EDM usually isn't my genre so my love for this is unprecedented. But this was heavenly. I'll try to restrain myself. Also paging SilentEyedStorm because I know she was interested in this as well.
AHHH. THANK YOU FOR THIS. I'm loving it all over again. Listening to it now while I do homework and it's just so damn good.
Judging from the stream, I thought Outkast was a bit lacking, but not nearly as bad as everyone is making them out to be. Big Boi certainly upstaged Andre, IMO. It started strong for the first 30 minutes or so, but faltered immediately once they got into the solo stuff. Janelle Monae was the saving grace of that middle portion. The Future songs were so bad I had to skip through shortly after the start of the third song. Then by that point, the flow of the set was off, which meant they had to rush through the best stuff and cut The Whole World entirely.
That ending was just so anti-climactic, I can understand the disappointment. I'm guessing before this weekend, they'll regroup, keep what worked and cut what didn't, and hopefully Andre will work on some vocal exercises. It's only their second show in 11 years, cut 'em some slack. I have faith that this isn't indicative of what the whole tour will be like.

Last year I walked into the Sahara for a few minutes, just to check it out, and the air in there was fucking gross. Felt like I was breathing in the audience's collective sweat. Its hot as fuck too, I wonder how many people pass out in there every week. #oldperson

I was actually thinking the same thing. Indio is really hot, and they're packed in so tight, and probably a large % of people that would use most irresponsibly end up in there.
I watched the first five minutes of Pharrell last night. I dunno if it was just the feed, but he sounded terrible. It was like his mic was cutting in and out, he was out of tune, and the backing track was louder than he was. Judging by some peoples love for that set, it got better?
I can't wait to hear about how terrible Andre is for the next 4-5 months.

Yeah it was bad at first but he definitely got it worked out. Once he started getting to "the hits" and bringing out guests it was an awesome set.
