Jesus Christ. Wouldn't you expect the Atlanta crowd to be the most into Outkast of any crowd? Even if some objective observer (which Monae is not) scientifically declared the Counterpoint crowd to have been "better," so fucking what? They should be. Making this about Coachella is stupid.
If Eminem had played Detroit right after Bonnaroo and come out and said "Bonnaroo could learn a lesson from Detroit!" you wouldn't have given it a fucking second thought.
Yes it was expected. I said going in that the show would be even better than the Coachella shows. I'm just happy that it really was. Why do you think Janelle posted what she did? Because it was something being talked about and she shared her opinion on it. Why anyone would start a debate about it? No idea. It's not really debatable.
So when I see a band live, and they say thank you Cleveland, you really rocked hard, we thought Cincinatti rocked hard last night but you rocked way harder, they're not just telling me what I want to hear?
No, this isn't the same situation. There was previous discussion here about how the Coachella shows were lacking something and that the crowd seemed dead. I watched both Coachella shows, Outkast never gave any props at all to that crowd. This show they did several times. Then Janelle said what she said and that made it obvious to me that they had issues with that crowd. Of course playing at home had a lot to do with it. Counterpoint probably should have been their first show back, but I'm glad they had Coachella as a warm up.
She may well have been telling the truth for all I know or care. My question is why did you post that in the Coachella thread in the first place?
I am sick of negative people who just sit around trying 2 plot my downfall... Why???? I understand if people don't like me because I like me or if people think tight clothes look gay or people say I run my mouth to much, But this Bonnaroo thing is the worst insult I've ever had in my life. This is the most offended I've ever been... this is the maddest I ever will be. I'm typing so fucking hard I might break my fucking Mac book Air!!!!!!!! Call me any name you want.... arrogant, conceited, narcissistic, racist, metro, fag whatever you can think of.... BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN'T GIVE MY ALL! NEVER SAY I DIDN'T GIVE MY ALL! THIS SHOWS NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY TO BE GOOD AT SOMETHING THERE WILL BE PEOPLE THERE TO LIE ABOUT YOU AND BRING YOU DOWN! LIKE WAYNE SAYS PLEASE DON'T SHOOT ME DOWN CAUSE I'M FLYING! I'M FUCKING HURT BY THIS ONE. ALL I CARE ABOUT ARE THE FANS. JUST SAY THIS OUT LOUD IN A ROOM FULL OF PEOPLE, "KANYE DOESN'T CARE ABOUT GIVING A GOOD PERFORMANCE." CAN ANYONE HONESTLY SAY THAT ????????? HAS ANYONE EVEN TAKEN THE TIME TO AT LEAST DO THE MATH??? BONNAROO SHOULD HAVE RELEASED A STATEMENT IN MY DEFENSE BUT SINCE THEY HAVEN'T LET'S BREAK DOWN THE WALLS ON THIS TRUMAN SHOW AND LET YOU KNOW WHAT REALLY OCCURRED!!! FOR OVER A MONTH WE WENT BACK AND FORTH ON WETHER OR NOT WE COULD EVEN FIT MY STAGE AT THE FESTIVAL. ONE DAY THEY WOULD SAY YES... WE'D SEND THEM OUR SPECS THEN THEY THEY'D SAY OK... THEN THEY WOULD SEND SPECS BACK THAT DIDN'T FIT THE STAGE. WE WERE OBVIOUSLY DEALING WITH FUCKING IDIOTS WHO DIDN'T REALLY HAVE THE CAPACITY TO REALLY PUT ON THIS SHOW PROPERLY. THEY TRIED 2 GIVE ME A TIME SLOT WERE IT WAS STILL LIGHT OUTSIDE ... I HAVE A FUCKING LIGHT SHOW DUMB ASS, IT'S NOT CALLED GLOW IN THE DARK FOR NO REASON SQUID BRAINS! MY PEOPLE WORKED OUT A COMPROMISED STAGE PLOT AND A 3AM TIME SLOT AND I AGREED. FAST FOWARD TO THE DAY OF THE SHOW. MY PRODUCTION MANAGER TRIED TO LOAD IN FOR 24 HOURS BEFORE I WENT ON STAGE BUT THE FESTIVAL WOULDN'T ALLOW US TO DO ANYTHING UNTILL PEARL JAM LEFT THE STAGE. PEARL JAM ENDED ONE HOUR LATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT THAT POINT WE'RE RACING AGAINST THE SUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AT 4:20AM DON COMES BACK 2 THE BUS AND TELLS ME, " IT WOULD TAKE 45 MORE MINUTES TO PUT ALL YOUR PYRO IN!" I SAY I HAVE TO GET OUT THERE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE . I HIT THE STAGE AND PEOPLE HAD BEEN THROWING SHIT ON THE STAGE AND HAD ACTUALLY HIT THE JANE SCREEN WITH, I GUESS BOTTLES OR SOMETHING AND HAD BROKEN MY FUCKING SCREEN. REMEMBER WHEN YOU WERE A SHORTY AND WATER WOULD HIT THE TV?????? WHEN I GOT 2 "THROUGH THE WIRE" I STEPPED ON THE FRONT PART OF MY STAGE AND THERE WAS SO MUCH LIQUID ON THE STAGE I COULDN'T MOVE WITHOUT SLIPPING. I HAD TO ADJUST MY WHOLE PERFORMANCE STYLE BECAUSE OF IT. A FEW MORE SONGS IN AND THE SONG WAS ON IT'S WAY UP.. I CUT A FEW SONGS FROM THE SET BECAUSE I WANTED PEOPLE 2 EXPERIENCE STRONGER WHILE THERE WAS STILL SOME DARKNESS TO PERFORM IT IN. I'VE STRUGGLED WITH STRONGER FROM IT'S CONCEPTION. REMEMBER LAST SUMMER WHEN I CANCELED SOME TV APPEARANCES. IT WAS BECAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO PERFORM STRONGER IN THE DAYTIME. ANYONE WHO CAME TO THE GLOW TOUR CAN UNDERSTAND WHY I WANTED PEOPLE TO SEE IT PROPERLY. IT BROKE MY HEART THAT I COULDN'T GIVE THESE FANS STRONGER IN IT'S GREATEST FORM... BY THE TIME I GOT TO STRONGER IT WAS DAYTIME AND IT BROKE MY HEART. I'M SORRY TO EVERYONE THAT I DIDN'T HAVE THE ABILITY 2 GIVE THE PERFORMANCE I WANTED TO. I'M SORRY... SOMETIMES I GO 2, 3 DAYS W/O SLEEP WORKING ON MY PERFORMANCE... I HAVE TO ICE MY KNEES AFTER EVERY SHOW AND THEY HURT WHEN I WALK THROUGH THE AIRPORT... HAVING AN EXPENSIVE STAGE CUTS MY PAYDAY IN HALF... CALL ME WHAT YOU WANT BUT NEVER SAY I DIDN'T GIVE MY ALL!!!

To be fair, the Atlanta music community was very aware of the situation with the coachella crowd and the criticism of Outkast. I heard it discussed around town in the weeks after Coachella week 1, and also numerous times in the counterpoint camp ground.
The counterpoint crowd made it a point to be bonkers. It helped that Outkast put on a flawless set with tons of oldies.
Yes it was expected. I said going in that the show would be even better than the Coachella shows. I'm just happy that it really was. Why do you think Janelle posted what she did? Because it was something being talked about and she shared her opinion on it. Why anyone would start a debate about it? No idea. It's not really debatable.
Yet you posted it here rather than the Counterpoint thread.
I realize i'm a bit late to the party, but I thought I would give my input as a Roo veteran who just experienced his first Coachella.
To start, i'll just say I had my expectations in check for Coachella. I expected a mass of spoiled LA socialites just trying to be a part of the "scene" and didn't care so much about the music, along with a production/experience that is top notch. Well...the experience more or less met my expectations. The crowd wasn't as insufferable as I had anticipated, but the vibe definitely was "off". Everyone was incredibly friendly and having a great time, but it was also an extremely young (as in high school young) crowd. However, the crowd really wasn't that bad...sure there were girls taking selfies here and there and our bro neighbors brought dumbbells with them to do curls during beer pong (serious), but the energy at the shows was great (most notably the Sahara tent) and you could tell the performers were feeding off the crowd, with some exceptions (*cough* Outkast). That said, I'll go over the bulleted pros/cons:
Pros:
- It's very "California" - The scenery. The backdrop of palm trees overshadowed by majestic mountains is something to behold, and it is one of the more captivating festival sites I've seen. - The many little things that really add to the experience. The moon man moving around the fest; the igloo tent; the big balloon "loops" across the festival...very creative and interesting to look at. - The Sahara Tent. I've been to Ultra, Tomorrowworld, Counterpoint, the Groove Cruise, and countless other "EDM" shows...but this tent had the most state of the art production of any event perhaps outside of perhaps Bassnectar's most recent New Year's Eve show. The setup they have in there is incredible and really adds to the experience in a major way. Alesso had the set of the weekend for me, and Glitch Mob wasn't far behind. - The festival layout. All the stages/tents were right next to each other, so walking from one end of the fest to the other takes 5 minutes tops. There was a little bit of sound bleed, most notably between the two stages, but a decent compromise considering the close proximity of everything. - The surprise guests. This is one thing where Coachella really destroys Roo. Pharell brought out Jay-Z, Usher, Busta Rhymes, and several other guests for example. I know this is something Roo will never be able to compete with based on geography, but it's still worth noting.
Cons:
- It's very "California". - The cop presence was shocking. Fully uniformed cops were everywhere and squad cars were constantly crawling the campgrounds. I'm glad I decided to have a relatively sober weekend or else this could have really freaked me out. Also caused the corn activities to be very under the radar compared to most other fests. Felt very "family friendly". To me this was a bit disappointing, as I enjoy people watching and the people watching wasn't half as fun as most other fests. - Related to people watching, the attire was mostly dull. It seemed that everyone, more specifically the women were focused on having the "coachella look"; the faux-hippie get-up with the oversized hats and sundresses. Don't get me wrong they looked good but it was less an expression of their personality and more of trying to fit a certain look, which just got to me after a while. - The main stage was underwhelming. I think the What Stage really captures the scale and brevity of "F*CK YEAH THIS IS THE MAIN STAGE B*TCHES" with it being a massive stage in a completely separate part of the fest. At Coachella it just looked like an average stage and it was right alongside all the other areas. For a fest known for it's high production, I was definitely underwhelmed by this. - The reduced sense of community. Don't get me wrong I still got a bit of a "we're all in this together" vibe, but it was much reduced compared to Roo. Sure there's camping, but there's just as many people getting shuttled in and feels a little more like a series of concerts with carnival-type amusements rather than a communal experience. - Lack of late nights, obviously.
That's mostly it; i'm sure I forgot some things but I think I captured the essence of it. Overall I'd go back if enough of my friends wanted to go but it's not an "I CAN'T WAIT TO GO BACK" feeling as I have with Roo. Hopefully this post helps some of you decide whether or not the trip out to Indio is worth it
