Weekend 2 is the way to go. Less crowded, the reviews are in, and you have an extra week to review the schedule. This is the first year I have to go to Weekend 1. Not too thrilled about it.

I've heard Weekend 2 is less crowded several times now, but I can't figure out for the life of me why that would be. Both weekends sell-out relatively quickly. Are people suggesting Coachella sells less tickets to Weekend 2? Or maybe that there is a significant number of no shows for Weekend 2?
Are you sure? I seem to remember weekend 1 selling out in less than an hour and Weekend 2 selling out in about a day
You could get tickets on stubhub dirt cheap. I think front gate released extras at the last minute.
So the question remains, does that mean Coachella actually sells less tickets to Weekend 2? Them releasing more tickets at the gate certainly implies the "sell-out" is just as fake as Bonnaroo's

My guess would be that they knew people were gonna be eating tickets so they put out an extra allotment. You may also be able to resell your ticket through front gate, which may be why they were available as well.
My understanding is that Coachella sells like 70% of its tickets at pre sale. I think last year a lot of presale buyers were expecting a repeat of all the untz they had in 2012, and then when the lineup was totally different didn't go or couldn't scalp them.
I know that last year they released a good amount of tickets around 2 weeks before weekend 1 for face value for both weekends. I actually got a weekend 1 ticket then and sold my weekend 2 to a friend. I think they do this to send a "fuck you" to scalpers and try to eliminate the secondary market.
Edit: You also didn't need to buy a shuttle pass with these tickets, so I actually ended up paying less for my weekend 1 ticket than I did for my presale weekend 2 ticket that I was forced to buy with a shuttle pass. No promise that this ticket sale will happen again though, as I believe it was a playstation promotion last year.

How cheap were the stubhub tickets compared to the initial price? Would it be better to play it safe and buy it when it comes out or just wait a little bit for stubhub and then snag it?

Last year, you could find tickets at around $300 or cheaper online for pretty much the whole month leading up to the festival, but in 2012 tickets were well above face value until a few days before. It really depends on the lineup. This year I would probably recommend buying them when they come on sale as long as you're sure about which weekend you want. Scrambling a few days before trying to find a ticket because you wanted to save a few dollars is not fun.

They were below face, but I can't remember how much. I'm certainly just going to buy now rather than roll the dice, but you'll have a better idea once the lineup comes out.
Oh also ever since reading that Clipse are working on/have worked on/maybe finished a new album together, I've convinced myself that they'll be on the poster.
