I love to read opinions on live music and her what people think of certain bands, especially ones that I may have the chance to see myself. I hope there isnt a thread like this already but oh well, im sure someone will tell me if there is so its cool, win/win.
Heres mine: 10. Staind/3doorsdown/breaking ben/crossfade in 2005 my first concert in virgina beach. i know i know but staind was great 9. Shiny Toy Guns in 2009 at the Norva in norfolk va. It wasnt so much them but the bands that opened for them were awesome, I discovered a band called The Delta Fiasco that night and I would say that was the first time I was blown away by a band I had never heard of, shiny toy guns capped the night off nicely. 8. Heart 2009 in virginia beach On the beach.. breathtaking performance 7.Band of Skulls 2011 bonnaroo. band had energy 6.Portugal. the man 2011 saint louis mo. 4th time seeing them but first in a small venue. with lights and closeness it was amazing 5.My Morning jacket NYE Madison Square Garden 2008/9 if you dont know... 4. The Black keys NYE 2009/10 the riviera in chicago. balloons, first time, with gf, sold out, caught em before they changed 3. Metallica/Pearl Jam bonnaroo 08. Pj played for three hours and metallica in the mosh pit my oh my its a tie 2. Graveyard bonnaroo 2011 saw em twice that day first was accompanied by the craziest shroom exp. of my life 1. RAGE AGIANST THE MACHINE 2007 alpine valley wisconsin OH MY GOD in the PIT OH mY GOdness

I'll play! Not really in any order but
1. The Flaming Lips - 2007 at The Echo Project Festival - First time I'd ever seen them and really had no idea who they were. Mind = BLOWN 2. Ministry, Sepultura, Body Count (was suppose to be Helmet but their tour bus crashed and the drummer broke his hand) 1993(?) Edgewood Fairgrounds Atlanta GA. The most violent pit I've ever seen. Lots of people left on stretchers that night. 3. The Residents - 2002 Demons Dance Alone tour, 2010 The Talking Light tour, 2011 The Talking Light round 2, 2013 Wonder of Weird tour. All were spectacular. All took place at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta GA. 4. Radiohead - Bonnaroo 2012 5. Sun Ra Arkestra under the direction of Marshal Allen - 1995(?) Variety Playhouse Atlanta GA. Absolutely MIND blowing, I literally cried as they left the stage. Powerful powerful stuff, pure magic! 6. John Zorn's Masada quartet - 1992 Midtown Music Hall - Unbelievable musicianship, Joey Baron is a GOD on the Drums. Actually they all were godlike on their instruments. I would never have believed you could get sounds like those from drums, saxophones, upright bass or trumpets. 7. Jane's Addiction & Suicidal Tendencies - 1991 Pensacola FL, don't remember the venue name. 8. The Eels - 2013 Wonderfull Glorious tour - Variety Playhouse Atlanta GA, one seriously fucking rocking show! 9. The Flaming Lips - 2012 Party in the Park - Centennial Olympic Park Atlanta GA. This show gets a special separate mention because I believe this to be the best Flaming Lips show I've seen since getting into them. They opened with Sweetleaf and it just got better from there. 10. KISS - 1979 Dynasty tour Portland ME- My first concert so it HAS to go on the list. I've heard the bootleg of this show and god they were awful that night! But to a little kid it was the coolest thing I'd ever seen or experienced in my life.
Damn that was harder to do than expected. So many amazing shows. Honorable Mentions - Phish 2012, Melt Banana 2011, Jonathan Richman 2009, Eric Clapton 1999, Ratt 1984(yes the 80's metal band) Poison opened and they were fucking horrible, and Twisted Sister 1985.

No real order except for the number 1.
1. Phish – Big Cypress 1999/2000 (A millennium weekend celebration with a midnight 7+ hour set. Pure magic 2. Roger Waters – Pine Knob, MI 1999 (First time seeing anything Floyd related live) 3. Wilco – Pabst Theater, WI 2009 (Sat second row center and the show was just electric. Proved to me Wilco was one of the greatest bands of all time) 4. Leftover Salmon – The Fillmore, Denver 2004 (Haloween show that was out of control.) 5. Green Day – Cobo Hall, Detroit 1994 (Dookie Tour, High Energy and my fondest memory of what the floor was like at a show in 1990’s) 6. Bonnaroo 2002 (I can still remember seeing the lineup at work and thinking “I need to make that.") 7. Jimmy Buffett – Pine Knob, MI 1996 (First time seeing people my parents age throw down. I also had my first taste of corn and did a lot of underage drinking. Jimmy came up on a platform on the lawn and did a song right in front of us. I just stood there happy as anyone could be at that moment.) 8. Jeff Tweedy – The Vic, Chicgao 2009 (My first Tweedy charity shows and I’ve never felt the community that Wilco and Chicago encompass. Just a great two nights of music) 9. Phil Lesh & Friends – Red Rocks 2005 (Ryan Adams sat in for the show and it could not have been a more perfect night on the rocks. Nothing beats a RR show.) 10. Ryan Adams – Overture Hall, WI 2008 (He played an amazing show in a beautiful venue. He blew me away and I’d seen him numerous times before.)

1. Green Day (2009) - GD was THAT band for me growing up, and this was my first big concert ever. They played for 3 hours and my voice was gone by the end. This was probably the most energetic live performance I've ever seen out of 300+ bands. Will potentially never get topped.
2. Iron Maiden (2012) - Drove to Atlanta at the last minute to catch this, and was able to sneak in the pit less than 10 seconds before the band came out on stage. I teared up when they opened with Moonchild, and I actually shed a tear during Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (which I have never done at another show). Amazing experience.
3. Swedish House Mafia (2013) - Turns out my first time seeing them would be the last time anybody sees them again. I still remember their last show (at Ultra) like it was yesterday. It was a phenomenal show. I would love for them to reunite just so I could experience them again, even if it means giving up bragging rights of seeing their last show ever. It was that amazing.
4. Coldplay (2012) - You may have seen the videos of Coldplay's Xylobands (light-up wristbands), but they were truly a sight to behold in person. It was truly one of the coolest things I have ever seen. The whole evening was magical, and cemented their spot as one of my favorite bands.
5. Phish (2012) - Their show at this past Bonnaroo was a breakthrough for me musically. I only knew a few Phish songs, and was not too up on my jam bands. I was afraid of getting bored during a 4 hour set, but Phish totally converted me. I had the time of my life dancing throughout the whole show, glow stick wars happening behind me. They gave me a whole new appreciation for their style of music and other bands like them.
6. Rammstein (2012) - I'm a sucker for large production value, and nobody tops Rammstein in that department. They had it all. Rockets launchers, giant male genitalia shooting foam, tons of fire, and so much more. It's unreal how much they put into their shows.
7. Skrillex (2012) - Haters gonna hate, but this show (at Roo 2012) was one of the funnest experiences I had in my life. Between his spaceship and smoke cannons, my light show gloves, and the light rain, everything went absolutely perfect for this show. I felt like the planets aligned for me to have that experience.
8. Big Gigantic (2012) - Roo 2012 had a ton of amazing shows for me, including this. I was volunteering, and my shift started at 8 AM Friday morning. I watched Big G for a bit, and was walking away, but the beat build-up got me so pumped that I just could not leave yet. This happened literally 5 times, where I tried to leave but couldn't. After all, I was there to have an incredible time, and dammit I was gonna have one.
9. Between the Buried and Me (2011) - One of my absolute favorite bands of all-time. I got to meet these guys before their show, and they wee super cool and friendly. Their show was unbelievable too. You would think a band as complex as BTBAM would lose some of their effect live, but they are even better.
10. Band of Horses (2012) - The only experience that wasn't just a single show, but rather FOUR shows. BOH became one of my favorite bands in 2012, and ended up becoming the first band that I got to see multiple shows on a single tour. I first saw them at Deluna Fest, and then saw them in Tampa at a sold-out show about three weeks later. The day after that, I drove to Orlando to watch them play an acoustic set at the local record store, and then saw them do another headlining set later that night.
Other than #1, it all kind of jumbles together, so nothing else is in order. But here they are: 1. Alice Cooper x6- Seen him 6 times and all 6 are the best shows I've ever seen. If I had to pick one, it would be his Bonnaroo show last year just because he broke out a rare "Halo of Flies" performance. 2. Iron Maiden/Testament- Nashville's Starwood Amphitheater. I miss that place. 3. My Morning Jacket- Bonnaroo 2011. I stupidly missed their 2008 marathon for the Superjam. Big mistake. 4. Man or Astroman?- Mercy Lounge. Great live energy. 5. Flogging Molly- Seen them 3 times. Performance-wise their show at War Memorial 3 years ago was best. Memory-wise, last year at Bonnaroo was best because I got to interview Dennis Casey after. 6. John Prine/Todd Snider/Dickie Betts/Lucinda Williams/Paul Thorn- Nashville River Stages. Great top to bottom day of music. Prine is a god. 7. Trailer Park Troubadours- I stopped counting how many times I've seen these guys. Best show was their 2000 Christmas show. Lasted about 4 hours and just turned into a big party. Highlight of the night was someone requesting "Felize Navidad" and, since they didn't know it, they just sang "Felize Navidad" over and over again to the tune of "La Bamba." 8. U2- 360 tour. Vanderbilt stadium. Biggest spectacle I've ever seen. 9. Mercyland Live- Americana Music Festival. What a great once in a lifetime show. Emmylou Harris, Buddy Miller, Phil Madeira, Shawn Mullins, and a whole host of others at Nashville's Downtown Presbyterian Church. 10. Pink Floyd- Vanderbilt Stadium. Granted, it was the Roger Waters-less group, but still a good one.
bahahaha yes....what an awesome weekend....such random acts for each night, all I really remember was drinking a coconut head drink and listening to boyz 2 men thinking wow, never thought I'd see this in person hahahaha

It was an adventure to get to Atlanta as an inexperienced driver and they blew the roof off that venue. They played "Drunkship Of Lanterns" for like 40 minutes.)
Some of your lists and experiences make me sad and angry. Some of you seem to enjoy terrible, terrible things.
4. Coldplay, the Oakdale Theatre, February 2003. When they just started touring off "A Rush Of Blood...," back before they were terrible.
Says the person with Coldplay on their top 10 list...and the disclamier "back before they were terrible" doesnt count. They were always terrible. And yes Ive seen coldplay twice, willingly. I like terrible, terrible things

I'll give this a shot. These may change over time as I actually think about it but here is my initial attempt.
10. Rain (Beatles tribute band) 2011 - Don't get me wrong, they are a decent tribute band. But I ate so much corn before walking in that show I literally thought I was watching the Beatles. That was a hell of a night. 9. Hurt 2008 - This was during a period of time I was listening to Hurt Vol. 1 & 2 fairly often. 8. Nonpoint 2006 - Saw them in a super small venue and the crowd was even smaller. They went 110% all night too. Felt like they were playing for 20,000 instead of 100 folks. 7. Tool 2007 - I was standing about 30 feet from the stage. Felt like i was staring into a space ship all night. 5. North Mississippi Allstars 2006 - Killer show. One of those shows where even if you've never heard of the song they were starting to play, it was a sure thing you'd be dancing my the end of it. 4. DMB 2005 - I've always been a fan and had seen them live a couple times periously, all sober. So this was my first mind altered DMB performance and I never took my eyes off Carter. Not even for a second. Dude hypnotized me. 3. Chevelle 2004 - The amount of music that came from just those 3 guys seemed like 6 guys were on stage. 2. Atomship 2004 - Never listened to Atomship until I went with a buddy to a show in Biloxi, MS. They absolutely destroyed it. 1. Avett Brothers 2012 - I like the Avett Brothers but my wife loves them. We've seen them multiple times. This particular show was on Mud Island in Memphis, TN. If you've never been, you have to take a monorail over the river to get to the venue. So to set the stage, I ate more corn in the car before getting out than anyone else in Memphis that night. Went straight from the car to the monorail and was put front and center to where it felt like I was the pilot of this flying monorail. That trip over the river put me in a zone that I had never been in before. They put on a great show but my state of mind that night made it my favorite show to date.

I had pretty garbage taste throughout high school and went to college in a relatively small town far from any major cities so just about all of mine will be from the past three years or so.
1. Arcade Fire, Lollapalooza 2010- The combination of anticipation of seeing them for the first time + sharing the experience with good friends + the fact they sounded incredible and the crowd was amazing made it one of the best nights of my life, music-related or not. Still get the chills thinking of the crowd spilling into Downtown Chicago after the frestival, “singing” the chorus to “Wake Up.” 2. Paul McCartney, Wrigley Field 2011- Sat in the nosebleeds, otherwise this may be #1. Seeing him at Miller Park this summer in much better seats so I’m sure it’ll become top 3 at worst. 3. My Morning Jacket, Milwaukee 2011-Just a few days after their Bonnaroo set and they played over 2.5 hours. Stood about 15 feet from the stage in front of Carl in awe the entire time. 4. Explosions in the Sky, Chicago 2012-Lucked into second row tickets. At times it was so loud I could feel every single hair on my head. 5. The National, Milwaukee 2010-Played two of my favorites from Alligator that they don’t play often anymore, Available, plus all the hits from Boxer and High Violet. Also the night I found out what a great frontman Matt is. 6. Jack White, Lollapalooza 2012-Never had a chance to see the White Stripes but this was a decent consolation prize. Both of his backing bands were ridiculously good. 7. Jeff Mangum, Milwaukee 2012 8. Bon Iver, Milwaukee 2011-“Hometown” show and the first of his tour immediately following his second album. I’ve never been to a show where there was so much love in the room for the artist. They sounded incredible and the crowd was great as well. 9. LCD Soundsystem, Milwaukee 2010-Would be higher but the venue they played was garbage and has pretty bad sound. 10. Deerhunter, Bonnaroo 2011-Was a casual fan going into the show but was completely blown away. Zapp’s description up there is pretty accurate.

N SYNC, Cleveland, 1998- it was my very first concert so I think it deserves a spot. Fiest, Pittsburgh, 2012- she's always impressive live, but this show was more amazing for some reason. Skrillex, Bonnaroo 2012- someone else mentioned this as well. My friend and I went because we thought it'd be funny and it turned out the be the best time we had! Will Hoge, Mobile, 2005- A hot, sweaty show with lots of energy and booty shaking! Adele, Cleveland, 2009- It was Adele. Need I say more? Danny Brown, Bonnaroo 2012- Went into it being on the fence about him and he completely blew me away. He's now one of my favorites. Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers, Cleveland, 2012- Part of their hiatus tour. Probably the last time I'll get to see them live and they delivered! Marc Broussard, Kent, 2013- this man's voice brought me to tears. And the opening band, Courrier, was fantastic. El-P, Killer Mike, Mr. Muthaf**kin' Exquire, Despot, Cleveland, 2012- Great rappers, a fun show, and they are all amazingly nice guys! Spring Awakening, Cleveland, 2009- do musicals count? This musical gives me all the feels, and one of my favorite singer-songwriters, Kyle Riabko, was touring with the show at the time.

Not really in order.
1. David Byrne at the Chastain Amphitheater in Atlanta. I think it was 2009, but maybe 2008. 2009 sounds more right.
2. Portishead at the Greek Theater in San Francisco. October 2011.
3. Zappa Plays Zappa at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta. June 2008. This was the only concert I've ever been to by myself.
4. Thievery Corporation at the Echo Project. Whatever year that was. 2008?
5. Polyphonic Spree at the Echo Project.
6. Bjork at the Fox in Atlanta. 2008? 2007, maybe?
7. Daniel Johnston at the Variety Playhouse. I think 2007.
8. That 1 Guy at the 5 Spot in Atlanta. Sometime between 2007 and 2009.
9. George Clinton at the Variety Playhouse. April 2009 (it wins over George Clinton at the Civic Center because Josh didn't break his collarbone after the Variety show).
10. Lyle Lovett at Chastain. Close to whenever the David Byrne show was. (I didn't even really want to go to this show and only got the tickets because I had to buy tickets to three shows for some reason, but it was one of the most fun concerts I've ever been to.)
And now I've learned that I have no sense of time.

2. Bob Dylan, Grateful Dead, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, July 4, 1986, Rich Stadium Buffalo NY. Petty & the Heartbreakers did their own set and also backed up Dylan.
3. Bruce Springsteen, June 13, 2009 Bonnaroo. I'm from New Jersey, need I say more. Seriously, Great set.
4. Boston, The Outlaws, Todd Rundgren & Utopia, Poco. June 17,1979, Giants Stadium New Jersey. My 1st Concert!!!
5. Paul McCartney, May 17, 2002 Nat'l Car rental Center (now the BB&t Center) Sunrise, FL. Okay I am a huge fan of Paul & the Beatles and Wings. Waited so long to see him. My GF and I got upgraded by the Arena staff and ended up right next to the stage on the side where his Piano was located. Could almost reach out and touch him.

1. 04/27/13 - The Rolling Stones - The Echoplex - Echo Park, CA *Surprise warm up gig at a club venue. Echoplex holds about 700. Holy sheez. This just happened. And it was real. I think. Someone pinch me?
2. 06/08/12 - Radiohead - Bonnaroo '12 - Manchester, TN *No explanation necessary. This show just did it for me. We were in the pit on the left side.
3. 12/05/10 - Roger Waters (performing The Wall) - Staples Center - Los Angeles, CA *Floor seats, row 19. Such an unforgettable experience.
4. 07/23/10 - Rage Against the Machine - Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood, CA *First live performance since hiatus in 2007in the United States since hiatus in Sep '08. Benefit show. Such a small venue for such a big band. Mosh pit was CRAZY! Definitely unforgettable.
5. 04/14/12 - Radiohead - Coachella Wk1 '12 - Indio, CA *First time seeing Radiohead. Wasn't sure what I was getting into, but decided to rail spot it that day. Front row Radiohead = amazing.
6. 01/31/13 - Sound City Players - Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood, CA *Alain Johannes, Chris Goss, Brad Wilk, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Lee Ving, Rick Nielsen, Corey Taylor, Nirvana Reunion (sans Kurt), Rick Springfield, John Fogerty, and Stevie Nicks. Seriously. Saw from 2nd row, unforgettable show.
7. 05/24/11 - System of a Down & Gogol Bordello - The LA Forum (Great Western Forum) - Inglewood, CA *The most pits were crazy and both system and Gogol put on a stellar performance. I always look back on this thinking "I had no idea what was about to happen" because two days later my concert life changed... Not only was this pump-up for Roo '11, but it was also two days before I found out I won the Total Access contest.
8. 10/04/11 - Jane's Addiction - John Anson Ford Theater - Hollywood, CA *This was night 2 of their reunion, which was their first live show in like what, ten years? What stands out the most to me was the venue. John Anson Ford is like a secret venue nestled right behind the Hollywood Bowl that if you ever get to see a show there--- you will be amazed and in awe.
9. 08/11/12 - White Denim - The Troubadour - West Hollywood, CA *Such a powerful band in such a small and epic venue. This show will always stand out to me. I can never even THINK about this band without spontaneously air guitaring the riffs to "At the Farm"
10. 08/06/12 - Green Day - The Echoplex - Echo Park, CA *Another surprise warm up gig. Setlist was awesome. They debuted a couple new songs, and the energy level of the crowd was so high. The band was great, and I will never forget Billie Joe's energy and DGAF attitude. Weeks after this was when he entered rehab. You have to understand that I grew up with Green Day, so to see them in this intimate venue was so amazing to me.

DMB - comcast center mansfield 08. absolutely amazing crowd that night. 2. phish - comcast center mansfield 2010. first phish show. enough said. 3. black keys - td garden boston 2011. took a couple things for this. if ya know what i mean. 4. my morning jacket - new years eve 2012 boston. first mmj show. they played about 27 songs and a huuuuge encore. awesome crowd. 5. rolling stones - gillete stadium 2006. my first concert ever. introduced me to so many things. 6. phish - bonnaroo 2012. (too many reasons) 7. dmb - randalls island caravan 2011. so many amazing performances. 8. tame impala - boston house of blues 2013. first tame impala show. hooked. 9. neil young and crazy horse - td bank boston 2012. never thought i'd get the chance to see my idol. clearly i was wrong. 10. bon iver - radio city 2012. radio city is awesome. bon iver is awesome. radio city + bon iver = awesome

That moment was AMAZING and most unexpected. Talk about a deep cut, I figured he'd just be playing the hits.
Me too. When he did the "I've told the band to kill the audience I figured "that's just Alice doing the Alice as Ringmaster character." But he meant it. The theatrics were there but way stripped back from his last few tours. Instead, he pulled out some deep cuts like "Hey Stoopid", "Muscle of Love", and of course "Halo of Flies" which for the longest time was like the holy grail of Cooper tunes because he did it about once a decade. Then he let Ryan Roxie, Orianthi, Tommy Henrickson, and Chuck Garric just melt people's faces off with the music.

1. Phish 3/6/2009 Hampton - reunion show. fluffhead opener broke something in my brain and I have never been the same since. i have never felt energy like that before.
2. NIN - Voodoo 2008 I think. Lights in the Sky tour. still the best stage production I've ever seen, first and only time I've seen NIN, a band I've loved since the early 90s.
3. Ministry - HOB NOLA, maybe 2007? c u latour. meshuggah opened. i thought a nuclear weapon was going to strike the venue and we all were going to die.
4. Metallica - 1996, Biloxi, Load tour. I was 15. Metallica really taught me what putting on a show for the fans was all about.
5. Phish - 7/4/2010 - Alpharetta, GA. the harpua > killing in the name of show. i hurt my back badly, wasn't right for weeks.
6. NY&CH - Voodoo 2012
7. deadmau5 - Voodoo 2010 I think - my first time seeing an EDM show with serious production (mau5cube). set me on the EDM path I walk today.
8. SCI - one of those times they play the fox in atlanta, somewhere between 2002-2004. obviously my memories of these times aren't so hot.
9. MMJ - Bonnaroo 2004 - in the rain. blew my mind.

Patterson Hood - solo, opelika, AL, eighth and rail martini bar - patterson yelled at us for acquiring a bootleg copy of Dirty South, because we were hollering our requests from it before it was released. again like 2001-2004, somewhere in there.
