Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
I am a 6 foot 425pounds 30 year old male. I have always struggled to sleep on camping trips (by struggle I mean I usually don't sleep or just dose in and out) and I have never been able to find an airbed or cot that is comfortable for me to sleep on. Does anyone have any ideas or suggetions? I've serached and searched and if I can't find a way to get some sleep I am going to have to sell my ticket.
Please do not post that I should try an sleeping bag or a cheap airbed. I am too fat for those. Thank you Inforoo!
Also, any other tips from large folks are greatly appreciated! I plan to make a "Farming while Fat" FAQ thread that gives tips/ideas for ways to deal with being obese on the farm.
If you don't already exercise start now. There is more walking at Bonnaroo than some might expect. Also, watch your hydration like a hawk. I can only speak for myself but I think I sweat more than your average roo-er. Also, look at Brylane home, they carry chairs, etc for heavy individuals. Look for air beds, not air mattresses. And don't worry about a sleeping bag, it's gonna be way too hot for one anyway. We just bring sheets and a blanket. Good luck!
Ditto to the exercise and air bed vs air mattress. Honestly going RV sounds like it would lend to the maximum comfort for you but if you're tenting you should look into the foam mattress pads to put on top of whatever you find to sleep on whether its an air bed or cot.
In the sale e-mail I received from Gander Mountain, these two are apparently on sale although I can't speak to how much of a deal they are. They have a 600 lb weight capacity and should work better since they're also higher off the ground. Getting off of our air mattress in the morning is not a pretty sight
I just want to say one more thing. You should be proud that you are not letting your weight keep you from going out and doing the things you want to do. For years I didn't go to Bonnaroo because I was sure I was too fat, or too old, or too square....I regret that and life's too damn short for regrets.

I am 6'3 - 275lb I was 320 before I bought my Roo Ticket!. That was more of a personal choice.
I have always been very active so I am not worried about the walking too much. I do a walk 10 K a day on average.
I can say I have used the Intext Airbed and it is great. my wife and I have shared it with no issues, she is 5 11 and 130lbs so doesn't really matter to her, but I didn't go flinging her off when I got on.
I have also used Memory Foam mattress topper. Picked up a 6" think double Mattress on amazon for under $100, it was great. Not good for regular camping because it doesn't fold up as tight as it comes in the original box, but if you are looking for something to get you through Roo, it would be a good option.
We bring sleeping bags, the material feels cool and we use it like a mattress pad and just use sheets and a blanket for cover up.
I'm a small guy but, your best bet it too get a large cot. they make ones for people of a larger stature. Because cots are off the ground they allow more air to flow and makes a much more comfortable sleeping. There are also things at places like GNC that you can buy vitiams that help you sleep that are all natural, I have to use them to help me wind down after a day full of music. When you do actually get to sleep for a night try and wake up and not take too many rest and you will have an easy time sleeping later that night.

Ditto to that! Also, melatonin can help you get to sleep once you hit the sack for the night.

Thank you!!! I've wanted to do Bonnaroo for the past decade but always was scared. I turned 30 this year and realized life is too short for me to wait any longer. I am going to Bonnaroo, I am going to make friends and I am gonna feel like I am king of the world.
I've decided to take a small twin bed mattress since I am coming by myself and with no one else in the tent/car I will have plenty of room.
Now I need a pop up/ez up and some coolers and then the misc stuff and I am ready!
Hey, Moose...it's awesome that you're finally making it to the farm. Everybody who comes to Roo has to deal with one physical issue or another, so I'm glad you're not letting yours stop you. Difficulty sleeping is a very common one...happens to be mine as well.
Your mattress idea is a good one. Just make sure you keep it dry. My wife and I brought either a queen or full-sized (not sure) futon mattress one year. Stripped it right off our futon and rolled it up and stuffed it into the back of our pickup truck. Worked great. It may soak up some moisture from the air and feel damp, but if you leave it in your car during the day the sun will bake it dry for you.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I have problems sleeping in general... this helps, I have started my bonnaroo stock pile:

Welcome to the tribe man. It took cancer for me to grow a pair, glad you're coming and definitely join us for Friday brunch, this is a hell of a crowd.

These are seriously the most ridiculously effective things.. Ever. I don't buy into a lot of this type of stuff and my gf is a nurse and she does not either, but we both swear by these.
And awesome job OP! Life's a fucking adventure and glad you are coming to Roo!
I absolutely will be at brunch. Will also bring some Melatonin for sure. Gotta make sure Neuro Sleep is ok with Melatonin?
It has Melatonin in it. Along with some other natural herbal stuff and the same thing that is in Turkey's that make you sleep. Skip the Melatonin and bring 4 or 5 Neuro Sleeps. Try it out way before you go. Trust me, if you find Melatonin to help you will find this to be like that on steroids.

Does it make me a horrible person if the first thing I thought after reading this was, "Well, I know it definitely wasn't testicular cancer?"

Since it was katbur who posted it, I actually could have predicted that before I read it.

I'm 5'11, 235; and have pretty nasty back issues resulting from an even nastier wreck in late 05- in Jan 06 the "best neurologist in TN" said I'd never walk unassisted again, in June 06 I was camped in Clark Griswold and walking and dancing around the farm normally- but that's another story. The point is that I also have had a hard time sleeping while camping especially when my back flares up. So I got one of these: www.target.com/p/aerobed-one-touch-comfort-elevated-queen-size-airbed/-/A-12309557#prodSlot=medium_1_39&term=air+bed You have to find someone with a generator to plug it in and inflate it, but they're super comf and built to last. I haven't used an Intext that people have mentioned in this thread so I have nothing to compare it to, but I swear by the aerobed and melatonin. A sleep mask also helps. At 425lbs, do you have issues with sleep apnea? If you do, take this very seriously at roo. Access Camping has overnight power available for CPAP machines, make sure to contact Laura Grunfeld at access@bonnaroo.com BEFORE May 23rd to ensure that you've got what you need. Also, make sure to visit www.bonnaroo.com/festival-info/access-for-patrons-with-disabilities/ if this is the case and jump through the appropriate hoops. And yes, like people have said before, hit the treadmill or go walking every day. EVERY. DAY. Most rooers average 3-4m on the feet every day EXCLUDING DANCING, and the heat will sap some of your stamina. Be sure to read this thread: inforoo.com/thread/5066/best-shoes because no matter how big or small you are, happiness or sadness at music festivals always starts with your feet.

Hell no. It makes you someone who makes me laugh out loud, inappropriately while at work
Cool! So do you know how groggy this leaves you if you don't get enough sleep? On at least 2 nights I figure I'll stumble into camp just as the sun is rising than get baked awake only a few hours later. 6 hours seems to be ideal for my day to day activities, but on the farm I think I get 4 max.
And moose200x , like someone said Welcome to the tribe! I'll look forward to meeting you at brunch!

monkybunney I feel like I got a good night sleep with anything over like 4.5 hours of sleep. One time my bf came home like an hour after I drank one and he said I was in outerspace. So maybe earplugs + neurosleep.
This has been said in a million other posts, but if you have any issues with rubbing or chafing, invest in some Body Glide! That's my numero uno "Farming While Fat" tip.
