"As many of you are aware now, Neil Young & Crazy Horse will not be performing at LOCKN'. Neil Young & Crazy Horse regretfully have cancelled their North American tour due to a hand injury sustained by guitarist Poncho Sampredo.
We hope that Poncho makes a quick recovery, and we are very pleased that Pegi Young will still be performing at the festival. Stay tuned for more artist announcements!!" - in the news portion of lockn's website (name change cracks me up every time I say it)
I would say this looks like we are getting someone new, and not Neil solo.

I took this the same way, although I really fail to understand why Neil can't just do a solo set. I saw him on his last solo tour and he was absolutely outstanding. Unfortunately, the phrasing of this announcement makes me think it isn't a possibility.
I'm not seeing any potential replacement that would satisfy my lust for Neil - I'm not looking for another jamband.
Sipe is the fourth founding member of seminal jamband Aquarium Rescue Unit confirmed for the festival. The drummer joins guitarist Jimmy Herring, who is slated to perform with Widespread Panic, as well as frontman Col. Bruce Hampton and bassist Oteil Burbridge, both of whom will perform as part of Col. Bruce & Friends. The only missing member of the band’s classic lineup is Matt Mundy, who has not participated in recent reunion dates. Kofi Burbridge and Derek Trucks, who have been part of the extended ARU family for years, will also be onsite for a set with Tedeschi Trucks Band.
I am also "meh" about this. I'm only a casual Phish fan, so I'm certainly down to see TAB, but it isn't even close to a substitute for Neil
agreed. i like the style of music, but they just aren't exceptional. i saw them put on a 4 hour show last year at roo, but they were just kind of forgettable. then again, maybe that was all the mushrooms i ate... lol

I see the fest is also offering refunds to fans who respond by August 23 due to Crazy Horse's cancellation. I'll still go and enjoy myself, but be a bit let down not being able to see Neil rock out.
I hate it for you guys, but I was in the same situation as horn. Really close to going, mostly to see Neil. So I'm glad I held out. It'll still be a great time.
Same. Told myself if they did single day tickets then I would buy Saturday but didn't way to commit to the whole festival just for Neil.

Sounds like the rumors of a surprise ARU set may have some merit. That that set may not be so much of a surprise.
TAB does absolutely nothing for me. Definitely bummed about Neil, but I can't complain. This festival is still going to rock, and I'll just have some downtime in between Black Crowes and Panic on Saturday.
My gf and I are flying into Lynchburg arriving at 10:45am on Thursday. We may need a ride from there. If you're passing by the airport on your way in or also flying in around that time and want to combine forces to keep costs down let me know. I will compensate anyone who is willing to help. We would also be looking for a ride back to the airport on Monday but I can always work that out later.
also, we in va have had an unusually mild summer. the past few summers have seen highs up to 115 heat index for a week at a time. it's been awful. this year, however, mother nature has been kind and blessed us with lots of rain and low temps. hopefully the trend continues into the fest, the temp at least, hehe

Well, they decided to release single day tickets. I know they will not be in as high demand with NY&CH no longer playing. I'm happy for the people close by that couldn't commit to the full weekend and want to check the fest out.
Not surprised by the single day tix. Like a weekish ago, didn't they say they've only sold around 15000 tickets? Even with last minute sales and day tix, that should leave us with lots of dancing room.

so i'm currently in my last year of grad school and really want to be able to buy a student ticket. Problem is I turn 25 before the festival starts and i know it strictly says you must be UNDER 25 AT THE TIME OF THE FESTIVAL.
Do you guys think I can get away with getting a student ticket or do you think they will be strict about it? Would be really nice to save $100+ dollars on the weekend pass.

Website says they are going to check IDs, but who knows. At most, I would think they'd make you upgrade to regular ticket. Worst case, they make you buy a full price ticket out right. Guess its up to you if you want to take that risk.

It's also going to leave you with no festival next year. Jambands don't move units anymore - look no further than Rothbury for proof.
See you next year for LCKN - featuring Widespread Panic, Skrillex and Bassnectar.
I feel the reason tickets sales might be so bad is because it is in the middle of no where. For us in the midwest it is more than a 12 hour drive. From Nashville/Atlanta it is a 7 hour drive. NYC is about seven hours also. They removed the shuttle from one of the airports so now you have to get to town to take the shuttle. Plus plane tickets (at least from MN) have been hovering around $500RT for the past couple of months, until recently when they dropped drastically.
The festival was announced late in the summer when people may have already made "commitments" to other fests. They should have announced this in Feb/March and given ppl more time to plan for it. I think they shot themselves in the foot even before it got off the ground.

I thought kayaking movie would involve watching a movie while kayaking. Alas, it's only a kayaking documentary. Swimming and tubing with James River Float Company would be relaxing, but how could I find time for that? The Blue Mountain Barrelhouse, www.bluemountainbrewery.com/2013/08/20/interlocken-party-at-blue-mountain-barrel-house/, is 3 miles from the fest and offers shuttle rides to and from, but only during hours that bands will be playing. I'd like to check it out early Thursday if possible.

Also classes will have just started for a lot of college students. That takes out a big group of festies, too.
