Hey everyone! If anyone is looking to go to Lockn' this year and is having trouble to find the funds to purchase a ticket might I suggest volunteering with WET! I've volunteered with them a couple of times and it was a good time! They scheduled my volunteer hours around the bands I wanted to see so I didn't miss much during the festival, I met some awesome friends, and plus I got a free ticket! Just a thought :-) See ya'll at the festival!
It's also going to leave you with no festival next year. Jambands don't move units anymore - look no further than Rothbury for proof.
See you next year for LCKN - featuring Widespread Panic, Skrillex and Bassnectar.
I feel the reason tickets sales might be so bad is because it is in the middle of no where. For us in the midwest it is more than a 12 hour drive. From Nashville/Atlanta it is a 7 hour drive. NYC is about seven hours also. They removed the shuttle from one of the airports so now you have to get to town to take the shuttle. Plus plane tickets (at least from MN) have been hovering around $500RT for the past couple of months, until recently when they dropped drastically.
The festival was announced late in the summer when people may have already made "commitments" to other fests. They should have announced this in Feb/March and given ppl more time to plan for it. I think they shot themselves in the foot even before it got off the ground.
I think you have some good points here. they really did announce this too late in the season. many had already spent their money on other festivals. and then it has come together slowly piece by piece. they are still announcing things and it is less than two weeks away! people just don't have the faith like I do that this is going to rock and be awesome!!
The best part is gonna be the mud wrestling match between Trey and his band versus the members of Widespread Panic. Finally, it's gonna happen. Hopefully Grace Potter officiates.
Do y'all think they will allow people with a car camping pass to camp in tent only? I bought tickets from a friend and he gave us a camping pass also, didn't want to spend more on tent only.

I doubt they'll have any way of knowing that you didn't buy a "tent only" pass since I'm assuming all GA wristbands will be the same. Only thing is you'll have to walk your stuff over from Car Camping and leave your car unattended there.

I had an awesome time at Lockn'. Small, different feel from Roo. Only one act playing at a time, so you never felt like you were missing something.
I live 1/2 hour away and just bought a Sunday day pass for me and a $59 student ticket for my daughter. Zero traffic, and we parked in the very front row of day parking at 10am. No line at will call. Five minute walk from day parking to stage. Spicey pie pizza was there, but not Amish doughnut folks.
WSP, the Colonel, and Black Crowes were awesome. Furthur was was kind of a very minor buzzkill for me following WPSs set so we left about midset, zero traffic getting out and I was home in no time.
As for the future of Lockn, Coram Capshaw lives nearby and some of his businesses had a presence (Starr Hill and Jefferson Theater). And Dave Matthews has a house about 20 minutes from Lockn. Just saying.

You guys, I trucked my land yacht of an RV 12 hours over to Virginia from Memphis for this one and it was so worth every second and every penny. The small crowd, nonstop music, friendly people and staff, amazing collaborations (Trey sitting in with Furthur, Bob Weir with Black crowes, Bob and Chris Robinson with Tedeschi trucks, John Fogerty with Panic, Grace Potter with Mule ... It was one giant super jam, the list goes on)
In addition, the fest organizers really did their homework and ran it really well. I had no problem since I got there so early, but the only hiccup I heard about was the line getting in for people who arrived after me. They tried staging us in day parking until they opened the gates at 9am thurs. and it apparently turned into a huge clusterf*$k after I got in. Other than that, they kept portos plentiful and relatively clean, never any lines for getting into the main venue from camping and a great campground in the rolling hills.
I highly recommend this fest to all you inforoosters who live anywhere near and like the jammy side of things. They've started something really special in them thar hills... I just... wow.
Anyway, now that i've collected myself again, here's a video of the grace and warren collaboration. I know they've done this before elsewhere, but it was special to me. The mountain air, right time, right place. Still giving me chills thinking about it. Just amazing.

Lock'n was a great experience. It will be tough to make it back with the distance. I think I heard that the promoters have the site leased for two more years and think they would be willing to keep attendance in the area of 30k especially with what they charged for Super VIP and regular VIP and the success of that. Phish could be a possibility for the next one. The crowd was great apart from some late night shadiness in tent only the last two days. I regret never making it out to the campfire stage, but it was just too far after a full day of music at 2am. Furthur just kept getting better every night. I was also glad to see Punch Brothers didn't leave their cover of Radiohead's Kid A out of the setlist.
They only had about 25K attendees out of an allotment for 40K. Jambands just don't move units anymore.
Again, get ready for LCKN 2014, featuring Widespread Panic, Pretty Lights and Deadmau5.
Not happening. All they would really need to do is have it a little earlier in the year and have someone like umphreys there to bring in the young crowd. Personally I hope not. I enjoyed it being an older crowd. I think word of mouth will help this fest grow enough for at least 30k to be there next year with few changes.
The collaborations were top notch across the board. Grace with mule, zac brown with cheese, zb with furthur, trey with furthur, jimmy with furthur, susan tedeschi with furthur, fogerty with panic, derek trucks with panic, bobby with black crowes. I know I'm leaving some out too, but there was just so much good music.
Think if Neil hadn't canceled attendance would've been better?
I think it had more to do with school just starting back up and not a whole lot of time between the announcement in may and the festival. 4 months isn't much time to make plans, especially when most people have already bought tickets/made plans for the summer by then. I know quite a few people that would've gone if they hadn't already got tickets for other festivals. With people able to plan for it a year in advance I think the attendance will be better next year.

In that case if the organizers want to continue this festival we should expect an announcement reasonably soon... Before the end of the year?

Yeah, those kids sure do love that Umphrey's. Nothing draws a crowd these days like long, drawn out jammy rock songs with heavy prog influences.
I hope this fest survives - it'd be nice to have a premier "jam" fest somewhere. But make no mistake, they didn't allocate 40K tickets just for kicks. When you fail to sell almost half of your ticket allotment, it's foolish to just come back and offer the same product. If this fest is back again next year, I'd wager almost anything that there is a noticeable shift in the lineup. It's not as if this thing was headlined by moe. and Bisco and Umphrey's, bands that mostly play large clubs and theatres. Furthur, Trey, Panic...these are acts that book and fill amphitheatres and large theatres/rooms. I'm assuming it wasn't cheap to get everyone in one place, you know?
If they don't offer more by the way of the lineup, I think they would have to lower the ticket price. For the amount of money shelled out for a full price ticket plus fees for camping and parking, you aren't getting much bang for your buck, compared to almost every other festival. I thought it was pretty absurd that a Bonnaroo ticket was cheaper than a Lockn' ticket.

Pretty obvious the organizers were aiming for the gentrified hippie silverbacks of Charlottesville, VA.
