Anybody else a little surprised Jack Johnson isn't headlining the boom boom tent? Guess I'll have to wait til Tomorrowland to see him in the appropriate setting.
Yeah my main disappointment is with Saturday. So many good acts and somehow I have big gaps in my day because of the conflicts. As pumped as I was for that Rage cover set and for Modest Mouse, I'm probably not seeing either with this breakdown. There's no way I'm missing Bloody Beetroots and I f*cked up missing Matt & Kim at Lolla last year. Not missing them on the beach.

Alright so I think this is probably the final plan for me. I know some of my friends are gonna be split with MM/Beetroots, Wild Cub/Gary Clark, Wiz/The 1975, and Moon Taxi/Matt & Kim but either way I'd be happy with this...
Friday:
RAC (Boom Boom) 1:30-2:30 - Leave the fest and get food at Sea & Suds most likely Dawes (Hangout) 3:45-5:00 The 1975 (Palladia) 5:00-6:15 Wild Cub (BMI) 6:30-7:30 - Feast on some shrimp Queens of the Stone Age (Chevy) 7:30-8:45 The Black Keys (Hangout) 9:00-11:00
Saturday:
RDGLDGRN (Hangout) 11:30-12:30 Diarrhea Planet (Palladia) 12:30-1:30 Shakey Graves (BMI) 1:45-2:30 - More shrimp Matt & Kim (Chevy) 4:45-6 The Bloody Beetroots (Boom Boom) 6:00-7:15 Chance The Rapper (Red Bull) 7:15-8:45 - Eat at Hangout Restaurant The Killers (Hangout) 9:00-11:00
Sunday:
-Eat at the Hangout Restaurant Reignwolf (Palladia) 2:30-3:45 Capital Cities (Hangout) 3:45-5:00 Portugal. The Man (Chevy) 5:00-6:15 St Paul & The Broken Bones (BMI) 6:15-7:30 - More Shrimp Andrew WK (Palladia) 7:30-8:45 Outkast (Hangout) 9:00-11:00
My big gap is after Shakey Graves and before Matt & Kim on Saturday. There's basically 2 time slots in there and I haven't really listened to any of the bands in that window. Any suggestions would be appreciated because I'd rather not leave the fest at that point. Amos Lee is okay, not a huge fan but he's the only one I know in that period from 230-445.

Amos lee with a full choir will be worth seeing, nice lineup!

I'm in the same boat. A lot of the bands I counted on as filler to miss are set against each other so ppl like Amos lee who I had no interest in seeing is now my only option or just sit til things pick back up...
Agreed. I would have seen all 3 of those if I could. The silver lining to all of this is that this going to make for more reasonable crowds at all these sets. That's a very comforting advantage to this fest that people don't appreciate enough, including myself. At Lolla, good luck getting anywhere near a stage if you're not camped out there for the majority of the day. Some days you may get lucky but the more mainstream acts, you have no chance.
Trombone v Taxi is brutal. I have zero interest in Matt and Kim, personally. Overall I think they did good, but they really put some similar acts together. Bastille/Portugal for example. That Ingrid, Valerie June, John and Jacob slot literally could not get more boring. Gotta be the 3 biggest snores all weekend. Hey, atleast were getting them outta the way...

I second the recommendation for Amos Lee because he will have a choir. That will be really special and worth seeing on the beach. He's not my favorite to listen to his albums, but I have seen him live and he is pretty great. I'm definitely not going to miss him with a full gospel choir.
As far as 2:30-3:30 slot, if you like jam bands at all, 100% go to ALO. One of my favorite (and most underrated in my opinion) live bands. They have been signed to Jack Johnson's label forever and I have no idea why they are not more popular. They have great records, but they really shine when playing live.
Live example: .
You've probably heard this one and most people think this is Jack Johnson's song (and he does have some guest vocals on it) but it's an ALO song:

100% agreed on Trombone v Taxi. I'm leaning toward halving it Taxi>Trombone>good spot for MM. My buddy swears by Valerie June. I haven't had it quite click yet, but I'm willing to head to Palladia for it. If she keeps my attention, then great. If not, then grub and an easy, afternoon nap. Perfectly willing to hedge my bets there.
Friday: Gary Clark Jr/Gambino/Wild Cub Wild cub is gonna have to drop from consideration and i Gambino didnt sell out in Philly so fast this would become an easy choice but i will have to put some thought into picking between him and Gary Clark.
Saturday: Matt and Kim, Trombone Shorty, Moon Taxi Im seeing Taxi in 2 weeks but really wanted to catch this People of the Sun set and I've heard great things about Matt and Kim live and i know they will be th favroties for my group but im leaning Trombone Shorty so far.
Sunday: double whammy wiht Avetts vs St Paul and the BB. I saw St. Paul 2 weeks ago but the venue did not do them justice this will be a tough call. Then there is Portugal vs Bastille too but Portugal has the early edge for me.
I have a few friends going this year that have been basically telling me that Matt & Kim are about as good as it gets for a middle of the day festival act. Ton of fun, great interaction, just a big party. Diff musically, but kind of in the same way Gorgol Bordello is fun live. I watched some videos from Lolla last year when I missed them and they definitely look awesome. Was really hoping they'd be before that Moon Taxi show. I'm definitely leaning M&K now but who knows, when I get down there I may be more inclined to rock a bit. We'll see.

First and last time you'll ever hear Matt and Kim compared to Gogol Bordello.

lol probably. Hard to get across what I'm trying to say here. I guess part of it is that their live show kind of transcends their actual music. A lot of people consider their live performances to be can't miss and a fun party-like atmosphere and the music is kind of part of it as opposed to the driving force of it. At least from what I can gather. You're not gonna just pop on matt & kim and gorgol bordello on ur ipod and just casually listen and get the full effect. At least I can't. EIther way still up in the air, I'll see how our group shakes out for that one.
