I can't bring myself to watch any of the streams.. I was offered free media passes and couldn't get the dates off from work Glad to hear OutKast was amazing. Maybe one day!
While i was not able to attend the fest this year, I have attended every other year of it, and watched the webcasts this year. I really believe that OutKast was one of the best headlining shows in the (short) history of the fest. The crowd was much more into Outkast than the other headliners
Still blown away about how incredible outkast was! I was just a few feet from the stage too I waited out over two hours and it was worth every second. Hope you all had as much fun as I did let's do it again next year

Same here! One of my fellow writers got a media pass but couldn't attend and he offered it to me, couldn't take it either :/ Also just learned we had unused media passes for Coachella last year...

Not true at all. The black keys and the Killers had great crowd energy. The difference is this..... It's outkast! Hangout and the crowd just set the bar for an outkast concert. Good luck to the next 35 crowds. I will be at two of those jamming the same damn way! Outside of cutting spottie short it was perfect.

Counterpoint crowd was great as well. I think we just say the south does Outkast shows way better.
Was anyone else at reignwolf? Holy shit he was great
Dude, I was at the fence where he crossed over. He was awesome. I managed to get some great photos. One of the guys beside me did the whole selfie thing with him.

If you happen to find yourself in that position again.....

nice. I was just to the left and about two or three people from the rail.

I've never been before, and a friend of mine that's partners with the local radio station here couldn't go and offered his media pass to me. He ended up giving it to a mutual buddy of our's whom just recently got divorced - so I'm sure he lived it up. I saw some video on my FB feed of the OutKast performance. Not that it has a whole lot to do with it, but being in the south - the majority of the south just click with hip-hop more so than other acts - I'm sure everyone was one cloud 9 watching OutKast.
Sucks about that Coachella pass! I've yet to attend that one as well.. so damn far away from where I live (Lousiana) and they always hold Coachella on my birthday weekend (17th). I'm determined to make it one year - probably next time Radiohead or someone epic headlines.

Yeah I bought my ticket for this next year, planning on working with the site still and already called dibs on the pass for this coming year. It'd be awesome if I got it and I just sell my pass, that'll get an extra 400ish in my pocket
Sooo many things to say! This might take a few posts.
I'll start with the fact that my friend had the oh so dubious honor of being the first guy arrested at Hangout. Great. Luckily they did not cut his band so we got him back for Saturday and Sunday but it was the most massive buzzkill ever for Friday.
I saw 33 shows including 4 on Thursday. Bombay Bicycle was the weirdest awesomeness ever. Girl Talk left me wanting to see 60 concerts, none of which were another Girl Talk show.
i saw Bleachers, Dumpstaphunk, Girl Talk and Thursday and did see Bonobo but left after 2 songs bcuz i thoguht he was pretty bad but i enjoyed everyone else especailly girl talk.
only saw 4 shows friday but kicked off with Ozomatli was amazing and was dancing in a circle with them when they came out to the crowd it was so much fun one of the ebst of the weekend.
saturday was the best day i ever had at a festvail i literally saw an act at every block. Every single act i saw went hard and eeally enjoyed playing and was great engaging the crowd it was just unbelievable. i saw 13 acts.
sunday was great i ended the day by catching most of St Paul and then the rest of the Avetts who were amazing i kinda wish i saw the entire set. but we stayed when they ended and i got about 10 rows or so from the stage on the left for OutKast who put on probably the best show i have ever seen.

First and foremost- my exact words to my buddy that was there with me last year and this year. "This isn't the same fest as last year"! Adding 13,000 people was very noticeable but manageable.
Best of the best- outkast, queens of the stone age, killers, beetroots, and avetts
Next group- Amos lee, capital cities, fitz, Allen stone, the 1975, the black keys.
The bad- Bastille!- didn't see that coming. Lifeless and boring, childish gambino- too much reliance on EDM to be a real hip hop act. Go back to television!
Couple of complaints about the Chevy stage- Sound was terrible except for queens- probably because they would be loud anywhere. Bathroom location and that stupid fence around the pink pony was a disaster. Somehow that stage seemed remarkably smaller than last year.
I think the jump to 40,000 is doable if they fix the problems at the Chevy stage. Bathrooms, water, and beer were mostly attainable at any point.

OMG why would you ever cut down from 2 bathrooms on the beach to 1? That choke point was the absolute worst I've ever seen... Chevy stage has kinda turned into a real shit show this year. Why would you ever put beer, baths, and water within 15 yards of each other? ugh, dumb. Also dumb was the massive choke point on the western most street between the water and the bathrooms. "hey, this looks like a great place to really narrow the shit outta the street. It's not like 40,000 people will be exiting the beach via this road every single night" From behind the sound booth all the way to the wedding chapel was a complete sound pit where you couldnt hear anything. I could hear Jack J all the way walking up until I hit that wedding chapel. Same thing with Queens - same sound pit- my friends left and I move up to the sound booth and it improved a ton. Friday was just a bad day sound wise. Queens was all over the place on their pitch and their volume. Even when you got out of that sound pit the volume was very up and down. Also, the keys, omg did hangout ruin that set. I've literally never seen a front man so incredibly pissed off. That guitar and bass both sounded like complete crap. Dan Auerbach is a complete pro and milked that guitar the best he could to get the best sound but it was pretty awful. Lonely boy cut short? great. Everything was off. Yall see him end the first set (I assume to change the set list due to sound) and immediately get on his phone before even leaving the stage. Im most surprised by how few people even noticed the awful sound... Good lord he was pissed - Exact opposite of Flowers the next night when the sound was obviously fixed. Gotta get better than that Hangout... Ugh, and the fireworks were cut so short when all the used cartridges started raining down on the left side crowd. I was literally hit in the face... But that was the wind. I'll let the issue relating to nature go, but logistics really need to be fixed, that was lame.
I was so pissed off at the sound on the Chevy Stage during QOTSA that I never went back to that stage for the rest of the weekend. Weren't there relay towers behind the soundboard in previous years? or did they downgrade the sound system there? Whatever it was, Hangout fucking blew it on that stage.
I saw I think, 3 shows on the Chevy stage for the whole weekend 22 Shows, I mostly skipped the early acts and then concentrated on my "Must See's" the rest of the time. I don't leave shows early much, my experience with that has always been that I end up missing the best part of both shows.
^^dittos on the Chevy hate. ...and I was asking the same thing about the relay towers. I never remember the sound being so bad there in the past. JJ was literally inaudible. I could hear Flips a little better than Queens, but not well enough to make it through either show. And how did the problem last the whole weekend! Somebody in power had to know it was a disaster.
Other than the Chevy stage, my only other complaint was one I posted pre-show. I thought Moon Taxi was too big for the HO stage before they even announced the Rage show and they ended up just shutting the doors and not even letting people in when others would come out. It sounded awesome even outside the fence, but I went over to T Shorty who was solid.
Watching the live stream. Balkan Beat Box is a beach party for sure. Slowly dying inside that I am not there
...BBB was a definite moment of unified bliss for my crew. I really want to see them again.
Other fav's that pop in my head:
Los Colognes - I'm hooked Avett's - much more rockin' than I've ever seen them Gary Clark - the new Clapton Dawes - could be because my wife and I watched them from one of the Coca Cola couches under an umbrella..pretty great way to see a show. STS9 - new and improved imo PL - had some crazies doing dance tricks for us all night Trombone Shorty Los Lobos ALO
