The 2010 John Legend and last year's Stevie were the only "non-rock" headliners ever and even Stevie is is the classic rock genre now. I could definitely see them as a #1 but it's not the typical Hangout signing.
My browser won't let me type after a quote at my work computer for some reason, I would like that lineup a lot though. I personally don't get the big deal with NY&CH but I'd obviously check them out. There's a handful of songs I really like by NY but again I don't understand the hype around that "get" considering how he sounds nowadays.
Took me a little bit to get the undeniable awesomeness of Neil. Keep listening to music and one year it will click.
I'm not at all being condescending either. Hell Zeppelin didn't click with me until I was 30 and listened to LZ II in its entirety by myself one night. I was like "ah OK this is incredible."
And it took me like 4-5 years before I liked Kid A. Now every song makes me cry every time I listen to it. So I'm making progress musically while I'm devolving emotionally.
If there is one festival where I would actually LOVE to not only see Jack Johnson on the lineup, but actually BE THERE for the performance, it would be Hangout Festival enjoying the show with my feet in the sand.

you've changed, man. The dead blue egg head makes me feel like this is zombie phi. Zombie phi who listens to Jack Johnson on beaches.
They have those places all over the Florida pan-handle. Unless there's more to it I don't think that means anything.
I know this is a bit off topic, but it's a cute story.
I went to Hangout 2011 with a large group of folks. If you'll remember, 2011 was the year that the shuttles sucked. And our group was pretty much reliant on them because our condo was next door to the Florabama (Never... never again.). Anyway, we're finally on the shuttle and one of the girls, Brooke, realized she forgot her sunglasses. I said to not worry about it because there's a Surf Style right at the gate. But, she honestly had no idea what a Surf Style was.
Now, if you've traveled Beach Blvd for any length, you know there are Surf Styles on every other corner. So, I proceed to point out every single Surf Style we encounter for the entire ride, because I'm mean like that. :-) Imagine how frustrated she was when we got to the fest and there were TWO Surf Styles. Tee hee! She bought her cheap sunglasses and we went on to have a blast, but for the rest of the fest, the running joke among our group was, "Hey, Brooke, there's Surf Style!"
Assuming sarcasm? My heart would stop if they got them. Thats the one thing that does suck about Hangout- heavier acts dont fit the Hangout "vibe" or "demo." Would love some more acts like them mixed in here or there.

Actually not sarcasm, believe it or not. I was trying to think what band Hangout could have booked which is also playing at Coachella, but which Coachella gets to announce first. Assuming it is a larger act, and with my continued skepticism that Hangout landed Outkast, as well as knowing it isn't Arcade Fire, that would boil down to one of Tool/Muse/NIN (the other three heavily rumored acts for the last headlining spot at Coachella). I don't think it's NIN, and I think Muse was pretty sincere when they said they were only playing one U.S. festival this year, "in California," so that leaves me with Tool.
Right, but didn't they say they were playing one or two festivals like, overall? As in, the entire world? Because then they mentioned one in Moscow, then said they thought there might be one in California. I could definitely see Muse at Hangout, though, so it could be them. I don't put a ton of stock into things like that Muse interview, because it's impossible to tell if its just the artist being coy or if they honest to God aren't sure of what their plans are yet.
Nope, it was one or two in the US. I also agree that most artists have no clue what there plans one, "1 or 2 US dates" could mean anywhere from 0-10.
Yep, ZBB is so small time that they'd be 4th line at b'roo, but they would have all three nights at hangout.
I love that you're attempting to disprove your bizarre obstinance regarding Hangout's status as a festival in this manner. That really got to you, didn't it? You've got a lot of personal self-worth tied up in this little beach party.
...nope, i just disagree with you. I don't give a rip about status. HO gives me enough bands i like in the perfect setting. My crew has had a blast the last three years. Prior to that, we did a different 'major' every year for about ten years. I just think your observations are generally subjective, but presented as fact in thethe 'hater' manner you obviously enjoy. But, open forums always have your character playing their parts.
I'm just gonna act like the idea of Tool or NIN happening never entered my brain. Updated predictions with some of these new rumors...
Outkast * Pearl Jam/The Killers * Jack Johnson Vampire Weekend * Queens of the Stone Age * The Dead Weather * The Flaming Lips Pretty Lights * Lorde * Lana Del Ray * The Lumineers * Amos Lee * Alabama Shakes * M.I.A. Captial Cities * Portugal. The Man * The 1975 * Bone Thugs 'N Harmony * The Head & the Heart
Hopefully Bombay Bicycle Club comes to the beach. New album coming out sounds great so far, and their Europe tour dates end in March heading into a U.S. tour schedule
getting really excited for this lineup next week cant come soon enough. As much as I wouldnt mind seeing Jack Johnson and Vampire Weekend I really dont wanna see them as a headliner and I am really hoping Muse gets one of the top spots.
But I am really pumped for Outkast, Fitz, Capital Cities, and Portugal the Man if these confirmed rumors are in fact true. Would also really like to see the Alabama Shakes too.
I know repeats in back to back years is very rare but is it possible anyone from last year does return?
Last year, two acts from the 2012 Kickoff Party were on the 21013 Lineup (Delta Rae and Big Gigantic). Who from the 2013 Kickoff Party do we think could be on this years full lineup? Obviously most of us want Umphrey's but there are some pretty decent names on there overall. Here is the list and what their tour schedules show:
Umphrey's McGee (tour dates currently end late April but at Summer Camp the week after Hangout) Benny Benassi (nothing really listed on the web site) Railroad Earth (tour dates currently end in early April) Dillon Francis (tour dates currently end early February) Drew Holcomb and The Neighbors (tour dates currently end mid February) LOTUS (tour dates currently end late March but at Summer Camp the week after Hangout) Hayes Carll(tour dates currently end in early March) Conspirator (tour dates currently end in late March, at BUKU) Quixotic Reptar (web site does not appear to be working) Wick-it (tour dates currently end early February) St. Paul and The Broken Bones (tour dates currently end in late March) Future Rock (at Joshua Tree Festival that weekend, out for Hangout)
I'll guess Conspirator is the most logival choice due to the BUKU booking.
Somebody check me on this, but the condos right next door to Pink Pony where they usually have the media headquarters, is that the Phoenix All Suites building?
