God bless all you crazies who signed up, but this sounds like an insane idea to me.
That's EXACTLY why I signed up. True story.
Good on ya! I'll be cheering all y'all on while I sit in my hammock and try to keep my internal temperature regulated. That's as much exercise as this yankee can muster in the TN heat... That said, any of ya wanna come up here and do a polar bear plunge in January, I'm in!

I think I may do this. I've always thought about running at Roo because I run the Peachtree Road Race every year in Atlanta, but I never have actually laced up sneakers and done it. Now if only I can get enough sleep between Animal Collective & this.

You live in Pittsburgh. You're not a Yankee, you're a Yinzer.
Also, New England summers can be brutal. Hell, it's going to be 90 all this week, and we're not even out of May.
Are yinzers and yankees technically allowed to use the term "Ya'll"? I thought only us Sotherners could claim this term.... :-)
I wouldnt be caught dead saying "y'all" - I value pronunciation and enunciation.
It isn't a mispronunciation. It's a contraction of you and all. and it is helpful in that it distingushes itself from the singular "you" (without having to say something like "you guys" or god forbid "yous guys"). So, y'all better get over any issues y'all have with it! Y'all are going to hear many "y'all's" uttered down on the farm!

Well, I've lived in New England for a total of 15 years, on and off. So, New Englanders say I'm a midwesterner (seriously), yinzers say I'm a New Englander. I had the misfortune of not being born in Pittsburgh so no matter how long I live here, I'll never be a fully vested yinzer, as much as I would love to be identified as such!
As much as I adore my city, I would take any of the 15 summers I've lived in New England over August in Pittsburgh. Its not the heat, its the humidity and the STILLNESS. There's always a breeze in Boston... I never knew how heavy air could be til I first came here.

I do so love a nice natural southern "y'all", its a great word! A natural "yinz" in the wild is increasingly rare... most people I know who use that, sort of 'put it on' for effect. Which is fine by me, because some studies are showing that the western PA dialect is rapidly dying out...I think that's sad, its part of the culture. I often use y'all in place of yinz on the interweb because some people have NO clue what 'yinz' means. Also y'all and yinz come from the same etymological root, at least according to the History Channel, haha. Damn English language, not having a nice word for the second person plural pronoun!
Oddly, there's apparently one area of (I think) Minnesota that also uses yinz, quite randomly. Etymology is cool... especially if you're a nerd like me!

I just caught on to what you mean by "yinz". (I think) I spent a couple summers in the western North Carolina mountains- and the locals there use a variant of that except there it is distinctly a two syllable deal: "you'uns"
"You'uns need to git back over yonder"
"I'm terribly sorry, I do not understand the local vernacular" (Worked in a restaurant with a Guatamalan guy who could never quite understand what locals were saying- my favorite quote of his)

YES! I have heard this NC "you'uns"--its not far from a "yinz", and I've even heard some western Pennsylvanians (older folks) do more of a you'nz than a yinz. The History Channel thing I saw on it traced how the vowel tones changed as you move through the country, I think based on where the original settlers came from and what language they spoke...I found it really fascinating (again...I am a nerd).
I gotta give my dude your Guatamalan friend's line...he's born and raised in eastern MA and has a somewhat heavy accent, and people here are always asking him to slow down and repeat himself, and he's always asking me things like, "what the heck is 'redd up'?"

We need a "vernacular heard at Roo" thread. I'm from Maine but live in Georgia so I'm a Yankee in the south who says y'all when so inclined and wicked when referring to something that is just so, so good.

This thing is officially at capacity. I wonder what capacity was? I also wonder how many people signed up and won't show up?
Yeah I wish they would have given us a heads up that is was getting full, I registered but my friend tried to register today and it was "at capacity" ....

DAMNIT. I waited too long and now it's at capacity. If anybody is willing to give up their spot, I'll paypal you the $5 to reimburse you. You can reply to me here, PM me, or email me at stephanrules@gmail.com.
While I've got the feeling that this isn't really a real 5K, running a 5K was one of my goals when I started this year. Then, I started doing DDPYoga a month later in February....fast forward to RIGHT NOW, I have just five workouts left in the program, which means I'm gonna finish my 5 month program 2 days before Bonnaroo, so I'm gonna be in major celebration mode. Especially since I've dropped from nearly 220 pounds to 183 in that time.
Soooooo, yeah, I want to do this thing whether I'm hungover or not

Congrats. I droped the same forty pounds from 211 to.171. I cant give you my spot but stop by the tent at bonnaroo and see if you can get in. IIt cant hurt. I am looking forward to it too. I have stopped working out till after roo trying to conserve water and really work on hydration before I get there.
PM me if anyone winds up out in POD 1 this year and wants to run over to the 5k together on Saturday. I'm leaving today (pre-show volunteer) and will likely do a 5 mile run out to the West Tollbooths on Thursday if you want to join me.

Two questions
how fast do you run the five miles?
what time on Thursday?
i may not be too fast but I could jog the five miles w you, I just don't want to end up jogging alone while you run out front! I'm not confirming but I am curious.

it'll probably be more of a jog vs run. definitely slower than 9:00 per mile to enjoy the sights. not sure about the time but most likely start between 8am and 9am before it gets too hot.
message me your info and I'll connect with you later in week. Thanks!
