Probably a combo of jogging and walking. It'll be too hot to really run, plus you don't want to wear yourself out and be too tired for the rest of the day.

I used to run until about 4 months ago, when I was diagnosed with an aggressive type of rheumalogical arthritis. My awesomd husband is doing me a solid and agreed to push me in my wheelchair for the RooRun. So he will be walking it. And we will probably not do the second loop and just head to the finish!
If you are planning to wear vibrams....don't. Knocked out a five miler around the farm this morning. Some of the roads have heavy gravel that will bruise your feet if you shoes with minimal or no cushion.

What a great husband! You both should get a medal.

So the Roo Run: great in theory, fucking terrible in execution. 1) It was scheduled for 9, but it really should have been 8. 9 was already pretty warm. 2) It didn't actually start until closer to 9:30. Apparently the photographer was late or something?! Regardless, standing in the hot sun for an extra half-an-hour was not a good idea. 3) Confusing pace car. I couldn't figure out where the end of the race was. I stayed in front of the pace car, but I know a lot of the people behind it just gave up.
They did a great gave job of guiding the runners in the correct direction. There was safety staff EVERYWHERE along the course and they gave out water at the beginning and end, as well as at three spots along the course. I felt this was sufficient. I would do it again, but only if it started at 8.
I showed up on time, they had a guy there MCing the thing, and at 9 he wanted us to do the YMCA, and then Mr. Roboto, and then some other shitty disco song. If I do it again, I'll just start the course by myself at the start time. Had a lot to do that day and listening to crappy disco while some Workaholics looking reject prances around wasn't on the list.

I agree. I ran it in a good time for me. 30 mins... I was happy. that said
1. START ON TIME - 8 or 8:30 if possible. the extra 30 mins in the sun was brutal. I warmed up in the 2 mile walk over. no need to be dancing YMCA and other shiz. 2. SHADE at the end. run, then stand in the sun afterwards. NO THANKS. I was HOT. had a heat headache till I could get into a mist tent. 3. id have paid $20-$30 to run it and get a cheapo T-shirt vs just the stinking sticker. BOO here too
positives:
1. Course was nice. I loved that I got to see parts of the farm that I never would experience otherwise. 2. nice turnout 3. at the finish all those cheering the runners on.
anyone see the sign that said "This sure sounded like a good idea a month ago?" or something to that effect. I LOL'ed about that for a few paces.
that extra time killed me. I was super hydrated pre-race and peed before we started. because of this delay. I had to hit the ditch on brushy branch and water the trees. Killed my time.
First 5k and I couldn't have been happier it was at roo 28 mins but I slipped up. Got pretty dehydrated later that night after going hog wild at RKelly. ROOKIE MOVE!!!
It was awesome being cheered on by those lucky ribbon winners who already finished. I was a little bummed only the first 100 got one though. Still an awesome event. My legs are still sore

One little note: this race gave me my first bout of heat exhaustion ever. I drank water the night before and before the race, but I just don't think it was enough. I wanted to share my experience so other people might notice the signs.
After the race I went back to camp, took a cold shower, and started cooking for the VIP brunch. I started feeling really dizzy and light-headed, so someone else took over for me. I spent the next several hours pounding water and feeling confused. I would get up, walk around for a minute, then forget where I was going. Every time I stood up, my vision would tilt and slide.
I managed to play cards, hold conversations, and hang out, but I definitely wasn't feeling my best. I noticed I was getting worse as time went on, even with all the water. It wasn't until I realized that I was burning up, but I wasn't sweating for hours that I knew there was a problem. My husband misted me down and put me in a car with the AC running. It took about half-an-hour, but I definitely felt better afterward.
So just remember, if you're feeling confused or sick or you're hot without sweat, getting your core temperature down is imperative! Use ice, pour your cooler water on yourself, get in the car and turn on the AC. Drinking water isn't enough when you've reached this point.

wow Glitterous. that is scary.. Yea I knew my core was a bit hot when I had a headache that felt like a hangover one forming up and I knew I was super hydrated. 30 mins in the mist tent fixed me fortunately.
When feeling the symptoms of heat stress: Confusion, headaches, profuse or complete lack of sweating, etc...
You need to get your core temperature down and make sure you aren't just drinking water, but taking in salt as well, as sodium is important in transferring stuff past the blood-cell barrier.
A great way to reduce your core temperature is to chill the wrists, the skin is thin there and you have some good blood flow past there.
Had a great time ... even if it hurt a lot. Thrilled to get a ribbon -- really didn't think I earned it, but happily surprised to be in that top 100. Wound up meeting a few folks where we bumped into one another several more times over the weekend.
Suggestions for the future: Real bibs for a souvenir Start at 8 -- would save quite a few degrees Shade at the finish
Loved that they had GREAT prizes for the winners. What a surprise! Nice job, Bonnaroo!
how did Gumby win for costume... that guy in the Party Animal was totaly better
All of those costumes were great. I guess Gumby was the only one covered head-to-toe ... pretty bold move in that heat. Party animal, bear-head guy, quail man ... all quality entries.
Best costume got GA tickets for next year. VIP Pit passes for the end of 'Roo this year. Four vendor food vouchers
That's pretty good stuff for 30-40 minutes in a costume running through the campgrounds. First and second got something similar. Feel bad for third place. He got an assortment of gifts in a tote bag for being 2 seconds slower (even though those three KILLED the race -- sub-17 minutes).
Something I didn't mention - I LOVED how all the people along the road cheered on the runners. There were girls holding posters, people holding squirt guns and squirting the runners to cool them down, and a huge cheering crowd at the end of the race. It was a GREAT motivator. I love Roo!
I so wanted to do this, but my back went out before I even made it to the farm. I had decided I would just walk it, but by Saturday morning there was no way I could have done that either. chicojuarz did it & got himself a ribbon!
congrats to all who finished the five K. I found some of the stuff that a lot of people were on for paul the night before (Something about lucy in the sky with diamonds). Needless to say I didn't make my way to the race. I didn't see the sounded like a good idea a month ago sign but I agree whole heartedly.
My buddy was looking at the rocks on the way to shakedown from access and said it looked like a good way to roll an ankle. I do say I agreed with him.
There wasnt any timing mechanism. You kind of had to time yourself. There wasnt even a clock that said how long the race had been going when you finished. I only have an idea of what I ran bc someone else timed his run and told me when he finished.
