Haven't been on I-Roo in a few days. Had a roller coaster couple of weeks since Roo. Trouble with low platelets halting chemo, running into some problems with some things I am working on at home. Some spectacular things happening too. But I am at work, feeling pretty overwhelmed tonight. Mike is away at an Americanarama show I couldn't get to. Thought I'd pop in and read some shenanigans. But then I saw this.
Neither Mike nor I are very good at being in the spotlight unless it involves laughing and dancing and merry-making. I know he hates being the center of attention unless he is making someone laugh. This experience of watching a group of people who were brought together by our mutual love of music, of a festival that allows us to escape from that which weighs us down...to watch you all rally around Mike, lift him up and try to carry him to the finish line of a race with one of the ugliest monsters known to us, well, it has been stunning to say the least. (Maybe Rosko could put some semi-colons in that mess and pretty it up).
We will never be able to thank you all enough for what you all have done. For providing him with the funds needed to afford alternative therapies, to afford co-pays. For being the ones to give him some laughter in the middle of this storm. For the spirit healing that occurs when so much positive energy is concentrated into one person and one cause. Never in a million years could we come up with the right words, or the right gesture. Sometimes "thank you" is all that we have. Even when it isn't nearly enough.
Love you.
A very special thank you to Bonnaroo Works for this incredibly generous donation! We are exploring options to get the most out of this for Mike. EmmyLou autographed Gibson guitar
Please keep Mike and Angie in your thoughts, prayers, cosmic will. Anything and everything positive! <3 <3 <3
Well... The PET showed no new affected areas. And the lymph nodes and tumor look better, but the cancer is still there. Conventional medicine has little more to offer, other than oral chemo that would give only 3-6 months of further suppression, plus a bunch of nasty side effects.
The cancer has been stunned, per se. We are looking deeper into alt clinics (one is in Houston, one in CA/Mexico, one in ATL) hoping these other treatments can keep it knocked down for a long time.
Much love and thanks to all for the very generous donations that have helped Mike obtain alternative treatments and fill his summer with love, music, and good friends! The 'Whoring' thread will be brought up to date later today.
Please continue to send Whoreshack and LLL all the good vibes you have!

I don't remember this but if you want to puke in your mouth .... cr****

I hate to keep hogging up the good vibes, but someone stole Mike's oral chemo package off of his porch this weekend. MedCo sends it monthly via UPS, and UPS leaves it on the door step. This weekend they left it and someone snatched it, I'm guessing thinking it was someone's cool package of shit they ordered, or snooped and saw "MedCo" and were hoping for some good drugs.
MedCo, in their infinite wisdom, apparently does not feel it necessary to insure a package of chemo that costs $5000 bucks. And UPS is saying "we delivered it on your door". We are hoping that his Dr can prescribe another, similar med and the insurance will ok that. It sounds like they won't just pay for another round this month. I tried the pharmaceutical company, begged for a free month. They said they don't cover "replacement" meds. If anyone has dealt with anything like this, we could use the advice.
We're all a mess of paradoxes. Believing in things we know can't be true. We walk around carrying feelings too complicated and contradictory to express. But when it all becomes too big, and words aren't enough to help get it all out, there's always music.

man, I don't even know what to say to that except I'm so sorry. that is unbelievable in all respects... I hope his doctor is able to intervene, if he writes another script and it's rejected by the insurance, I know sometimes the physician can write a letter of appeal. but I don't know what the process would be for a med that specific and that expensive. I will brainstorm and ask some of my docs at work tomorrow, and let you know if I come up with anything. sending much love to you both in the interim!

Good God. Just when I think my faith in humanity can't get any lower. Who the fuck steals someone's chemo? Anyway. I'd try to file a police report. It is worth $5,000 after all. That way you can prove to his medical insurance that it was stolen. Some will cover the replacement of stolen medication. After this, I would see if they could start requiring proof of signature upon delivery. MedCo makes billions, they could cover insurance for goodness sake. So sorry you guys are having to go through this.

This really is the best piece of advice. This is felony theft. I'm sorry this happened. I really hope insurance can work something out. Sending positive thoughts your way.

It worked!! Never doubt the power of some positive thoughts. It seemed like we were screwed, phone call after phone call and Mike walking the streets nearby, looking in the snow. His Dr's nurse called the insurance co and did an intervention, talked them into sending out another batch!!! Thank you for the positive thought

That very thing has happened to us with my husband's meds-we both hope that someone enjoyed the MS injections they stole off our porch. I'm so glad it went better for you guys. Medco made us file the police report and he missed a week's worth of medicine because of it. Love and prayers.

Sorry to hear that. Good vibes to you and your husband. MS is a rough disease.

Just wanted to say "Thank you everyone" for all the good things you do for me and every other member of this close-knit board. I'm at a loss for words sometimes when it comes to the warmth and support you've continually shown me. The cards and hand-made afghan you all sent last week, were an incredibly kind and heart-felt gesture. I can feel the love in each inch of yarn.

A few of you have come to me asking how things were going recently. So I figured I'd give a little update.
Mike started a new, more aggressive chemo combination today in hopes of slowing things down. Unfortunately, his platelets are often times too low for him to have IV chemo, and it has contributed to the continued progression of the cancer. Muscle, bone and lung involvment have meant bouts of uncontrolled pain and some difficulty breathing. But he's hanging in there, trying to make sure to eat and drink and stay active enough. We've decided to restart the C. oil, as it will help with pain control, and growth slowed down during the period of time he was using the oil. We even found an organization willing to help with the process, and they have contacts who give a "discount" for medical patients. So we will save $$ compared to last round.
We really appreciate all of the continued support and well wishes and kind words from everyone. If anyone has developed that tele-porter yet, let me know. We spent 2 great weeks together before and during Big Ears, but these stretches in between are torture for both of us.
