Jeez, maybe these later seasons caused by global warming aren't so bad after all...this forecast couldn't be better. I still question it's accuracy beyond 4 days but this certainly gives me hope.
I was at Floydfest last year, have done Waka is hurricane conditions. Never fun. EZ up's are almost mandatory in the event of rain. This year I've got two, I can totally wall myself in if needed. If it's extended rain, the ez up is sanctuary, I keep everything in totes now so unless it flash floods.. i'm dry. Tarp under the tent just in case. I waterproof the floor and seams every spring just to make sure. Having a car nearby helps.
For clothing - poncho to keep everything from the legs up dry. Chaco's or beach shoes. Keeping my feet dry always seemed like a loosing battle, I spent more time sogging around then enjoying. I carry extra shoes n socks in my bag.
Hey dudes, headed to the farm right meow. Will let you guys know what the grounds are looking like.
After last night, wet.
No shit? hehehe. I just meant a general update on how muddy the grounds are. Steel crew has been out there all week, curious as to how much they have torn up.
How necessary are rain boots, really? I'm pretty sure I'll be foregoing them and toughing it out with my Sanuks this year.
I'm basically in the same predicament. I live and die by Sanuks. I wear any shoe and I get blisters. All this mud talk has me thinking I should bring a pair of shoes/boots just in case but at the end of the day I really think my best bet is stick with my Sanuks. I always tell everyone don't ever expirement with footwear at roo and wear what ever it is your comfortable in and used to and I think its time I take my own advise. I'm just going to bring more pairs than I was planning on that way if the get stuck/lost/broken/etc in the mud I'll be covered. I actually think at this point I'd rather take my chances barefoot than in unfortable rain boots.

Haha I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one considering going barefoot if it's muddy! I actually really like the squish of mud between my toes. I'd just have to worry about them getting stepped on.

Your sizes for tarp are good! The reason you don't want the tarp to stick out from under the edge of the tent is this: Rain runs down the edge of the tent. You want that rainwater to go into the ground to soak in.
If your tarp sticks out past the edge of the tent, then your tarp will collect all of this rain water and the water will just pool up in and under the floor of your tent for a total fail.

Yeah if it gets extremely muddy then barefoot works alright until you have to cross a gravel road or something like enter a port-a-potty. In those cases you can have shoes in your bag to slip them on temporarily, if you don't mind getting them filthy I guess.

no shoes is always the way to roo. just don't be a wimp
I'm on the fence between: poncho & rainboots vs. just getting wet
Same. My real dilemma with it is what to do with my cell phone/wallet. If I didn't have those on me, I'd be all about just getting wet and embracing the rain. I guess I could bring some zip lock bags with me in my backpack if it looks like it's going to rain. Then with the sensitive stuff in zip locks, bring the rain!
It's going to be a game time decision most likely though.
How necessary do you guys feel it is to have a raincoat or poncho? Honestly, if it is still going to be in the 80's while it rains, being that covered up by a non porous fabric sounds awful! This, my friend & I thought we would just be one with the rain & wear a swimsuit & coverup & get drenched. We do have rainboots to wear though! How reasonable do you think this plan is? Also, any tips on things to stick over or inside the boots to keep them from getting filled with water?

Zip locks for sure. I do that at festivals even when it's not raining to keep the dust out.

I'd stick to a poncho and regular shoes. I'm really thinking it's not going to be a washout. We've had the same forecast for going on 3 weeks and most days it doesn't rain a drop (at least in Nashville). The rain we do get are pop-up storms, which are small and will last like 30 minutes and move on. You'll be fine

If it's a short downpour, making sure your stuff is in ziploc bags then embracing the rain is pretty awesome. Although you eventually could be wet & cold, and deciding to put on a poncho at that point only does so much to improve matters.
At least it shouldn't be so hot this year. I guess that's something.

Im goin the flipside...Rainboots and no poncho. I can handle wet clothes, I cant do wet socks/shoes or muddy feet. Dancing in the rain!!!!!!

I say embrace the rain! I find the heat + humidity + poncho to be an uncomfortable combo. I find being soaking wet to be less uncomfortable than being partially wet and covered in plastic..ponchos are also annoying because they'll really only keep some parts of you dry, and then you're spending your mental energy trying to stay partially dry instead of just having fun. And as mentioned, the storms usually don't last for terrifically long, so then you'd have to figure out whether to throw out the poncho or keep it in your bag, getting other stuff wet. So I vote no poncho lol.

I tried to stay dry with a raincoat at the first day of Shaky Knees this but after discovering my raincoat no longer was water proof I had no choice but the fuck it I'm getting wet method. It's not bad even at Shaky Knees where its a good bit colder than Roo. My problem was getting my hiking boots dry after wards. My feet were not happy about it. If nothing else if you wear real shoes have a change of socks in your bag in a ziploc

If it's really hot, then I am fine with just getting wet and muddy. If it's even a touch cool then I will definitely do a poncho, but still may not bother with rain boots.
All my dresses are short, so the worst that can happen is my shoes, feet and legs get really muddy, and that feels nice I did that at Music Midtown last year and loved it. Hosed off my keens when I got home and I was good. I have 3 pairs of Keens and Crocs, so I will be good
I think I'm doing rain boots and a bathing suit if it does rain (classiest look EVER), BUT, I HATE HATE HATE having wet hair and I'm stressing out about that. Any suggestions? Should I add an old lady plastic hair bonnet to my rain ensemble?
So, I'm at the farm! It rained pretty heavily here last night and the only places it seems to have effected are right up by centeroo. Camp grounds seems mostly unaffected... but of course not many people here yet! ALSO FOR SOME REASON THERE ARE ONE BILLION FLIES.BRING BUG SPRAY.
