Tarp under your tent with the edges rolled up under the edges so all the water runs under the tarp. If you're using a cot, put your stuff up on the cot when you leave the tent. If you have an ez-up, tarps hanging down from underneath the edges will keep rain from blowing into your campsite...
Do you mean having the sides of the ez up covered with tarps?
Yes. Use zip ties to attach tarps to the frame of the ez-up under the edge of the roof. Creates a "wall" and will protect from rain/sun...tarps are not the best in non-rainy conditions though...they don't allow for the breeze to blow through. Use bedsheets or curtains for just shade purposes
If you use boots, you will want socks that go to the top of the boot for comfort. If it looks like its going to be a rainy roo, I suggest you get some decent rain gear. You can get a coleman rainsuit at Walmart for under $50 I believe. I find the ponchos don't do too well if the wind kicks up which it tends to do when raining. Check the forcast when it gets closer so that you can estimate how much rain preparation you will need to take.

I have a giant poncho that makes me look like a wizard. It really doesn't get any better than that for the rain. Hiking boots and rain pants too. Thankfully no one really cares how silly you look at Roo.
I don't really have the money for an expensive raincoat so ill probably stick with my plastic ones. I really don't want to have to wear rubber boots because I have bad feet, but I guess it'd be better than wet shoes. But then again maybe not.
We usually bring wellies, though I think I've only wore them once. Mine go way up to my knees and once the rain stopped they were too hot/uncomfortable. TN summer rain usually = lots of humidity (how it is today actually... yuck.) Because of that, I bring sneakers that I don't care about if they get muddy (maybe two pair if it looks like it will be really rainy) Water friendly flip flops (which I take rain or shine) Hoody & jeans (because rain + night time = chilly) Plenty of socks and underwear (never want to hang out wearing wet versions of either of those!) Umbrella Towels (a couple extra is good too incase the rain goes long enough that the used towels can't dry) 1$ ponchos I also have a clear plastic type rain jacket I got from Target a couple years ago.
Rain prep for your camp -

It's posts like this that keep me coming to this forum and make up for the amount of people I have to ignore because of their terrible attitudes. Thanks for the post, this is great advice for everyone. Rolling the edges under is genius.

No problem! Just putting my boy scouting to good use! I've gotten so much great info from the board over the years it's just nice to be able to contribute...
I wouldn't mind a few showers here and there to cool things off, but I fear becoming miserable if we get a full day of rain. Crossing my fingers for none of that. I did waterproof my tent this year, but I didn't spray my EZ-up. I guess I should do that too? Ugh. That thing is such a pain to try and put up by myself just to spray it, maybe I'll wait till the middle of the week and see what the forecast is and decide if its necessary.

ill be doing a mock camp set-up on wednesday and spraying the whole thing down with waterproofer and seam sealer. if my tent isn't dry this year, then its impossible to keep a tent dry.

You just fold the tarp up to be slightly smaller than your tent is, but fold the corners on top of the tarp instead of underneath it. At least that's how I've always done it and I think that's what they mean
I'm a little confused when you talk about tucking the corners of the tarp under your tent. Could you try to explain a little better?
Place a tarp under your tent when you set up. Then after the tent is up, roll any exposed tarp underneath. Make sure that water can't drip onto the tarp, and that the edges are rolled up, like you would roll a poster. Then any running water will go under the tarp instead of under the tent.

Got it! I came here to ask this exact question. Man, you learning something new every year! Thanks for the expanded answer!
