We have a 20' flag pole, and will likely use the same college flags we use for tailgates to ID our site. I do have a smiley face flag that may find its way in to view.

I've always wanted a flag, they help a lot hen trying to find your camp site especially the first day or two. I've always been to lazy to make a pole though. I usually just find my camp by using neighbors flags and what not.

My avatar is ours. It's just an American flag that for some reason has a Native American on it... Got it from the Salvation Army just a few days before roo last year. We'll also be flying a "it's hockey night in Pittsburgh" flag and a few others ( we're using two poles this year). I'm thinking about making a glowing sign that says "camp hoodrat" (or something of the sort) to put at the top of the flagpole too, but that will only happen if I can find some spare time
So how do the poles work? Do you have it in pieces to transport, them put them together at Roo? And do you put them in the ground or tether them to something?
Good question. I have seen some "recipes" on here for building a flag pole out of PVC, which can be assembled on-site. Our pole is a collapsible version which we purchased. It goes from 4' to 20'. There are two options with our pole -- there is a ground spike if that will work (ground may be too hard), and there is an under-tire holder where I can use the car to hold it in place.

I was thinking about using some "For Sale" type signs to put in the ground with some arrows and what now near our camp to point us in the right direction. Do you think Roo Staff would remove them or just random people. This will be my 5th roo and have always meant to so something to help me always find my camp a little easier. What are your thoughts?

I was waterproofing our canopies yesterday and randomly decided to break out the spray paint. so one ez-up now says "camp hood rat". one of the sides says "thank you BASED GOD" too. and judging by the pens game last night im kinda doubtful that we'll be able to fly the hockey night flag.... but we might pick up a Pennsylvania flag to fly instead

Here is our flag from Coachella this year, but which will also be at Roo. I used this collapsable RV flag pole to hoist it and it worked great. I never had a problem finding our campsite, even while tired, drunk and musiced-out.
Anyone know anywhere on the web to get a custom flag printed? We want to do one up with some photographs printed on it, but thinking this may be a little too ambitious and probably expensive. Will probably end up going a much simpler route, but figure its worth a shot.

If money is a concern, I'd suggest calling around to local sign shops and print shops and seeing who can cut you the best rate. I do quite a bit of commercial printing as part of my job, and I've found that you can just have much fairer rates from local vendors. All you really need them to do is print a 3' x 5' piece of vinyl, doubled sided, they may even have scrap that fits the bill. You can install the flag-holes / grommets yourself.
A couple years ago, I was camped next to a group who had a giant flag pole with a windsock and a bunch of solar string lights wrapped around the top of it. At the time, I thought it was a genius idea, probably because it is. Finding my tent at night was ten times easier. I think I might copy that idea this year.
Camp flag going on 5 years now. The previous 4 years we have been using a unused tent pole and zip tying it to the side of our canopy but it hasn't fared well in heavy Roo winds, so thinking this year we will finally invest in purchasing one or at the very least constructing one from scratch. Just need to find a way to make it portable. Any tips?
Edit: The first year we did have a friend build one out of PVC but we had nothing to base it with so it wasn't very successful.
