With the new fountain design being leaked, I have started to analyze my feelings towards the fountain. I get all tense, weird and just stand around it people watching. I have yet to just get in it, I have no real reason for not getting in it no fear of water nor any reservations due to germs. I don't know if maybe some wooks are always around making me uneasy but I just haven't. With all that nonsense being said I have decided to just go a head and get in it finally, it is my 5th Roo so I figure it is about time. To help me understand my feelings and to get a grasp of how fellow roo'ers feel about it, I ask that you let us know your thoughts and feelings towards the fountain. Please share any experiences had at or near the fountain, good or bad.
I might pop in on a Thursday, but it gets a little gross for my taste near the end of the weekend.
ewww, you're not supposed to taste it!
The fountain is fun, but enter at your own risk. The wooksweat-to-water ratio will reach the point of no return by 3pm on Friday. You have been warned.
All up in it. I've swum in places that make that fountain look like the Perrier bottling plant.
This. It's water.
I mean, have you guys ever swam in a river?! Fish poop galore!
Right-o. And have you guys ever SMELLED the mud that sets up after a rain at Roo? Do you understand what that smell means about the amount of let's call it organic material in the soil, and why the grass there grows so green?
The farm is either a germaphobe's nightmare, or cure.
It would seem most people believe they recycle the water through the fountain? Is there any evidence of this? The first time I went I had this belief too but It just cannot be true. Can it?
I would highly doubt that they would recycle the water like that. if they did certainly no one should ever get into the fountain. I would think they would have to run water from a tap somewhere constantly for the four days of the festival, while running the runoff somewhere else off site through some kind of drainage system. If this was the case it would be OK to be in the fountain.

Thanks for ruining rivers for me.
hahaha. here's an article from five years ago about the high levels of bacteria in our local river (BTW, the signs are still posted because that mess is still swarming all up in the river): (also BTW: people still get in the river every day)
I tend to go by myself and never want to leave all of my belongings unattended to frolic in the fountain. In addition, fat man + wet shirt = worst wet tee shirt contest ever.

You think that a festival that promotes leaving no trace and is putting an ever increasing emphasis on sustainability and being green is not recycling water, but instead wasting fresh water on a bunch of dirty hippies and dr*gged up people...I'll err on the side of caution.

I can appreciate your skepticism. I just don't see how it could be possible. I plan on going for it this year. Eff it man it's bonnaroo.

There was a thread on the fountain water on reddit some months ago. Someone claiming to be a volunteer assigned to monitor the fountain says it is a double tank filtered system. Still they do shut it off a good bit late Saturday and on Sunday. I love getting in during the hot early-mid afternoon- but usually just Thursday and Friday.
I go in multiple times every year. They shut it down daily to clean it, and it definitley has multiple filters- the amount of dirt that drains in requires that. I still haven't tasted it, and wouldn't suggest it. Still- I'll be wading all weekend this year.
