I had to fire a lady today who took off 3 days of work this week for a blister. All she had to do was make it into the office, they had a setup so she could elevate her foot. Now she's unemployed and I don't get any commission.
Maybe the blister wasn't on her foot, ewwwwww!
Seriously though, people call in for that? What the heck?
Because it's fucking India and pretty high on the list of undesirable places I'd want to travel to. If it was anywhere in Europe I'd be stoked. Plus the home I just purchased would be empty of 3-6mo which would kinda suck.
You continue to be fucking appalling. I would go to India for 3-6 months (and get paid for it) in a heartbeat.
Different strokes for different folks. I don't find anything about India appealing. It's not like I'm working in an office with a view of the Taj Mahal.
I would never want to work in India either. I'd rather try and sweat out a few months of no fun in Dubai over India. Any place in Europe, Australia, South America, Russia, China, Nigeria, South Africa are all much better choices for me than India.

You guys are doing it all wrong.

India is definitely on my list of places to see before returning home. Not everyone loves their visit there, but I've never met anyone who regretted it.

For the entire floor of our building we have ONE single person bathroom. Twice this week people have banged on the door while I'm in there (different people). Am I weird for finding this rude? The door is locked, you can hear the fan that turns on when the light is on... Why knock furiously?
I'm pretty quick in there, so maybe there's some virus giving people in another suite severe and urgent diarrhea.

I think it's acceptable. I take my time when I'm in the bathroom, and if someone knocks it makes me stop dawdling and get out. You might be quick in there, but they don't know that when they knock. Also, if I'm about to have an assplosion, politeness goes out the window. Failure to respond to my pre-erupting colon will result in something much more rude and unpleasant than me banging on the bathroom door.

I wish we just had more bathrooms. Bladders are always pushed to their breaking point around here. I looked up the OSHA regulations once and was surprised at how few bathrooms are required in work environments. Way too few for comfort.

How many coworkers do you have that have direct access to that bathroom? If it's more than 15, you should file an anonymous complaint.
Standard operating procedure is Cal-OSHA will send a letter to your company, and then your company has a very short amount of time (14 days usually) to explain themselves and respond to the complaint.

I am glad we have a legit bathroom situation at work. We lease the building, and I think the bathrooms are configured based off the occupancy if every cubicle had a person in it. We use several for records, special equipment and other stuff like that, so our occupancy is well below what the building is designed for.

What is your criteria for ranking these, and how many of these places have you actually lived and worked in?
Ohhhh someone mad because Australia is at the bottom.
Haha, that wasn't even in my top five headscratchers of that post. I've just never seen someone rank work environments in India over Japan, or ones in Latin America & Africa over those in Western Europe - unless he's factoring in the cost of living?
But yes, I was still a bit confused, since wages here are high, PTO is ample (4 weeks minimum), and it has better workers' rights than most of those places.

Bathrooms usually seem to be the last consideration of the architect. The restaurant I used to work at could (and often did) hold up to about 150, including all staff. There were two toilets for the entire place. Not two bathrooms - two toilets (no urinals), in a place where people are drinking. And their awkward, prominent position still made half a dozen tables unseatable.

Maybe that's why bansheebeat put Australia last in working conditions, because they don't give you any toilets!
Seriously CKS, how many employee's does your building have vs how many restrooms are accessible? It sounds like a direct violation that could you legitimately anonymously report, forcing your employer to comply. Don't let them get away with it, Federal and Cal OSHA require at least one toilet for every 15 people.

Impossible to say. The space is leased out to research projects and their staffing fluctuates. I notice it's way worse in the summer when there are lots of students working in the building.
Also, there's a really creepy dingy other single person bathroom downstairs, so maybe that gets them in code. Nobody really uses it though, it's gross and not convenient.

I've only ever lived in Thailand, but I've been to Japan, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Hong Kong.
My criteria is basically which I think are coolest and would be the most fun to visit. Plus I'm big on culture shock. I would love to see Europe (and plan to soon), but my favorite part of travel is being way out of my comfort zone (which is why I've always chose Asia as a destination).
