At Cheesecake we recycle only cardboard- not bottles from the bar or the endless wasted paper products (ex. receipts and such). It actively drives me up the wall.
I wish we had recycling here. We throw away so much paper and recyclable goods, but there is NO recycling in the French Quarter at all. I think that residential might have it, but we don't. It does suck but NOLA is backwards when it comes to some things, and you end up getting used to it. I think that might actually be worse.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.
I feel like I'm responsible for the deaths of many trees. (We do recycle all our paper, so at least there's that.)
I feel you. We need so much back up documentation for all our audit files, everything needs to be bundled up and routed for wet signatures before being scanned in electronically. #planetfail
I have a whole room full of files that I'm in charge of. Almost none of needs to be a hard copy.
4 late nights in a row is finally catching up with me at work.
So. Freaking. Tired.
I'm in the opposite exhausting situation. This is my third day of coming in super early to try to get ahead before I go on vacation.
I just saw a guy open a can of corn, drain it, and walk out of the kitchen with his can of corn and a fork. Was he going to eat a can of cold corn for lunch?

Cream corn and a spoon would have me more concerned.
we are having an end of the year party next week. it is on a boat for almost 3 hours. i don't want to go, but realize this makes me seem anti-social etc. etc.
Finishing up this job next week and ended up having to work another (unexpected) overnight. The plus side is that I'll only end up working four days next week instead of five due the need to sleep after the overnight-- one less day of work before Bonnaroo!!!
On the down side, the new job wants me to start the Monday before Roo so I'll work Monday & Tuesday and then be gone until the following Wednesday. Weird but whatever...

At least you still get off for Roo... could be much worse.

I know. I didn't phrase it as optional. Glad that they didn't call my bluff!
I had a call bother me today... I got a call on a house fire from one of the 2 victims inside. They were trapped in a basement bedroom. I was on the phone with the female the whole time until she lost consciousness, and stayed on the phone even then until the firefighters were in the room. The male was on the phone with a co worker but kept disconnecting. I was on the phone for 20mins, equipment was on scene in probably 5 or less though. When I disconnected they still hadn't pulled them out. They pulled them out maybe 10minutes after I disconnected the call.
I wasn't too overly bothered by it till I saw the house on the news in the office. Both victims were transported to OSU Medical Hospital (they have a burn unit) in critical condition.

r]This right here is why I could never do your job. Keep doing what you do, girl! Your work saves lives and that's amazing.
Thank you. That's the bright side, I suppose. But it still sucks. The news updates all still say critical. I just want to know if they're ok or at the very least going to live. Not sure why this call bothered me so much more than other calls... It's been a few hours now and I feel a bit better. But I'm still just wanting an update.
Ugh that is so scary/sad/awful Will you be leaving this line of work when you move for grad school, Monie?
Oh, absolutely. I plan on getting the easiest job with the least amount of responsibility & liability I can possibly find, that still pays my bills. Crossing my fingers for a good serving job. Or if I can find a second shift job in my field since I can't do the 9-5 grind with school, which is doubtful.

Prepare yourself for an amazing amount of decompression. When I went to 9-5 office work after the rehab, there was a certain amount of time where I had to relearn how to work under non-pressure situations. This includes not having that hard focus on your breaks and meals being under a strict time frame, worrying about coverage as much as you did when you go on said breaks and meals, boredom at normal amounts of stress, etc.

I set an alarm when I go on break, and I never plan on eating a warm meal due to interruptions. I can't even remember what it's like to not have to do that. To be fair, as we all know, there are times where stress at my job is nonexistent. I'm going to miss being able to watch Netflix or do homework. But at the same time, I'm not going to miss the possible instant switch to adrenaline when shit goes cray out of nowhere. Like having someone trapped in a house fire cry and plead on the phone with you till she passes out when I'm just trying to decorate my phone chargers.
My point is that I'm going to miss some aspects of my job, but I'm very ready to be done. Calls like this make me very happy that I have about 5 working weeks till my last day.

Haha. There are many times where I have an internal dialogue something like "I wish something would happen. Maybe the rehab wasn't so bad. (thinks of random horrow story) Oh wait... nevermind."

You probably don't want to hear that I have an affinity for canned green beans- room temperature out of the can preferably.

I do a black beans and rice recipe which uses canned corn straight up. i will share, it is easy:
-take two cans of black beans, drain and rinse -put beans in pot with some veg stock to cover -add like a spoonful of chili powder and some braggs -heat em up -oh also cook some brown rice you should have already done that -open can of corn and drain and rinse, set to side in bowl -cut up some avocado -cut up some bell pepper -fuck up some commas -get some salsa or make some salsa (making salsa is easy and way better than any pre made stuff) -you could also have some green onion chopped up or cilantro if the salsa isn't enough for you. i like a little extra green onion.
-put cooked brown rice in bowl, put heated up black beans over rice -add all the other stuff, corn, avocado, bell peppers, salsa, etc -eat the beans. tasty right?
super easy, super healthy, super cheap, its a staple in our house.

That sounds pretty awesome. I think cold/room temperature corn out of the can is great as an ingredient in something like that. It's just the cold corn by itself did not sound like what I would want to have for lunch.

I mean, if you like it, you like it. It seemed like such a sad lunch to me at the time, but really, who am I to say? Maybe he just really enjoys having a plain can of room temperature corn for lunch. There are certainly worse things he could be eating.
I like a can of green beans as a quick healthy snack or small meal, I prefer them warm but room temperature works too. Drain, add a little salt, a lot of pepper, and some olive oil. Delicious.

Yum, I don't eat canned food very often but when I do it's usually room temperature . I'm not a fan of the microwave, and if I'm eating directly out of a can I'm probably too intoxicated to use a stove.
