Would anyone like to try to convince me why an HSA is better than traditional insurance (80/20)? My company is switching to all HSAs for next year and I'm little put off. Thinking I should shop around on the Healthcare Marketplace instead of going with this crap. I've never heard good things about HSAs but I'd like to hear if anyone has a good story, or can share some good points?
I have one. It is basically all we have, unless you want the steaming pile of shit they offer as an alternative. I was scared the first year, because you have a high deductible and you are basically on your own. But once you get some equity into it, you are self insured. And my work socks in a nice chunk of change as well. We can talk about it at the Sufjan Stevens show.
It depends on the specifics of the plan, but I am really happy after I changed from traditional insurance to high deductible hsa. Like Druid said, many employers kick in around half of the yearly deductible, so the monthly premium savings on high deductible plans can go towards the other half, if you are disciplined regarding savings. I usually came out a couple hundred ahead each year on out of pocket costs (compaired to high premium, no / low deductible plans), and more than half of that outlay - plus the employer kick in - is saved with interest if I don't need to make a claim.
It is the best deal for people in their twenties. If I could have saved and invested all the health care premiums I've paid over the years with no claim, I would have a second "401k" just for my Healthcare costs in retirement, which is like half of what you pay for when you get to the age you would draw it.

It's amazing to see an office of scientists and engineering avoid changing the toner on the printer then look at me like a magician when I do it like the easy task it is.
Hey, let's "let go" one of the bakers and then make the two remaining ones work five 12 hour shifts in a row.
Get time and a half after 40 hours?
Yeah, but it's not worth the physical toll. And I'm pretty sure it's illegal in NYS to schedule employees like that. I believe that, if you are scheduling employees 12 hour shifts, their schedule is supposed to be 3 days on and two off. Definitely something I need to check into.
Today in crazy things my boss says: (While having a discussion with one of my coworkers who just got diagnosed with cancer (totally treatable and she's going to be just fine, by the way. Since you guys have souls). Brace yourselves, it's a real doozy folks.)
"I think cancer is just nature's way of weeding out bad genetics. We shouldn't even bother trying to find a cure for it. By curing it, we're just watering down the gene pool."

I. CAN'T. EVEN.
By that logic, all medicine should just be eliminated. Sickness is just nature trying to tell us we're just not cut out for this. Jesus.
I mean, if as a species we're going for a theoretical pure utilitarian breeding program, she is right in a way. But in reality, that's just pure craziness. Virtually none of us would be here if we lived by that principle. Can you imagine where our society would be if that were the case?
Even if you truly believed that was the path forward in our world, how could you say that to someone who just got diagnosed?
I hope she remembers her principles when she gets diagnosed with something. "Well, I don't want to weaken the gene pool!"
Sucks your job's going this way, but hopefully you can spin your experience here into getting into a different bakery.
I'm giving a presentation to 40 idiots today about how to use Microsoft Outlook better. My Outlook has been frozen and hasn't loaded an email since I left work on Friday. This should be fun.
If it's just spinning it's more than likely your local .pst/.ost file has corrupted. The easy fix is to blow it away and allow it to rebuild from the server...as long as you maintain a server side copy of everything, most business do cause PC's die. Check with tech support if unsure.

I am grateful to have my job. Not just any job, but my job. I am glad that I am able to do work that keeps my mind active. I appreciate that I rarely have to work more than 40 hours per week. I love that I am off for all state holidays. I am so happy that I don't have to interact with the public. I am thrilled that I earn a reasonable salary with relatively decent benefits. I am glad that I get along with my supervisor and my co-workers. I like that I have a firm grasp on my job duties and am able to perform them well. I am happy that I don't have to keep track of my time in six minute (or any other) increments. All of these statements are true. I am grateful to have my job. Sometimes I just need to remind myself of that.

I am frequently left to man the office alone for an hour + now (which was previously a total nono). It's super annoying and I can't even go to the bathroom during those times, because someone can't be wandering around our office with nobody here, and if I lock the door for even a few minutes people will freak out.

My schedule changes for the week starting tomorrow. I normally work 5a-2p, but now I get a week of 8a-5p. They volunteered me to do something different, but no one knows what I am even supposed to be doing.

My co-workers are continuing to frustrate me. I have to wait until after their lunch hour is done before taking my own (for office coverage), and today they both closed their doors to have their lunch just before 1. I'm supposed to take my lunch at 1 (they're supposed to go at noon)!! So now I have to wait an hour past my lunch break. W.T.F.
What I hate most about this is that if/when I bring it up, I'm sure I'll be looked at as the pain in the ass/stickler.
I wish people would just realize when they're being an inconsiderate poopface and avoid all of this in the first place.
It also doesn't help that I'm super HANGRY anytime this happens.

People suck. In my old position I had to cover our receptionist's lunch one day a week and on those days, I usually took my lunch a little early just to make sure I was there and ready by 1:00.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I remember days like that. My boss at a previous job was very particular about somebody being in the office all the time regardless of us having a small amount of walk in traffic. At the current job, I had a similar situation where people started pushing back their lunch until it was encroaching on when I usually went. When I asked the boss, she said she didn't care if everyone was at lunch at once. If we had an emergency, the admins have our cell phone numbers. I'm still not totally comfortable with this idea.
In other news, I am consistently saddened by some of my co-workers and their complete and utter disregard and/or inability in relation to people skills. My job is way easier if we maintain positive relationships between our office and our clients. Popping off hostile emails and complaining about minor things is not helping me at all.

This is where I am luckily to work in a College Advancement office. We're shmoozing people-persons by nature. Everyone is upbeat, friendly, energetic and helpful.

As much as I love my job 99% of the time, this week is the worst and this is the reasons why:
1. Map is supposed to go to print today, head of art hates all the covers, hasn't responded to emails and we can't go to print without his approval. 2. Map wouldn't go to print anyway, because NONE of my sales people came in and I am waiting on artwork. 3. Map still needs locators placed, but I can't place them until I get a proof but production wants them yesterday but won't give me a proof. 4. All of production but 2 people are out, nothing is getting done. 5. I had to update the media kits for 2016, marketing person doesn't do them because I submitted revisions on an old media kit. 6. Marketing person removed ad sizes without me giving them permissions because she is a moron. 7. Marketing person wants all images and changes at same time, but they have access to images and won't pull the 80mg worth of images themselves. 8. I am essentially sitting here doing nothing because all of the above factors and stewing.
I'm dealing in the high limit pit today at the casino located at the front of boat. Lake Michigan is not cooperating and I'm getting seasick
What's the limit?
The minimums are between 50 and 100 per hand and the max 10,000-50,000 depending on what table. As opposed to 10 dollar minimum and 2500 max on all the other blackjack tables
Turned in my two weeks notice and im one step closer to realizing the goal of no longer working here. I'm not even mad that I'm here at work today knowing that i won't be here during our companies most stressful time of the year. Looking at everyone talking about it like
