So while I was out of town last week, our office assistant accepted an offer for another (much better) job within our organization. She told me privately because she was super excited about the promotion. I assumed my boss had told everyone while I was gone, and just neglected to tell me when I came back.
Nope, I found out this morning that my boss hasn't said one word about it to anyone.
The office assistant does tons of small tasks for all 5 of us EVERY DAY. This will greatly impact our workload. Why the heck wouldn't we be told?

This place is bananas.
Yeah. Why would you need that information? You're being ridiculous.
I have a coworker who is an obvious sexist. We've known it for a while, but it's really starting to irritate the fuck out of me. Today, he was just really rude and dismissive to our main supervisor while they were speaking in his cubicle (to be fair, he is rude and dismissive to everyone). I was mentioning it to my (female) partner about how I just cannot wrap my head around how he feels that is an appropriate way to address a coworker let alone your superior. She agreed that she felt it was over the line. She then shared with me how he had been complaining the other day about how his church's entire leadership was female and how horrible it was. He legit included the phrase "You know how you women are." What is wrong with this guy? To top it off, he legit thinks he is going to be the next lower supervisor then main supervisor as the two of them respectively retire over the next few years due to his "leadership skills".

My supervisor just said to me, "I was confused because I walked by your office and your light was on and it was after five." It was 5:02. What can I say? I generally don't feel the need to stay at work one minute later than absolutely necessary.

As background, my office used to have six people who were at a worker level. For the most part, our office does two types of work. I'll call it Task A and Task B. This time last year, three people did Task A and three did Task B. In the middle of last year, two people who did Task B left. The three of us doing Task A then started to take on some of Task B. We took the lighter stuff as we got the education and experience to handle increasingly more difficult parts of Task B. This left my sexist co-worker as the person responsible for the difficult parts of Task B.
Fast forward to now, he has begun to do some of Task A to ensure that he already has experience to avoid the issues we just had in case we lose someone again. He is a couple weeks in, and he is already proving to be one of those people that overcomplicates everything, adds more steps that are completely unnecessary then complains about how much time everything takes him. Maybe you should listen to the advice the experienced people are giving you. You know. Like we did when you were teaching us shit.
Is there anything worse than asking your supervisor for help on IM (you know they've read it) but they ignore it?
How do you expect me to learn...
I have a supervisor who will give you advice on a particular issue then will criticize you when he reviews the file for performing the actions that he advised you to do. I have no idea how many times I have been asked, "Why did you do this?" and responded with "Because you told me to. I argued that I should have done what you are telling me to do now, but you said your idea was the better course of action."

I'm having a much different type of work issue today. Today is my "Friday" because we do a flex schedule and I get every other Friday off. My director is in Vegas. My manager called in sick, but is possibly at Jazz Fest. In fact, a lot of people are missing today who are probably at Jazz Fest.
I've done NOTHING today. I'm three hours in and I've run out of shit to look at online. I'm just so utterly bored right now.

How can you run out of things to look at online in only 3 hours??

that does suck. But I can tell you what is worse. When your supervisor (in this case, my advisor) isn't familiar with the underlying method, and so they can't give you meaningful help even if they weren't ignoring you. you just kinda figure it out yourself and hope you aren't quacking up too bad. I'm in grad school, so a lot of what I do on a daily basis is "just figure it out." But when you are teaching the person "guiding" you, it's not fun.

I can always kill time looking at new posts or searching for whatever topic I have in mind. There are some really good reads in that subreddit. The mods are very strict, so the majority of the conversation is coming from professional historians nerding out about whatever people ask.

I scarfed down my lunch and cut my break short because I had a meeting scheduled right after lunch... Said person still hasn't come by. They were supposed to be here just about an hour ago. I hate that office etiquette dictates that I can't send an email like "Yoooooo, where are you?!"
One of my co-workers from another department is on one of his ultra conservative talking point rants. It's horrible.
Having to listen to people talk about politics at work is the worst.
It's worse when they have their head up their ass as far as this guy does. I have no problem with people with conservative ideologies as long as it is based in some kind of reality. This dude is operating on another planet.

Couldn't agree more. The worst is when you have two people arguing who don't know what they are talking about.

Been there. Many times. So frustrating.
I started this job 3 weeks ago, and I've found a lot of mistakes in how they were recording things in the past (before I arrived). Every time I bring this up to my boss, she tells me "It's not your fault, but this needs to be fixed." Uh, I know it's not my fault, I wasn't even working here when you made all these errors.
People had a conversation in my office yesterday about using the opposite sex's bathrooms because they're "allowed to do that now". SMH.
About 15 minutes in they asked me if I was offended...as if they couldn't tell by how quickly I put on my headphones.
These bathroom laws are getting ridiculous. Holy shit.
Theres a few people at my job that are pro-bathroom laws. I have reminded them quite a few times that we used to work with a trans person and they didn't seem to have a problem then.
Fun facts: China has started expanding their markets across the globe. This has led to an influx of Chinese made steel being used in construction projects on the west coast. Since there is zero quality control of their steel making, expect to see catastrophic failures in large construction projects in California soon. You can ship whatever substance you want into the United States. Just label it as baby powder, spices, etc. Customs can't do anything about it because their only means of discerning what a substance actually is is a taste test.
Wow! I must be really lucky. I absolutely love my job. My coworkers make the day fly by. They are brilliant, with great work ethics, and we sexually harass each other for laughs. Oh, and they are the best developers in the company. They make my job easy and they are helping me be better at what I do.

I have a coworker who literally finds at least one thing to get fired up about every day (usually a few things). 0% chill. I don't know how someone can function like that, even hearing about it is exhausting.

That's exactly what life with my admin is like. There's always something going on that has got him furious. It's been really weird for him to be gone for the last month on medical leave. The person covering for him never makes a peep about having to do our stuff.
