I saw the DJ Jazzy Jeff pop up show with Big Freedia at the Mushroom fountain, and Sir Pauls hour plus amazing soundcheck this year and both were a lot of fun and made me happy I had found them.

We stumbled past as it started and we were intrigued but confused. I was standing right next to big freedia without realizing until now. We probably would've stayed longer if we'd realized what was going on.
Thursday the Sir Paul soundcheck with like 100 people behind the rail to the main venue was definitely special.
I also heard jack Johnson did one after pretty lights ended Saturday morning.
Nothing can top the Macca soundcheck on Thursday night. It was about an hour and was a full on dress rehearsal, suit and everything. Jumbotron was on. From VIP camping, we could see it all and hear it loud and clear. He played mostly full songs that were a part of the set, but also Calico Skies.
Saturday morning around 7:30 or 8:00, Jack Johnson played about 6-7 soundcheck songs. Once again, VIP got it loud and clear.
Caught the Portugal the Man fountain set.
Lumineers played Ho Hey during the Ed Helms show. Didn't see it, though.
John Stamos can out during Saget. Didn't catch it, either.

Those sound checks were AWESOME. I thought that was the unsung positive of being in VIP. During the Paul rehearsal, people were getting on top of their cars and watching. It was cool.
I really liked the Jack Johnson sound check as well. It was obvious he was busting ass to try and get everyone together for the show that night. The fact that he put it all together in two days was insane. Apparently the equipment they used was rented too, so they weren't even familiar with the instruments.
I watched his actual set from my campsite. Same thing with Petty; we took the rest of our stuff down while he played in the rain.
I got super hungry at ALO and had to leave to stop by the Amish Baking Company. I ended up getting sidetracked and walking up to the Polyphonic Spree show literally right as they began their first song. It was a super fun time. They got the whole crowd jumping when they closed with "Smells Like Teen Spirit" Lithium
When was the Polyphonic show? I heard rumours it was at 2...so i stopped by the fountain for about 20 minutes and nothing was going on.
Easily the best "secret show" for me, was when i popped around a corner and found PHJB playing on a little makeshift stage. They then lead a parade around the grounds, into the main stage area, and up front for macca.

2am on Thursday night after Capital Cities played in the music lounge. They finished with 'Light and Day' and 'Lithium' which got the show an automatic spot on my top 10.
How about the bounce show on the tiny stage by the fountain after the soul superjam saturday? Fat naked dude raging in the fountain not giving any fucks:

Wow, that's totally what I meant. Lithium, not Smells like Teen Spirit. Clearly I need to get some rest now after this weekend.

the mushroom fountain stage was the best addition this year. the polyphonic spree's set was amazing, and the bounce show saturday night was ridiculous!!! it was katey red, though, not big freedia, according to this article: www.nola.com/music/index.ssf/2013/06/five_ways_new_orleans_represen.html did they have anything going on there friday? i hope they keep the stage and keep it just like it is: unannounced and low-tech.
The mushroom fountain stage was added in 12. I was standing there when all of a sudden guys in space suits were playing some sweet music - it was art vs science.
Were these pop up shows between late nights at this tent?
Who played the surprise 7-730 set on Sunday evening?
At the Sonic Stage? Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeroes. Acoustic set & they took requests & played a few fun covers.
I thought so. I assumed that's what it was when I saw Edward Sharpe lead a parade away from the Which Stage while waiting for David Byrne. Anybody follow the parade?

i know they've done special pop-up shows before, but this was a stage with a boombox painted backdrop that was there the whole weekend and had a soundboard off to the side/behind it that was covered up with a tarp when it wasn't used. am i that blind? was there a weekend-long stage there last year and i missed it?
the polyphonic spree show was on thursday night after the vaccines. we came out of the tent after the soul superjam on saturday and the katey red show was already started and finished up a bit after bustle in your hedgerow started. it sounds like portugal the man was during the lumineers on saturday, which wouldn't have been too late at night.

It was the spot where the parade after Alabama Shakes led to Carrie the Dancing Dog last year. I think Art .vs. Science played it too.

god, thanks for the vid itm, that triggered it. brain's a bit fried at this point, but i do remember seeing that stage last year- i guess it didn't make much of an impression b/c i didn't see any performances on it.
