I have to say, I'm kinda with whoever was disappointed with Paul on the previous page (can't be bothered to go back and look, sorry). Allow me to explain. That video in the beginning was kind of ridiculous, I felt like I was at some megachurch waiting for Benny Hinn to walk out and start saving souls with his suit jacket. And he just seemed like he was pandering for applause the whole time... I mean the music was alright but every time he finished a song it seemed like he took every possible opportunity to remind the crowd that yes, he was a Beatle, and yes, you should worship the very ground he walks upon, etc. It was kind of a shock after seeing so many humble and appreciative musicians. Not that the show was bad... just oddly uncomfortable. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.
I got the complete opposite from him. I thought he was humble and I think his banter and talking to the crowd showed that. He thanked the crowd, seemed surprised with the sheer size of it, and seemed like a class act all the way through. Not being humble for someone of his magnitude would have been NOT bantering with the crowd and not being personable at all which he wasnt.
I only saw one bad show in the 20+ I saw and that was Alt-J. They were boring and far too sleepy. They also need a lesson in how to construct a setlist properly
I'm going to have to disagree 200% on this... I was up front and they killed it. When the whole tent sang Matilda it gave me chills. Their setlist was basically their album with buffalo and another song mixed in. I absolutely dug the whole thing.

Fair enough. There were plenty of sets I enjoyed this weekend that others didn't. And the opposite. I just know at no point was i thinking "god I hope he stops talking and plays something". I loved every moment

* Araabmuzik - took them 15 minutes to hook up a laptop, and then he looked like he didn't even want to be there.
* Ariel Pink — his attitude ruined the show for me, as he acts like he's a brilliant musician instead of letting his music do the talking for him.
* Cat Power - She looked completely uncomfortable and out of touch with reality. "My Oklahoma sticker fell off. Hi America!" Just odd... she was fidgety, shaky. Was almost painful to watch.
* Dirty Projectors — people rave about them, but it's just not my thing. I gave them a solid chance for a few songs and then had to bail out of boredom.
* R. Kelly - that intro was a clusterquack. 60 seconds of singing then we have to wait for two minutes while the crane lowers him? He should have just kept singing... The lighting was awful and you couldn't see a thing.
* James McCartney — clearly he didn't get his dad's amiable personality.
* Swans — Not my thing. Monotonous and boring.
* Divine Fits — Again, just not my thing. Bailed after 1.5 songs. I felt it was unoriginal.

Really surprised to see so many people mention Wilco. I was on the far left against the wall waiting for Paul and it sounded fantastic. I couldn't see a thing, but there were plenty of fantastic moments. California Stars, Via Chicago, Impossible Germany, and a handful of great tunes from The Whole Love (Art of Almost was devastatingly good). That's a damn shame the sound was so low and very odd that it seemed alright to me when I wasn't even in front of the speakers.
Kind of not surprised to see people mention Wu Tang Clan, but they did sound awesome at Coachella.
Only dissapointing/bad set I saw all weekend were The Stepkids. Was looking forward to them, but the mix was bad, three people was not enough for how rich their sound is, and they attempted to jam out every song and did so quite poorly (on the contrary, Tom Petty can jam like a motherQuacker)
That being said, that was the only set I saw the entire weekend that wasn't good-to-mind-blowing. And being at The Stepkids allowed me to be under a tent when that storm came.

About Japandroids, I agree with everyone on the mixing problems. The guitars weren't as big sounding as they should have been. But I disagree about the crowd, it was really quacking into some Japandroids.
I completely agree with your assessment on this one. I don't know much of their music but really enjoyed their Coachella webcast performance a lot more. Same can be said for Wu-Tang Clan. I'd say they were my biggest disappointment because they were the one I was most looking forward to which underwhelmed me. Ariel Pink I didn't care much for though I had pretty low expectations for them in the first place but not playing Round and Round sealed the deal for me. On the other hand I was really impressed with Swans even though I didn't recognize the songs they played as being from The Seer (the only album I know at all). Solange seemed too short and just kinda meh anyhow but that wasn't one I was expected to get super into anyhow. I didn't stay to the end of Animal Collective as I was pretty much spent by that point so I'm putting that one on me. Otherwise I thought the remaining 10-15 shows I saw all were great including Nas & Kendrick Lamar mentioned on the previous page.

Animal Collective - I had heard good things about them and figured they'd play a long set for the night cap, but I just couldn't get in to the show. To me, they just sound like noise with little to no cohesion. meh.
Wu Tang - same complaints as many others...
Empire of the Sun - I loved the part of the show that I saw, but since they came on so late, we left after 20 mins to go see someone else on our schedule. Wish i could have seen more.
Tame Impala and other performances on The Other Stage - sound quality outside the tent was poor. Would like to see some speakers put up outside the tent! I'm guessing they don't do this to avoid sound pollution to other stages.
Kendrick Lamar - In his defense, I'm not a big rap fan and went to this show reluctantly. He was definitely intent on finding out which half of the crowd was louder, so I'll thank him for that. Other than that, not impressed.

I thought Action Bronson was horrible. All he did was walk around in the crowd for most of his set and when he was on stage ask people to throw him some weed.
It could have been where I was standing but Milo Greene was kind of meh. It wasn't what I was expecting, and they were one of my most anticipated shows. I left early on but walked by during the last part of Silent Way and it was really pretty. So it probably where I was standing. And Kendrick Lamar, I showed up right before Don't Kill My Vibe and the crowd in the middle back ish was just not feeling it. Needless to say, it killed my vibe. But every other show I saw was absolutely fantastic!
Interesting. I was pretty happy with the 37 songs that he played and I loved the banter. Part of the reason I loved the show so much was because Paul seemed so cool. But if you were looking for non stop songs, I could see why it would get frustrating.
I don't need all non-stop songs, cause I did like some of the banter, but it felt like every, single, song for 37 songs.
You know me - huge Paul fan - and I thought the show was magical. BUT - I still concede your point. I will say the last 90 were tighter then the first 90 and the banter came down a little bit. Even Mrs. G dared to say - "don't take this the wrong way, dear, because I like the stories, but does he know we already know he knew Jimi and George and Eric? I mean he's the last person on Earth that needs to impress me."
The volume was down too low for Wilco. I still enjoyed it, though. Kendrick Lamar was terrible. I napped through Local Natives, Passion Pit, and Dirty Projectors.
For me, it was Gov't Mule. There was not enought fire in that set for me. And this might be me just getting my hopes up, but it was the first time I saw Gov't Mule at bonnaroo when they didn't have another artist jam with them on stage.

This is the first message board I've ever been on, the only reason I joined is because I love Bonnaroo and wanted to read and talk about it all year long.
weird al didn't play The Saga Begins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that was a huge disappointment for me and he could've and should've left out perform this way instead. other than that i had a great time at his set. until the end when i was like hey now wtf
also: they REALLY need better sound at which. and how hard would it be the raise the tent stage or slope the tents in a little to improve sightlines. i'm tall so i can usually see pretty awesome, but my short friends are always like "duuuuude i can't seeee anything lets gooooo" and killin my vibe and shiz.
Araabmuzik was awful. What, were his buttons broken?
He started late, the music was all out of sync, he talked like he'd just thrown down the most incredible performance in the history of music festivals at great personal sacrifice, and--most alarmingly--a drunken Canadian spilled beer on my wife.

I was underwhelmed with the lumineers, surprised I didnt see them mentioned. Also agree with Wilco. Big fan of theirs and I could hear everything fine I just wasnt thrilled with their set.

If Zack Hill had been there for Death Grips, that set would have been amazing. Instead, it was just kinda meh. I expected that though after I found out they were gonna have no drummer at all on their set.

Nas - What's everyone's disappointment here? Genuinely interested about what people weren't really feeling.
Nas was great. Anyone who saw both Nas and Kendrick on that same stage and thought Kendrick was way better is cuh-razy. Kendrick had great moments, but Nas was the more solid overall show.
But then I can be old school when it comes to hip hop and the whole DJ cutting in and out at the wrong times (like a half second off sometimes) while trying to get the crowd to sing half the song at Kendrick just got old for me.
