They just said in the Reddit AMA that they were planning a surprise Kanye show last year. Imagine that after McCartney Kanye showed up?
I have an interesting story about this.
Last year after R. Kelly, I was about to head over to the Superjam. As everyone was leaving the Which Stage, I talked to a man working security and asked him about how this years festival was going. He told me it was good and nothing crazy, but he then told me "Had Kanye showed up tonight, it probably would have been the craziest thing to happen since he started working." I laughed and thought he was kidding, but he told me that there were talks to have him make an appearance at Bonnaroo, but something came up. It turns out that Kim Kardashian had her child on June 15th and one can suspect that Kanye went to be with her when she went into labor. I never had any reason to believe that this man would lie to a complete stranger about this, but I still had my doubts. I can honestly say that I was too nervous to ever share that story on here because I thought no one would ever believe me. Incredible to learn that this could have actually happened.

I just hope they have the foresight to schedule something jam-bandy in Centeroo at the same time as Kanye. I've seen posts on FB and elsewhere from some of the people wanting to articulate their "displeasure" with his booking, and I think that would pull them away from What, creating a much more pleasant experience for the people, like myself, who want to see his show. I can safely say I have an agreeable personality on here, but in real life I am an irascible type who wouldn't react well to someone ruining my concert experience.
With all due respect, am I the only one offended by this comparison between Kanye and Ali? Ali seems to me to have been a true force of nature. He was a boxing icon, a icon for social justice and the civil rights movement, and an advocate for political change. He received the presidential medal of freedom.
Kanye has a long, long way to go before he can be honestly compared with Muhammed Ali.

Kanye is a pop culture icon, an advocate for social change, and an icon for social concepts, I'd say it's a fair comparison

With all due respect, to quote Jules Winnfield "it ain't the same f--king ballpark, it ain't the same league, it ain't even the same f--king sport!"
With that I will exit this debate. I choose not to argue with someone who would attempt to equate Kanye West in 2014 with Muhammed Ali in 2014.

You removed all of the context of that post so it's silly for you to be offended by something that wasn't actually said.

Nuthin but love RJ. Agree to disagree this time.
You're battling a straw man, that RJ for some reason was defending.
The person didn't state that Kanye is Ali's equal. The person stated that in terms of Kanye's style, he's comparable to Ali, which is accurate. Both Kanye and Ali were great at what they do. They both would also not hesitate to tell you that fact. White/Depp are both more reserved, harder-to-read talents.
I love it when people compare Kanye to Jimi Hendrix, because Kanye is clearly better.
This needs to stop.
Kanye is my favorite modern musician. I think he is innovative and every bit the musical genius he makes himself out to be.
That being said, you can't compare the two like that. You can say both were tremendous artists for their time, both altered the course of music by merely existing, but I can't in good conscience say one is greater than the other. People kind of gloss over Hendrix, but at the time it was unlike anything we see in presently. Imagine Bieber Fever only fueled by burning guitars, LSD, a sexual revolution and a god-given talent that few have matched and few ever will match. Hendrix burned out quickly, which makes this even harder to discuss, because we didn't get to see if Hendrix grew as an artist, took us places we never could imagine, or if he would've ended up burning out and being a cautionary tale. The fact is, he was one of the most gifted musicians ever, put together one of the most influential rock albums of all-time while he was just 23 years old and changed the course of popular and rock music forever.
I love me some Ye, but I don't step on the heads of the forefathers of modern music to celebrate him.

It blows my mind thinking about Hendrix being that young and talented. 23 doing the things he was? I was 23 last year and had just figured out how to put air in my tire. So thanks Jimi for making me realize I'm a failure. He also looked a lot older than he was so that makes it harder to believe.
I'm sorry, my brain see things like your post and has a seizure and needs to say something.
I don't over-value the classic stuff simply because it's classic, but Hendrix is classic + cultural impact + talent on a level few have hit. I actually think the two guys are similar in that they were reinventing existing genres on the fly.

Your entire second paragraph is absolutely correct.
Mostly im just hungover and have a keyboard at my disposal.
Anytime I stop and think about the things these people accomplished at such a young age it blows my mind. When the Beatles first came to America they were: John Lennon: 23 Paul McCartney: 21 George Harrison: 21 Ringo Starr: 23
If it was me when I was 21 I would be owing child support to about 200 women. At least.

Speaking of young, will Lorde be a flash in the pan or have a long career? Im actually thinking she does okay in the long run. She seems unnaturally sensible for 17. 17!

I think Lorde is here to stay. I'll be a lifelong fan ever since she called David Guetta gross when he reached out to her wanting to collaborate.
