I'm not against listening to his music, I suppose. Rap/hip-hop isn't at the top of my genre list anyway, so it's been pretty easy to just not seek out his music. I'm willing to give it a try, as long as I can still think he's a jerkstore
With that said, where should I start?
I agree with what everyone else has pretty much said as far as starting with College Dropout. My little brother got me to listen to it when it first came out and at the time I thought I was just too cool for the current hip-hop but that album changed my mind. Ever since then I've been an unapologetic Kanye fan.
In keeping with the thread, I would love for Kanye to headline. I think it would be a huge draw because even if some people are still saying "f*** Kanye" and complaining about his last Roo performance there are plenty of people who would buy a ticket just to see him and then those who would be there just to see what unfolds.
Bonnaroo will never book Kanye again. Plain and simple.
Yeah, he's a good artist and I do listen to his music, but he's an a**hole. He simply does not have the right attitude of a perfoemer that Bonnaroo would book.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Kanye returns at some point. I'm pretty certain the big Capp Dogg caught his Coachella performance in 2011 and spoke favorably of his performance. That said I'm still of the "fuck Kanye" posse.

I was/am one of the people who half want to see the powder keg that will happen if Kanye headlines. but I had zero interest in Yeezus, and am continually amused with "fuck kanye"'s even though it's completely unnecessary.
Summarizing.. fuck it, Kanye 2014 - don't we all like a good tire fire?
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know you realize that life goes fast - It's hard to make the good things last-you realize the sun doesn't go down - It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

I love when people so emphatically state this. What is it that gives you the confidence to say something so absolute? Is it the fact that Bonnaroo has never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever contracted an *sshole musician before or after Kanye was booked in 2008? Is it the fact Kanye hates money? Oh! It's probably the fact that some half-assed theory about loyalty to the Grateful Dead or some sh*t, right?
Kanye headlines festivals, Bonnaroo is a music festival, Bonnaroo can afford Kanye, Kanye sells tickets, everyone goes home to swim in their swimming pools of money.

Fucking exactly. Whatever happened in 2008, happened fucking 6 years ago. No doubt in my mind AC/Superfly would book the shit outta Kanye.
Maybe Kim will walk around the fest with her big booty.
Hey, know what's crazy? Kanye's headlined multiple other major American festivals since that 2008 mishap.
If Kanye West headlined Bonnaroo, having just seen him headline Governors Ball, the only thing "wasted" would be your time if you skipped it for a f*cking sandwich.
He HEADLINED Coachella, which at this point probably carries a higher social standing and relevance than headlining Bonnaroo.
I wish I could light your post on fire and piss on its ashes while humming Blood on the Leaves to myself.
Let me defend myself. yes, Kanye headlined Governors Ball, but headlining governors ball =/= headlining roo. By that same logic Guns n Roses could also headline roo, which i see as highly unlikely, unless the whole band gets back together, Slash included. This of course is about as likely as Daft Punk joining the blue collar comedy group (Larry the cable guy, Jeff Foxworthy, etc.). Also, yeah he headlined Coach, but they also had the stone roses as a headliner this year, i just feel that bonnaroo is the stronger the festival in terms of names. Personally , I hate Kanye with a passion, and perhaps that could blur my judgement a bit, however considering his history with the fest, i doubt that ac/superfly would consider him a possibility. Also why the hostility to skipping Kanye for rest/food/good spot for late night? I recall many on this board saying they would do the same this year for Mumford without being crucified.
Your point about Gov. Ball and Roo is irrelevant, especially considering the fact I used his coachella headlining as the barometer of his appeal, not GB. Your anti-Kanye bias is bleeding through every post, there really isn't any need for you to mention it.
No hostility, but every time some dope cries foul about Kanye's '08 show and acts like he isn't headliner material the stupidity of those comments literally hurts my brain.

I still cry foul over 08. Lot of prep for the long night, lot of patience - and lot of unapologetic douchery afterwards (but that was to be expected from Kanye, even then). I agree on your point that Coachella and Governer's Ball are clearly different festivals with different aims - and different populations. Also a whole different marketing scheme to sell tickets - the demographic of the major festivals is pretty attuned to it's brand and consumer loyalty (and yes. esp. Bonnaroo).
With that, I am just pointing out that there are two different aspects to keep in mind: 1. If you don't think AC isn't hesitant about f'ng up again - then you are crazy. But if you think they don't see the value in a dedicated HL spot and a top billing - you are also crazy. 6 or 7 years seems like the time where you take the risk, esp. during the height of his career. 2. Kanye isn't the most forgiving man - he loves money - but he also has a never-ending propensity to need every element of the show to be his way. If everything about that performance or setup isn't the way he wants - there will be issues. I've heard at least 3 reports from people who saw him early (i.e. College Dropout era) and even then he would stop songs he didn't think sounded right.
Then again. Bed of money.
funkybuttlovin lol. what are the chances Kim could even stand the heat on the farm. The sweat vs make-up factor makes this implausible
I think a vast majority of the "Quack Kanye" crowd are either over it, or don't even attend Bonnaroo any more because it "sold out, man". It would be really nice to have him there. I hope AC would give him another chance.

That post is almost 5 months old, but let me speak. I don't dispute that Kanye could headline, he could, he headlined Coachella after all. A lot of the hostility from my posts over the summer came from the double standard I've seen, where many bands and artists can be freely ridiculed or criticized, but Kanye is for some reason immune to it. No one is above criticism. Of course I don't like the guy, and my mistake was making comments about his public persona, instead of his music. I don't like his music, I've listened to some of it, and just don't like it. I'm not much of a hip-hop fan really. It wouldn't bother me that much if he headlined, I know many would be at his set and enjoy it. For me though it would allow me to make rail for any late night set of my choice, which would be awesome.
No hostility intended, I just don't like his music.

Wow, holy sh*t my phone must have had a stroke or something. I got a notification and then it brought me to your post and I just responded to it without seeing the date. Sorry, didn't mean to drag something up that is months old.

F*uck Kanye west ide rather see carrot top on the main stage before him he's a racist stuck up b*itch and shouldn't be allowed on the beautiful grounds of the Roo those type of people are what we true Roo people hate so f*uck all y'all's hate comments
I was just about to test out that mute function for the first time but figure I'd be cheating myself out of 1/2 the conversation when the above posters are abruptly burned into the ground. I mean really, I feel pretty confident a person like this, who comes into a thread dedicated to an artist, just to talk trash that artist, is not going to have much I'm really ever going to want to read through, besides the argument that follows. If you're going to be a troll, at lease come in with some fresh, clever material, But it is pretty slow around here, and we all need some entertainment. Let the flaming begin!
I'm only basing this on the pictures I've seen so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the main reason Kanye wouldn't headline this year the size of his stage production? Could they really get it all set up in an hour? Unless his attitude has changed, I doubt he'd do a scaled down show. Even looking past everything else, let's not forget the beginning of the 08 drama started when Kanye refused to play Which because he wouldn't be able to bring the entire Glow In The Dark setup.
